Every Saturday, at a church in Gothenburg, Sweden, hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds gather. They speak more than 20 languages. As they prepare their instruments, a smiling man walks in. He greets everyone, steps onto the stage, and raises his baton (指挥棒). Music fills the room.
This is a music group called the Hope Orchestra, organized by John Smith. Since 2016, his free program has given homeless people from other countries, young people in need, and native Swedes the chance to learn an instrument, connect with others, and enrich their lives.
Smith grew up in a poor family in Venezuela. To help his family make ends meet, he started selling ice cream when he was in primary school. Across the street was a program called Music for All, which provides free classical music training to children who have no chance to learn it. At 10, Smith joined the group. “I fell in love with music from my first class,” he said. “For me, playing the violin is like feeling electricity.”
He also appreciated the group’s inclusive philosophy. “It didn’t matter whether I was the boy selling ice cream in front of the school or the son or daughter of the mayor,” he said. Finally, Smith worked for Music for All to help spread the group’s innovative (创新的) teaching methods worldwide. Even near the Arctic Circle, he started Greenland’s first youth orchestra.
It was this work that led him to first visit Sweden in 2015. In Stockholm, he was shocked to see many helpless people arriving in the country. The following year, he moved to Gothenburg where he offered a music group for those people. He started with 13 students. Most of them had no background in music, but he lent them instruments and began teaching them. He named the group the Hope Orchestra to inspire them.
“For me, that’s what a music education is about,” said Smith. “It’s about giving you new opportunities to learn about life, about challenges, about dreaming, and about connecting you to your soul.”
4.What do we know about the Hope Orchestra
A.It has been warmly received. B.It attracts any music lover.

C.Music for All asked him to do that. D.People were eager to learn music.
7.What can be the best title for the text

A psychological concept called “false consensus effect” helps explain why kind people sometimes harm the environment. In psychology, the false consensus effect is a cognitive bias (偏见) where a person tends to overestimate how much other people agree with him or her. There is a tendency for people to assume that their own improper habits or acts are “normal”. And most importantly, they believe others think the same way that they do. Put simply, if you’re doing something (even if you secretly know you probably shouldn’t), you’re more likely to think plenty of other people do it too.
This bias allows people to justify socially unacceptable or illegal behaviors. Researchers have observed the false consensus effect in drug use and illegal hunting. More recently, conservationists are beginning to reveal how this effect contributes to environmental damage. In Australia, people who admitted poaching, a way of fishing in no-take zones, thought it was much more common in society than it really was. They also believed others viewed it as socially acceptable. However, in reality, more than 90% of fishers held the opposite view.
Just as concepts from psychology can help explain some forms of environmental damage, so can they help address it. For example, research shows people are more likely to litter in areas where there’s already a lot of trash scattered around, so making sure the ground around a bin is clean may help.
Factual information on how other people think and behave can be very powerful. Electricity companies have substantially reduced household energy use simply by showing people how their electricity use compares to that of their neighbors. Encouragingly, stimulating people’s natural desire for status has also been successful in getting people to publicly buy eco-friendly products.
8.Which example best illustrates “false consensus effect”
A.A driver thinks illegal parking is common.
B.A blogger assumes many people dislike his posts.
C.A student figures most people spend long hours online.
D.A smoker believes people generally approve of smoking.
9.What was most Australian fishers’ attitude to poaching
A.Unacceptable. B.Widespread. C.Controversial. D.Complex.
10.How have electricity companies reduced energy consumption
A.By comparing power consumption. C. By offering financial rewards.
B.By doing round-the-clock monitoring. D.By promoting renewable energy.
11.What is the primary purpose of this article
A.To encourage people to reduce energy consumption.
B.To link a psychological concept to environmental issues.
C.To emphasize the importance of environmental protection.
D.To describe different types of environmentally harmful behaviors.

They say to find out what you really want, go back to when you were a child.
When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a painter, but I was never great at it. I was discouraged, because in art classes my paintings were never the most beautiful. In the third grade, we were given a project to create a portrait. I used the skills and tips we were all taught in class. After we were done, we presented our portraits. We stood in front of the class and explained our technique. I remember looking at other portraits thinking,“We were given the same skills, why do theirs look so professional and mine looks so amateur ”
But I still really enjoyed painting because it’s a forgiving art. If I don’t like what I’ve put on paper, I can paint over it. I can mix colors and make new ones. Also, I can release some creative juices, use what has inspired me and allow that to pour out of me in a way I may not have imagined.
But because I have always wanted to paint beautiful pictures, I just decided to change what beauty looked like. I changed what beauty meant to me.
Throughout school, they taught us about Picasso, van Gogh and da Vinci, and I never saw myself or my art in their works. These artists were always painting whatever was in front of them and around them. But that’s not what I saw around me.
Then I learned about Basquiat, who inspired me to paint abstract pictures. I paint when I’m moved, and I am often moved by what’s natural:emotions, nature, and other forms of art. I am also very moved by pain. When there is pain in the world or in my heart, it can be unbearable. I had a conversation with an activist in St.Louis named Spook, and I explained to her this feeling and she told me,“Pain is energy. You have to learn how to channel that energy into something productive.”So sometimes I channel that pain into art, into a painting.
Even if the picture doesn’t turn out aesthetically (美学地) pleasing by society’s standards, it’s still beautiful that I was able to create something. My paintings may not be a Basquiat, but they’re mine, so I love them anyway.
37.What did the author find after the portrait presentation
38.What factors motivated the author to keep his passion for arts
39.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
The author has always wanted to paint beautiful pictures, so he tried to meet society’s standards.
40.Besides painting, what other art form would you use to express beauty And explain why.(In about 40 words)

My sister, Angie, locked herself in the tree house Dad made for her. I jumped, grabbed the lowest branch of the maple tree, and pulled myself up. “Here I go again,” I thought “Be careful, Matt,” Mom said from the base of the tree. “Don’t fall.” I reached for the next branch. It wasn’t a hard climb if Angie hadn’t pulled the ladder into the tree house.
I beat on the door and asked her to open up. Angie refused. Sometimes I wondered why I bothered. I crawled through the window opening Dad had cut in the wall. Angie sat in one corner. “Mom says you’ve been here long enough. You have to come down.” I said. Angie shook her head, saying she was living in this tree forever and never going to school again. I asked her what happened at school. Angie’s eyes were filled with tears, and she covered her face with her hands. “I told a kid at school we were getting a new baby brother. He asked, ‘What color Green ’” I laughed. That was actually funny.
“This is serious!” Angie cried. “He said the baby won’t really be my brother, the same way you aren’t. He said our family isn’t a real family. We’re like a circus. All different colors-black and yellow and white.”
“Well, he’s wrong,” I said. “We’re a real family. You and I and the baby are adopted. So what ” Angie looked up, still believing that kid at school more than she believed me. I could tell. I sat down opposite her on the tree-house floor, a floor full of knotholes (节孔) and gaps. I began to convince her by laying out the facts. “Who taught you to ride a bike, to skate, and to e-mail Grandma ” After a long pause, Angie finally admitted that it was I. “Yes, I did all that because I’m your brother. It’s what brothers do.” I added.

Then I continued with more facts. “And who helped Mom bake and decorate that excellent cake for my last birthday ” I asked. Angie whispered that it was she because she was my sister. “And who stayed up late taking care of you every time you fell ill ” Angie pursed her lips and replied it was Mom. “And who built this tree house because you wanted one so badly, even after he’d hit his thumb with the hammer ” Angie giggled. “It’s a good thing that Daddy doesn’t build tree houses for a job.” I knew what she meant. The tree-house floor was full of gaps. Still, it was a great tree house built with love, just like our family. To my delight, I convinced her that our family was real because we loved each other.
Angie and I were talking when Mom called, “Hey, guys, are you coming down to meet your little brother ” Hearing this, we stopped our conversation and let down the ladder. When we got down, a cute baby sleeping peacefully in my mother’s arms appealed to us at once. I approached quietly and cautiously touched his soft hair. He meant a treasure to us, bringing new blood to our family. Angie, too, came and stared at the baby with great amazement, now believing he was part of our family. At this moment, she understood the meaning of family lies in the sympathy, help and love. Despite our skin, we will bravely overcome the difficulties we confront with together, which is what the real family is about.

English is an excellent language to learn, whether it’s for business, travel or personal reasons. Here are some important ways to improve your spoken English.
When you have time to speak, just try your best to practice. Don’t wait until you “feel more comfortable” speaking in English, so start speaking English today. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your language skills improve. Find a native English speaker who is willing to spend some time speaking English with you—you may be able to offer them a language exchange, where they spend 30 minutes speaking English with you and you spend 30 minutes speaking your native language with them.
Even if you have a good knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary, native English speakers may find it’s very difficult to understand if you don’t work on your pronunciation. Correct , clear pronunciation is necessary if you really want to improve your English. Listen closely to how native English speakers pronounce certain words and sounds and do your best to copy them.
The wider your vocabulary and the more English phrases you learn, the easier speaking English will become. Once you have learned a new word or phrase, you should make an effort to use it in a sentence—this is the best way to keep it in mind. You should also start a notebook of phrases that English speakers use all the time.
Another great way to add some more English conversation into your weekly practice is to sign up for a class of discussion group. Attending an English class is a great way to pay attention to some of the more formal aspects of speaking English. A class will teach you the correct way of speaking. Attending a discussion group is a more informal and relaxed way of learning English, where the emphasis(重点) is more on communication and relationship building than on speaking “correct” English.
4.What is the best title of the text

D.How to learn English grammar clearly
5.The writer suggested people start practicing when________.

6.What is the best way to improve the pronunciation
A.Just remember the grammar.
B.Make sure how words are read and copy them.
C.Try the best to remember the spelling of the words.
D.Speak English when you “feel more comfortable”.
7.We can learn from the passage that_________.
A.it’s not necessary to find a native English speaker with whom you can practice speaking English
B.native English speakers can understand you easily if you have a good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary
C.an English party is a good place where you can learn the correct way of speaking
D.using a new word or phrase in a sentence is the best way to memorize it
Reading Art:Art for Book Loversis a celebration of an everyday object—the book, represented here in almost three hundred artworks from museums around the world. The image of the reader appears throughout history, in art made long before books as we now know them came into being. In artists’ representations of books and reading, we see moments of shared humanity that go beyond culture and time.
In this “book of books,” artworks are selected and arranged in a way that emphasizes these connections between different eras and cultures. We see scenes of children learning to read at home or at school, with the book as a focus for relations between the generations.Adults are portrayed (描绘) alone in many settings and poses—absorbed in a volume, deep in thought or lost in a moment of leisure. These scenes may have been painted hundreds of years ago, but they record moments we can allrelate to.
Books themselves may be used symbolically in paintings to demonstrate the intellect (才智), wealth or faith of the subject. Before the wide use of the printing press, books were treasured objects and could be works of art in their own right.More recently, as books have become inexpensive or even throwaway, artists have used them as the raw material for artworks—transforming covers, pages or even complete volumes into paintings and sculptures.
Continued developments in communication technologies were once believed to make the printed page outdated. From a 21st century point of view, the printed book is certainly ancient, but it remains as interactive as any battery powered e reader. To serve its function, a book must be activated by a user: the cover opened, the pages parted, the contents reviewed, perhaps notes written down or words underlined. And in contrast to our increasingly networked lives where the information we consume is monitored and tracked, a printed book still offers the chance of a wholly private, “off line” activity.
8. Where is the text most probably taken from
A.An introduction to a book.
B.An essay on the art of writing.
C.A guidebook to a museum.
D.A review of modern paintings.
9. What are the selected artworks about
A.Wealth and intellect.
B.Home and school.

D.Work and leisure.
10. What do the underlined words “relate to” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Understand. B.Paint.
C.Seize. D.Transform.
11. What does the author want to say by mentioning the e reader
A.The printed book is not totally out of date.
B.Technology has changed the way we read.
C.Our lives in the 21st century are networked.
D.People now rarely have the patience to read.
As a child, I was crazy about the art of pottery (陶艺). The way the smooth clay made beneath my fingertips, transforming into unique shapes under the gentle rotation (旋转) of the potter’s wheel, was really magical. I spent countless hours in my school’s art studio, lost in a world where creativity knew no bounds. Each piece I crafted was a labor of love, an expression of my thoughts and emotions.
However, as I grew up, my once-strong passion for pottery gradually disappeared. The pressures of academic excellence, social obligations, and the uncertainty of the future pushed my artistic pursuits to the periphery (边缘) of my life. I traded in my pottery tools for textbooks and calculators, convinced that a more “practical” path was the key to a successful future.
Years passed, and I found myself ensconced (安置) in a corporate job that, while financially rewarding, left me feeling unfulfilled. The boring daily routine, the endless meetings, and the constant pressure to meet targets had a bad effect on my spirit. I often found myself daydreaming about the carefree days of my childhood, when the simple act of creating something with my hands brought me so much joy.
One weekend, while searching through the attic (阁楼) of my childhood home, I found a dusty box filled with my old pottery pieces. As I carefully lifted each item out of the box, memories came flooding back. I was immediately transported back to those happy days in the art studio, where time seemed to stand still and every creation was a new adventure.
Holding my own pottery creation in hands, I was longing for the creative freedom I had once possessed. Without hesitation, I decided to learn pottery again. I enrolled in a local community college’s pottery class, feeling both nervous and excited as I stepped back into the world of clay and creativity.
The first few sessions were challenging. My hands, once so skillful, now moved awkwardly with the clay. The muscle memory that had once come so naturally seemed to have faded with time. But I refused to be discouraged. I spent hours practicing, studying the techniques of my fellow students and instructors, and gradually, my skills began to return.
As I explored in my pottery journey, I realized that it wasn’t just about creating beautiful objects. It was about reconnecting with a part of myself that I had lost along the way. It was about finding relief in the creative process, in the act of taking something formless and transforming it into something meaningful.
With each new piece I created, I felt a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that I had never experienced in my corporate career. The stress and anxiety that had bothered me for so long seemed to melt away as I focused on the simple pleasure of working with my hands.
Today, pottery has once again become a part of my life. It has taught me the importance of staying true to myself, of never losing sight of the things that bring me joy and fulfillment.
12.What is the main idea of the passage
A.The author’s struggle to balance a corporate job and a creative hobby.
B.How the pressures of adolescence led the author to abandon a once-loved activity.
C.The author’s rediscovery of a childhood passion for pottery and its profound impact on his life.
D.A comparison between the author’s corporate career and his artistic pursuits.
13.Why did the author give up pottery during adolescence
A.He lost interest in all forms of art.
B.He was convinced that pottery was not a practical pursuit.
C.He couldn’t afford the materials for pottery-making.

It’s happened to all of us: a song comes on the radio, and we are immediately transported back to a time in our past. 37
There are a few things that connect tunes with our memories. Music is often a necessary element of many important life events, and it is also very effective in arresting our attention. 38 Besides, the emotional nature of music helps make it particularly memorable.
We often become familiar with a piece of music because we hear it as background music. The more familiar a piece of music is, the more effective it is in bringing back memories. 39 The reason is that we are far more likely to hear a song over and over again than to watch a film or a TV programme in the same way.
Tiffany Jenkins, writing for a culture column, has a different opinion: 40 She tells us how throughout history oral cultures have passed important knowledge from generation to generation through songs because of this characteristic. The rhythm (韵律) and rhyme in lines of songs all serve as memory aids.
41 This fact corresponds with what many experts call the “reminiscence bump (怀旧性记忆)”, where older adults (over forty) have increased recollection of events that occurred during their adolescence and early adulthood.
It’s clear that our memories and music are closely linked — to the point that music is being used to help Alzheimer’s disease sufferers access memories that they thought they had lost.
A.Familiarity is important.
B.Music itself is easy to remember.
C.But what makes music so effective in doing this
D.Our musical preference usually forms during our teens.
E.This applies to music more than other cultural products.
F.Pop music especially can be connected with an important memory.
G.Music and these life events are likely to be linked together in our memories.

Music has long been considered to be an enjoyable pastime for many people. It is also highly popular due to the individualized effects on stress and anxiety. The mental health benefits from music can’t be argued. Music could also be helping you with many other health problems behind the scenes.
Some experts say that music can be harmful if it is too loud. However, for the same reason, music can be very beneficial if one is in pain. By distracting (分心) the mind from the pain, music, people say. can lower stress and anxiety levels. This, of course, can lead to less pain.
Many people enjoy relaxing music in the evening prior to going to bed. They say it can play a big role in calming the brain enough to sleep. While the validity of the idea is still being assessed, the lowered stress can even be tied back to blood pressure. Similarly, according to researchers, listening to just 30 minutes of soft music every day may help with healthy blood sugar levels, through the lowering of stress and anxiety.
When it comes to heart health, there is speculation (推测) that it’s not the style of music, but rather the tempo (节奏) that makes it so good for your heart health. In one European study, participants listened to music as the researchers monitored their heart rates and blood pressure. Interestingly, the more cheerful the music was, the faster their heart rates were. On the other hand, when the music slowed, the participants’ stress and anxiety levels became lower and the effects on heart rates appeared to follow suit.
The implications of music on overall well-being are really impressive. But there is a whole range of other health issues that turning up the radio could be beneficial for, which is what makes music so valuable.
42.How can music help reduce pain according to some people

“You haven’t written a word yet, have you ” Miss Perry had found me out. I hung my head, as in past years, and gave her the lines I had given to previous teachers.
“I don’t feel like it.”
The truth was that I wanted to write about something different. “Write about Your Best Friend,” demanded the assignment on the board. I didn’t have a best friend. I had a few friends, but I didn’t want to claim any of them as my “best”, because I was afraid they might pick someone else. What if I picked a “best” friend and then someone different, who thought I was their best friend, heard my paragraph read aloud and never spoke to me again It was a stupid topic. I was disappointed in Miss Perry for choosing it.
I knew Miss Perry must have heard about me from my other teachers. I had already prepared myself for another year of listening to teachers scold me. I was only nine years old, but my ears had been full to the voices of my elders. My teachers, my parents and the school principal had all given me the speech “What are we supposed to do with you ”. On the other hand, when the music slowed, the participants’ stress and anxiety levels became lower and the effects on heart rates appeared to follow suit(在一项欧洲研究中,参与者听音乐,研究人员监测他们的心率和血压。 In the European study, the relationship between music tempo and participants’ heart rates was that the more cheerful (faster tempo) the music was, the faster their heart rates were. Conversely, when the music slowed down, participants’ stress and anxiety levels decreased, and this seemed to be reflected in their heart rates as well。
根据文章第二段“However, for the same reason, music can be very beneficial if one is in pain. By distracting (分心) the mind from the pain, music, people say, can lower stress and anxiety levels. This, of course, can lead to less pain(然而,出于同样的原因,当一个人处于痛苦中时,音乐可能是非常有益的。人们说,通过将注意力从痛苦中转移开,音乐可以降低压力和焦虑水平。当然,这可以减少痛苦)”、第三段“Many people enjoy relaxing music in the evening prior to going to bed. They say it can play a big role in calming the brain enough to sleep(许多人喜欢在晚上睡前听舒缓的音乐。他们说,这在让大脑平静下来足以入睡方面能起到很大作用)”以及第四段“In one European study, participants listened to music as the researchers monitored their heart rates and blood pressure. Interestingly, the more cheerful the music was, the faster their heart rates were. On the other hand, when the music slowed, the participants’ stress and anxiety levels became lower and the effects on heart rates appeared to follow suit(在一项欧洲研究中,参与者听音乐,研究人员监测他们的心率和血压。有趣的是,音乐越欢快,他们的心率就越快。另一方面,当音乐放慢时,参与者的压力和焦虑水平降低,对心率的影响似乎也随之降低)”可知,音乐有许多益处。它通过在学习后用柔和的旋律平静心灵来缓解压力。它还通过器乐旋律帮助专注于任务,当疲惫时,欢快的歌曲能提升情绪。此外,它还能在夜晚营造出放松的氛围,使睡眠更好,每一天都更加平衡和愉快,故答案为In my daily life, music brings many benefits. It relieves stress by calming my mind with soft melodies after study. It also helps me focus on tasks through instrumental tunes, and lifts my mood with upbeat songs when I’m tired. What’s more, it also creates a relaxing atmosphere for better sleep at night, making each day more balanced and enjoyable。

However, there was something different about Miss Perry.Instead of scolding me, which was often the case, Miss Perry, with a benevolent smile, said, “I bet you must have a better topic to write.” Never expecting that she would have dealt with me so mildly, I stared at her in total disbelief with eyes popping out. Then Miss Perry nodded in affirmation, indicating that she meant what she said. I somehow grabbed a pen and started my composition, and soon a world full of sunshine and blue sky came alive on my paper. When Miss Perry read through my work, her face seemed to be permeated with sunshine and blue sky. “Well done!” she announced and patted me on the back tenderly.
I bet I was touched. It was the first time that my work had been recognized and my body had been touched by a teacher. I knew the sunshine from Miss Perry had pierced through my hard shell and was beginning to melt the solid ice in my heart. Afterwards, I turned to get involved in activities of sorts more actively, take to studying more attentively and befriend people around more faithfully. Miss Perry, as well as others, was gratified to see all the changes in me, which I largely owed to a different Miss Perry.

Alongside her impressive musical career, Leona Lewis is also the owner of a vegan (素食主义的) coffee shop, Coffee And Plants. She has great enthusiasm for the coffee shop and reveals the drink flavors that they’ve been working on lately. “We’ve just rolled out our new pumpkin drink at the coffee shop. It’s called Pumpkin Pie, and it’s really good! We use all real pumpkin puree, not flavored syrup.”
Coffee And Plants is a real passion project for Lewis, being fully plant-based. She has a long history of animal activism (行动主义), starting with going vegetarian (素食者) at the age of 12 after going on shopping trips with her mum and seeing protesters with animal testing signs. “I was so upset, I said, ‘Mum, I have to help the animals’,” she says. “That became my mission as a kid, and it’s fed into every aspect of my life.”
Her animal activism grew alongside her fame: in 2011 she supported a campaign to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, and in 2013 she released a cruelty-free makeup line with The Body Shop. When it came to opening a coffee shop, making it plant-based was a no-brainer.
“I wanted it to be plant-based because I’m plant-based,” she says. “I would often go into coffee shops and see milk cartons piled up high and think, how many cows are being milked for this The dairy industry and mass farming—it’s so cruel and harms the environment too.”
Environmental awareness is also at the heart of Coffee And Plants, with all cups being recyclable. But ultimately, Lewis is hoping for a more widespread mindset shift. “What we really try and get people to do is actually bring in their own bottles to refill, or we encourage them to sit in and have a coffee in a cup instead,” she explains. “We need a mindset shift where we start to think, OK, we shouldn’t really be using stuff that just goes in the bin.”
4.What does the phrase “rolled out” underlined in the first paragraph mean
A.improved. B.discovered. C.denied. D.launched.
5.Why did Lewis decide to be a vegetarian
A.She hated to eat animal meat. B.She wanted to protect animals.
C.She was inspired by her mom. D.She was given a great mission.
6.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the release of a cruelty-free makeup line
A.To show Lewis influence on business.
B.To compare Lewis’ different activities.
C.To prove that the makeup line is plant-based.
D.To give an example of Lewis’ animal activism.
7.Which of the following statements may Lewis agree with
A.People have to start using reusable things.
B.The mind shift is quite easy to accomplish.
C.People shouldn’t use cups in the coffee shop.
D.Only vegetarians can go into the coffee shop.
Cattle farming is essential for food production, however, it contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Researchers at the University of California, Davis, have proposed a natural solution to reduce this impact: seaweed.
Adding seaweed to cow food can help reduce methane (甲烷) emissions from grazing (放牧) cattle. They say this could make “cattle farming more sustainable.”
“Beef cattle spend only about three months in feedlots (饲养场) and spend most of their lives grazing on grasslands and producing methane,” said Ermias Kebreab, senior author professor in the Department of Animal Science. “We need to make this seaweed additive or any feed additive more accessible to grazing cattle to make cattle farming more sustainable while meeting the global demand for meat.”
According to the press release, this is the first of its kind study to explore seaweed’s potential to reduce methane emissions from grazing beef cattle. Earlier studies have showcased that seaweed can reduce methane emissions from feedlot cattle by 82 percent and dairy cows by more than half.
To test the effectiveness of seaweed as a methane-reducing supplement (补充剂),researchers divided 24 beef cattle into two groups. One group received a seaweed supplement, while the other served as a control. Over a 10-week period at a Montana farm, the grazing cattle voluntarily consumed the supplement. A specialized machine measured the emission rate. The findings showcased a significant 40 percent reduction in methane emissions.
Most studies on reducing methane emissions through feed additives have been conducted in controlled settings. For instance, feedlots, where cattle receive daily supplements. However, Kebreab’s research highlights that many of these methods are not suitable for grazing cattle, which have different dietary needs and behaviors.
Cattle are responsible for a significant 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. They release methane during digestion due to their diet being rich in fibrous grass. The researchers highlight that grazing cattle release more methane compared to feedlot or dairy cattle. This study offers a potential solution to make cattle grazing more environmentally friendly.
8.What is the main purpose of adding seaweed to cattle’s diet
A.To reduce methane emissions. B.To improve the taste of the meat.

Chad Pregracke is a modern-day leader and proof that one person can make a difference. What started as one man’s effort at age 23 to clean up the Mississippi River, has evolved into a cultural movement that had resulted in over 8 million pounds of garbage being cleaned out of America’s rivers.
The enthusiasm and leadership skills that Chad possesses have inspired more than 70,000 people to volunteer their time and resources. Growing up in Hampton, Illinois with the Mississippi River in his backyard, Chad has always loved the water. His family spent the majority of their time on, in and around the river. Chad’s first jobs were on the river as a commercial div er and fisherman. Working on the river gave Chad a first-hand and close-up look at the shores where there was poisonous trash here and there.
At age 17, Chad began calling government agencies to tell them about the problem. None of his calls resulted in government action and the trash problem seemed to be escalating every year.
Chad decided that it was up to him to make a difference and clean the rivers. At age 23, Chad founded Living Lands & Waters, a not-for-profit organization aimed at preserving rivers in America. Chad worked tirelessly and called businesses to ask for an appointment just to tell the story of what he was seeing along the banks of rivers. Chad heard no during every phone call and was near the emotional bottom.
After begging a receptionist at Alcoa, Chad finally secured his first appointment. Alcoa took a chance on the young river kid and gave him his first check for $8,400, enough to cover expenses for his first clean-up project.
Since 1998, the organization has grown to include over 10 full-time employees, a fleet of 4 barges (大型平底船), 2 towboats(拖船), 1 crane, 6 workboats, 5 work trucks, and a large box truck to drag trash.

You will treat her as normal” My parents took that instruction seriously, I played sport, acted in theatre, excelled in school, participated in student government and had playdates. while I did set some stares and ‘polite’ questions about my disability, I am lucky because I wasn’t made fun of for my limb difference.
As kids do, I learned to adapt. One of earliest memories is my father trying to teach me to tie my shoes. I gently pushed him out of the way because his two=handed method wouldn’t work for me, and I figured out a way to do it with one hand. Not every challenge was that simple, however. Because my parents were trying so hard to make me feel ‘normal’, that also meant I didn’t really have space to talk about my limb difference ― and it was different. No matter how hard we tried, other kids had two hands and I had only one.
The fact that I was different hit me hard my first day of high school. I was 13, an age when kids are already very self-conscious. I remember getting on the bus and one of the other kids stared just a little too long at my left arm. The staring upset me in a way it never had before, and I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I immediately slipped it into my pocket.

1. 续写词数应为 150 词左右;

画线词句前文“She has great enthusiasm for the coffee shop and reveals the drink flavors that they’ve been working on lately.(她对这家咖啡店有着极大的热情,并透露了他们最近正在开发的饮料口味。)”说明这家咖啡店开发了一种新饮料,从而推知画线词句“We’ve just rolled out our new pumpkin drink at the coffee shop.(我们刚刚在咖啡店rolled out新的南瓜饮料。)”
根据第二段中“She has a long history of animal activism(行动主义), starting with going vegetarian(素食者) at the age of 12 after going on shopping trips with her mum and seeing protesters with animal testing signs.(她长期致力于动物保护运动,从12岁开始,她和妈妈一起去购物,看到抗议者拿着动物试验的牌子,之后就变成了素食者。)”
根据第三段中“Her animal activism grew alongside her fame: in 2011 she supported a campaign to ban the use of wild animals in circuses, and in 2013 she released a cruelty-free makeup line with The Body Shop.(她的动物保护主义伴随着她的名气而增长:2011年,她支持一项禁止在马戏团使用野生动物的运动,2013年,她与The Body Shop合作推出了一个无残忍的化妆品系列。)”
根据最后一段中“Environmental awareness is also at the heart of Coffee And Plants, with all cups being recyclable. But ultimately, Lewis is hoping for a more widespread mindset shift. ‘What we really try and get people to do is actually bring in their own bottles to refill, or we encourage them to sit in and have a coffee in a cup instead,’ she explains. ‘We need a mindset shift where we start to think, OK, we shouldn’t really be using stuff that just goes in the bin.’(环保意识也是咖啡和植物的核心,所有的杯子都是可回收的。但最终,Lewis希望更广泛的心态转变。她解释说:‘我们真正试图让人们做的是,把自己的瓶子带进来重新装满,或者我们鼓励他们坐在里面,用杯子喝咖啡。’‘我们需要转变思维方式,开始思考,好吧,我们不应该真的使用那些直接扔进垃圾箱的东西。’)”可知,Lewis会同意这种说法,人们需要转变思维方式,必须开始使用可重复使用的东西。故选A项。

Possible version:
I spent the next two decades keeping my limb difference hidden at all times. I’d keep my hand in my pocket, cover it with extra-long sleeves or tuck it behind bags or underneath jackets. In my mind, I had decided that my missing hand made me extremely ugly and that if people knew about it they would not want to be around me anymore. I internalised this self-loathing, .and it only strengthened over the years, When I finally realized I was not thriving, I was determined to stop it.
The journey of hiding to unhiding was hard, but the efforts were rewarding. I learned that being comfortable with myself made other people more comfortable as well. Talking about my struggles gave them permission to talk about theirs as well, and I was able to bond on a deeper level with a much larger group of people. For 25 years, I’ve worked in non-profit organisations working with young people. Accepting my disability has sparked a passion in me to educate others about disability as part of diversity, through public speaking and writing.

Decades of increasing corn and soya bean production have turned Brazil into an agricultural powerhouse, which also led to the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. That has long put farmers and environmentalists in disagreement. But a study released in October by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) shows the extent to which deforestation is hurting farmers too.
The report shows that the practice of clear-cutting in the Brazilian Amazon led to reduced crop production, resulting in total economic losses of about $1 billion between 2006 and 2019.The net revenues (收入) for soya beans dropped by 10% over that time, while corn revenues dropped by 20%. Anders Krogh, a specialist forest adviser at RFN, says these findings demonstrate the danger deforestation poses to global food security.
When ancient forests become rolling plains, a delicate balance of water cycle is disturbed. As trees breathe, they turn water into vapour (水蒸气), which goes on to form large, thick rain clouds, and has a cooling effect on the region. This recycling process also influences atmospheric circulation (循环), which plays a key role in temperature regulation in the Amazon basin. The effects are the severest in the most deforested regions. Less rain and hotter days mean smaller harvests and smaller revenues.
Preventing further deforestation in Brazil’s southern Amazon could slow the trend. Plus, reforesting could even change rainfall trends: the report concludes that if the Brazilian state of Pará were to reforest 55,000 km of farming land, the rain could come on average five days earlier, and up to 19 in some areas. For now, though, that seems likea tall order. Agricultural firms in Brazil tend to treat such reports and the researchers who produce them with doubt. The term “agri-phobic (农业恐惧)” is often used to describe scientists who criticize the country’s farming practices. At the grassroots level, despite the increasing costs of adapting to drier conditions, Brazilian farmers doubt the claims that lower production results from climate change or deforestation.
Britaldo Soares-Filho, a researcher at UFMG and the report’s lead author, hopes that concentrating on the financial effect of deforestation, rather than abstract modelling, can change farmers’ minds. Sustainable farming practices, he urges, are in the economic interests of agribusiness.

A.By listing statistics.
B.By citing a saying.
C.By making an assumption.
D.By introducing a concept.
5.Which is close to the underlined idiom “a tall order” in meaning in paragraph 4

6.What does Britaldo Soares-Filho mean
A.Logging contributes to financial increase.
B.Abstract modelling makes a big difference.
C.Clear-cutting puts global food security in great danger.
D.Farmers should focus on the financial impact of deforestation.
7.What is the best title for the text
A.Deforestation: it boosts revenues
B.Water cycle: it disturbs agriculture
C.Climate change: it worsens rainforest?
D.Reforesting: it relieves global warming?
In the tropical rainforest, there always exist battles, ones to claim the tree's dead body and the vast amount of nutrients that it contains. It's a battle that is fought throughout the natural world, involving a group of organisms that humans rarely notice.
On the floor of a tropical rainforest, it's dark, humid and hot, providing ideal conditions for fungi (真菌). Humans normally think of fungi as things like this— mushrooms of one kind or another. But these are just the fruiting bodies. They exist for most of the time hidden in the leaf litter and the earth as a network of fine white threads.
The threads of competing fungi envelop their victim's body, releasing enzymes (酶) which digest the tree's tissues and unlock the nutrients within. There are a million or so different species of fungi in the tropics. Some feed on dead plants. Others eat them alive. And some reveal their existence in an eerily beautiful way. In Africa, in Congo, this is known as chimpanzee fire. The mysterious glow becomes brighter as the fungi digests the tree. When fungi have fed sufficiently, they develop their reproductive organs.
Each can produce literally billions of spores (孢子), the tiny particles that carry the species' genetic blueprint. Each spore like this has the potential to kill a tree. The spores are so light that they can be carried by the slightest air currents. At least a billion float above every square meter of rainforest.
Recently, it has been discovered that these spores do far more than just bring death and decay. They are, in fact, at the very center of the rainforest's life support system. High in the humid air, the spores combine with molecules of water. Gradually, they collect into droplets, which fall as rain when they are heavy enough. Over two-and-a-half meters of rain falls every year in a rainforest. And in the center of almost every raindrop, there is a fungal spore.
8.What can we learn from paragraph 1
A.The trees' dead bodies are now popular.
B.Battles for nutrients occur in the rainforest.
C.Wild nature is being conquered by humans.
D.People are fully aware of the natural world.
9.What is the role of fungi in a tropical rainforest ecosystem
A.It forms a network of fine white threads to support each other.
B.It glows to exist in the rainforest and produce billions of spores.
C.It fights against each other to occupy ideal conditions for its living.
D.It decomposes plants and releases nutrients back into the ecosystem.
10.How do fungal spores contribute to the rainforest's life support system
A.They combine with water molecules to form raindrops.
B.They facilitate the water cycle by reproducing more spores.
C.They float in the air to cool down the climate in the rainforest.
D.They contribute to dealing with the dead trees and bring new life.
11.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Mysterious Facts in the Rainforest
B.The Formation of Fungi in the Rainforest
C.The Challenge Fungi Face in the Rainforest
D.The Hidden Power of Rainforest Decomposers
How can we possibly cope with the large amount of information about virus spread, canceled plans and uncertainty about the future Some people are buried in the fear, anxiety and sadness, checking news sites and social media constantly. Others try to be prevented from knowing it all and ignore the outside world.
There's a third option, though. Rather than fully getting involved in the negative or ignoring it, we can do our best to experience joy alongside everything else that is sad in the world. In fact, research that and others have conducted suggests that allowing the two different emotions to coexist may actually benefit us in the long run.
Dr. Jeff Larsen and his colleagues invented an expression known as the “coactivation model of mixed emotions”, and the basic idea is that we may be able to deal with, and learn from negative emotions like sadness if we experience them concurrently with positive emotions like joy at the same time. Here, positive emotions provide a psychological buffer (缓冲),making it easier for people to deal with the things they don't want to face.
The comedian Mitch Hedberg proposed ananalogythat captures this essence quite well, noting that it would be cool if you could eat a carrot with an onion ring and they would travel down to your stomach. Then they would get there, and the carrot would say, “It's cool, he's with me.” Applied to our emotional lives, we could do a better job in digesting, processing gaining insight into the negative events in our lives if we could do so alongside the positive.
Several years ago, my partner Jon Adler and I set out to test this exact idea. Specifically, we looked at sample of adult volunteers who signed up for weekly mental , health therapy sessions. Between each week, they reported the feelings they were having and also took a few questionnaires that were meant to assess their overall health. This design allowed us to examine how different emotional experiences would impact mental health in a longitudinal fashion, over the course of 12 weeks.
It's worth noting first that everyone seemed to improve a bit as the weeks marched on:therapy helps and so does time. More to the point, though, mixed emotions at one time point were positively associated with improvements in psychological well-being at the next time point. The more of a mixture of, say, happiness and sadness someone experienced today, the better feeling they'd experience next week.
However, when we looked at mixed emotions that were experienced in a given week, they weren't associated with improved mental health in that same week.
The true benefit from mixed emotions may not happen immediately, but rather, likely happen sometime in the future.
12.What does the author recommend people do with a flood of bad news
A.Take no notice of it at all.

A.To measure the volunteers health on the whole.
B.To record what the volunteers are experiencing.
C.To treat the mental diseases of the adults.

Between school, homework, sports, your after-school job, and hanging out with friends, it may feel like there’s no time for healthy eating. And when you have time, you may simply eat snacks like potato chips. 37 In fact, if you have a busy schedule, it’s even more important to eat healthy foods that give you the energy you need to keep going.
38 For example, you may feel hungry in a long afternoon of classes or during your swim meet. Knowing how much food your body needs to satisfy this hunger is important. A few walnuts(核桃) are great brain food before sitting down to do your math homework. 39
Healthy snacking is important to you. During teenage years, the body needs more nutrients to grow. Snacks are a great way to satisfy your hunger and get all nutrients your body needs. 40 Do not eat foods with lots of added sugars like candy bars or soda. That’s because eating these foods may help you stop feeling hungry for a moment, but they are bad for your health in the long term.
Choosing healthy snacks means shopping smart. 41 We may find “all natural” on the side of a package but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s nutritious. For example, “all natural” juice drinks can be filled with sugar, which means they’ll make you fat easily and give you little nutrition.
A.It’s natural to feel hungry at certain times.
B.Healthy snacking doesn’t have to be boring.
C.But you need to pay attention to what you eat.
D.But it is possible to treat yourself to a healthy one.
E.Be careful of the health information on food packages.
F.If you’re really feeling hungry, don’t pay no attention to it.
G.A whole bag only makes you put on weight easily, however!
Perhaps one of the most terrible weather phenomena is the tornado. The unpredictability of a tornado produces fear in many areas. Tornadoes are one of nature’s most devastating storms, but they don’t last long. The average length of a tornado is only five to thirty minutes, but the places they travel to are often ruined.
The strong winds of a tornado can tear just almost anything from the ground including trees, vehicles, and even houses. Another damaging effect of tornadoes is actually from the debris that the storm picks up. People have been buried alive by houses or mud picked up and then dropped by a tornado, but also lightning that the storm produces. It can cause fires and electrical problems.
If there is a tornado approaching, what safety measures should you take First, it is important to realize that there is no specific way to know if a storm is going to produce a tornado. Scientists have only developed warning systems that tell them if a storm is capable of producing a tornado.
During severe weather, leave a radio on. It’s inexpensive and could save your life. If you hear the announcer say there is a tornado warning that means the conditions are correct for forming a tornado. A tornado warning means a tornado has been seen.
If you find yourself in danger, find shelter in the lowest possible place, such as a basement. If your home does not have a basement, go to the safest room. Stay away from windows or anything heavy like furniture. A bathroom is a good location. Take your battery-powered radio to your shelter and turn it on. Kneel on the floor and cover your head with your hands. This is the best position to avoid damage during a tornado.

My birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world. Within minutes of coming out, doctors gave my parents the difficult news: I was born missing my left hand.
Indeed, that announcement of my limb difference might have been a disaster if it hadn’t been for what happened next. I’m told that a nurse placed me m my mother’s arms and instructed: “You will take her home. You will love her. you will raise her like you would any child.

I spent the next two decades keeping my limb difference hidden at all times.

Anders Krogh, a specialist forest adviser at RFN, says these findings demonstrate the danger deforestation poses to global food security.(报告显示,巴西亚马孙地区的皆伐导致农作物产量减少,2006年至2019年期间经济损失总额约为10亿美元。 故选A。
根据上文“Plus, reforesting could even change rainfall trends: the report concludes that if the Brazilian state of Pará were to reforest 55,000 km of farming land, the rain could come on average five days earlier, and up to 19 in some areas.(此外,重新造林甚至可以改变降雨趋势:报告得出结论,如果巴西帕拉州能够对5.5万平方公里的耕地进行重新造林,那么雨水可能会平均提前5天到来,在某些地区甚至可能提前19天到来。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段“Britaldo Soares-Filho, a researcher at UFMG and the report’s lead author, hopes that concentrating on the financial effect of deforestation, rather than abstract modelling, can change farmers’ minds.(UFMG的研究员、该报告的主要作者布里塔尔多·索阿雷斯·菲略希望,把注意力集中在森林砍伐的经济影响上,而不是抽象的建模上,可以改变农民的想法。)”
根据第一段“But a study released in October by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) shows the extent to which deforestation is hurting farmers too.(但米纳斯吉拉斯联邦大学(UFMG)和挪威雨林基金会(RFN)10月发布的一项研究显示,森林砍伐对农民的伤害程度也很大。)”和第二段“The report shows that the practice of clear-cutting in the Brazilian Amazon led to reduced crop production, resulting in total economic losses of about $1 billion between 2006 and 2019.(报告显示,巴西亚马孙地区的皆伐导致农作物产量减少,2006年至2019年期间经济损失总额约为10亿美元。)” 故选A。

【答案】12.D 13.D 14.C 15.A 16.B
根据文章第二段“Rather than fully getting involved in the negative or ignoring it, we can do our best to experience joy alongside everything else that is sad in the world.”(与其完全沉浸在消极的事物中或者忽略它,我们可以尽我们最大的努力去体验快乐和世界上所有的悲伤。)
根据文章第三段“and learn from negative emotions like sadness if we experience them concurrently with positive emotions like joy' at the same time.”(如果我们同时经历悲伤等消极情绪和快乐等积极情绪,就能从这些情绪中学习。)
根据划线词所在的句子“noting that it would be cool if you could eat a carrot with an onion ring and they would travel down to your stomach. Then they would get there, and the carrot would say, “It's cool, he's with me.” Applied to our emotional lives, we could do a better job in digesting, processing gaining insight into the negative events in our lives if we could do so alongside the positive.”(他指出,如果你吃胡萝卜时也吃洋葱圈,它们会顺着你的胃蠕动,那就太酷了。
根据文章第五段“Between each week, they reported the feelings they were having and also took a few questionnaires that were meant to assess their overall health.”(每个星期,他们都要报告自己的感受,也要做一些问卷调查来评估他们的整体健康状况。) 故选A项。
根据文章第三段“the basic idea is that we may be able to deal with, and learn from negative emotions like sadness if we experience them concurrently with positive emotions like joy' at the same time. Here, positive emotions provide a psychological buffer (缓冲),making it easier for people to deal with the things they don't want to face.”(其基本思想是,如果我们同时经历悲伤等消极情绪和快乐等积极情绪,那么我们或许能够处理这些情绪,并从中学习。 和第四段“Applied to our emotional lives, we could do a better job in digesting, processing gaining insight into the negative events in our lives if we could do so alongside the positive.”(如果把它应用到我们的情感生活中,我们可以更好地消化、处理、洞察生活中的消极事件,如果我们能在积极事件的同时做到这一点的话。)

A
The greening of planes, trains and automobiles
Moving goods and people around the world is responsible for a large part of global CO2 emissions (排放). As the world races to decarbonize everything, it faces particular problems with transportation — which accounts for about a quarter of our energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Here’s the breakdown of the emissions in 2018 for different modes of transport.
The fuels for transport need to be not just green cheap and powerful, but also lightweight and safe enough to be carried around. Each mode of transport has its specific fuel needs. Much is still to be settled, but here are some of the solutions to get us going green.
PLANES — Synthetic hydrocarbons The hardest sector to decarbonize is aviation. One long-term option for sustainable fuel for planes is to make hydrocarbons from recycled air. CARS — Batteries Batteries are energy-efficient and electric cars can plug into existing systems and services. New solid-state batteries will take a car farther on a single charge.
TRAINS — Electricity Some trains are already electrified through rails or wires; others can be made electric in pretty simple ways. TRUCKS — Hydrogen fuel cells Hydrogen fuel cells are a lighter choice than batteries for trucks, but making green hydrogen is expensive. SHIPS — Liquid ammonia Liquid ammonia is easy to keep and transport, but it is hard to ignite (点燃) and requires an engine redesign.
This energy transition (变革) is global, and the amount of renewable energy the world will need is “a little bit mind-blowing,” says mechanical engineer Keith Wipke at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It’s estimated that the global demand for electricity could more than double by 2050. Fortunately, analyses suggest that renewables are up to the task. “We need to speed up the development of green energy, and it will all get used,” says Wipke.
1. What percentage of global transport emissions did road vehicles account for in 2018
A. 11.6%. B. 45.1%. C. 74.5%. D. 86.1%.
2. Which mode of transport can go green comparatively easily
A. Planes. B. Trucks. C. Trains. D. Ships.
3. What does Wipke suggest regarding energy transition
A. Limiting fuel consumption. B. Putting more effort into renewables.
C. Improving energy efficiency. D. Making electricity more affordable.

Microplastics have become a common source of pollution across the Earth — they have settled in the deep sea and on the Himalayas, stuck inside volcanic rocks, filled the stomachs of seabirds and even fallen in fresh Antarctic snow. They are even appearing inside humans.
Now, new research suggests that a simple, cheap measure may significantly reduce the level of microplastics in water from your tap (水龙头): boiling and filtering (过滤) it. In a study published Wednesday in Environmental Science & Technology Letters, researchers from China found that boiling tap water for just five minutes — then filtering it after it cools — could remove at least 80 percent of its microplastics.
Crucially, this process relies on the water containing enough calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) to trap the plastics. In the study, boiling hard water containing 300 milligrams of calcium carbonate led to an almost 90 percent drop in plastics. But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent. Additionally, the research didn’t include all types of plastics. The team focused only on three common types — polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene — and they didn’t study other chemicals previously found in water such as vinyl chloride.
Still, the findings show a potential path forward for reducing microplastic exposure — a task that’s becoming increasingly difficult. Even bottled water, scientists found earlier this year, contains 10 to 1,000 times more microplastics than originally thought.
Scientists are still trying to determine how harmful microplastics are — but what they do know has raised concerns. The new study suggests boiling tap water could be a tool to limit intake. “The way they demonstrated how microplastics were trapped through the boiling process was nice,” Caroline Gauchotte-Lindsay, an environmental engineer of the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved in the research, tells New Scientist. “We should be looking into upgrading drinking water treatment plants so they remove microplastics.”

According to the solar Energy Industry Association , the number of solar panels installed (安装) has grown rapidly in the past decade , and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space , and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy , few like large solar panels to be installed near them.
Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible , so they haven’t given much thought to what they put under them. often , they’ll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities , especially in farming regions , see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.
“ Solar projects need to be good neighbors , ”says Jordan Macknick , the head of the Innovative site preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment (InspIRE) project.“They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy. ”InspIREis investigating practical approaches to“ low-impact ”solar development , which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. one of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators
Habitat loss , pesticide use , and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the past couple of decades , which has damaged the U.s. agricultural economy. over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens , businesses , schools , cities—and now there are guidelines for solar farms.
Over the past few years , many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators , resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction.“ These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that’s going on in the landscape , ”says Macknick.

42.How can music help reduce pain according to some people
43.What are the possible effects of listening to relaxing music before bed
44.In the European study, what was the relationship between music tempo and participants’ heart rates
45.In your daily life, what benefits can music bring you

“The exhibition brings together Go culture, cutting-edge technology and contemporary art,” says Tu. “We hope 49 (present)the rather abstract Go game and AI in a visual context, and initiate dialogues with minimalist art, conceptual art and expressionism.”
“In a Go game, each move should serve a long-term goal. You try to lead the opponent into your trap and force them to follow your ’ 50 (guide) till they lose,” explains Wang Wei, a Go player among the visitors to the exhibition.
“The players’ personalities 51 (reveal) during the game and one’s weaknesses are exposed to the opponent,” she adds. “A decent winner always 52 (try) to beat the opponent 53 no more than one or two points as a gesture (姿态) of respect for the other side. ”
Tu says that the balance between the black and white pieces, the beauty in the 54 (strategy) placement of the pieces, 55 the energy flow following each move inspired artists to create oil paintings, sculptures, 56 (digital) generated pictures and silk-screen prints for the exhibition.

考生易根据下文提到的go through five ecosystems in the space of a few kilometers而误以为乞力马扎罗山最好的风景不是在山顶。
Mountains are as spiritual places by many cultures.

30.根据At the base is a rainforest. It ends abruptly at 3,000 meters, lands of low growing plants.Further up… which are covered with thick grass. give way to意为“被……取代”,符合语境。hold on to意为“坚持;紧紧抓住”;go back to意为“追溯到,回到”;live up to意为“不辜负;符合”。

32.根据设空后的twelve shades of green from where I stand可知,此处指作者从自己站的地方数了数有十二种不同的绿色色度的植被。

I found the opposite to be true.

39.根据后文“The reason is that we are far more likely to hear a song over and over again than to watch a film or a TV programme in the same way.(原因是我们更有可能一遍又一遍地听一首歌,而不是用同样的方式看电影或电视节目。)”
40.根据后文“She tells us how throughout history oral cultures have passed important knowledge from generation to generation through songs because of this characteristic. The rhythm (韵律) and rhyme in lines of songs all serve as memory aids.(她告诉我们,由于这一特点,在整个历史中,口头文化是如何通过歌曲将重要的知识代代相传的。歌词的节奏和韵律都可以帮助记忆。)”可知,此处是指音乐容易记忆,所以选项B“音乐本身很容易记住。”切合文意。故选B。
41.根据后文“This fact corresponds with what many experts call the “reminiscence bump (怀旧性记忆)”, where older adults (over forty) have increased recollection of events that occurred during their adolescence and early adulthood.(这一事实与许多专家所说的“怀旧性记忆”相吻合,即老年人(40岁以上)对青春期和成年早期发生的事件的回忆增加。)”

Go, or weiqi in Chinese,指物,且关系词代替先行词在从句中作主语,所以用关系代词which引导。故填which。
故填the。
故填to present。

故填by。
the balance between the black and white pieces, the beauty in the strategic placement of the pieces, the energy flow following each move三者为并列关系,作并列主语,所以空处需用连词and。故填and。
