Good morning! Welcome to Mom’s Dish. I’m your old friend, Cindy. Today, I’ll make the sandwich. It is very tasty and healthy. Here is the recipe for it.

Place the tomato, lettuce and lunch meat on the bread, too. *After that, put the other slice of bread on top. *Then, cut it in half, and now you have two sandwiches. *Finally, heat your sandwiches in the microwave (微波炉). Do you think you are a happy person Some scientists have worked out “happiness formulas (公式)” to help us understand what makes us happy. Martin Seligman, an American expert, is one of them. In 2002, he shared his formula: Happiness=S (50%)+C (10%)+V (40%).
S stands for genes (基因). Scientists found that some people are born to be happy more easily than others. There’s nothing we can do about that. Your genes make a certain level of happiness that you usually have.
C is for unchanging parts of your life, such as your age, gender (性别), and where you grow up. Surprisingly, all these things together are only for 10% of your happiness.
The other 40% of your happiness is about things you can choose. In other words, it’s about your actions: what you do or don’t do, and how you think about the life.
Sometimes, most of us try to find happiness by improving our outside circumstances (环境), such as moving to a new city, buying a bigger house, or driving a faster car. But happiness springs from actions you take and thoughts you think—look on the bright side of life. Thank mistakes you made, enjoy things you have and expect good things to happen.
Remember: there is so much to help you feel happy. The choice is yours.
4. What does “C” stand for according to Martin Seligman
A. Ages. B. Genes. C. Actions. D. Thoughts.
5. Which of the following can help people feel happy most
A. Buying a more expensive car. B. Thinking positively about life.
C. Getting a big and beautiful house. D. Moving to a city for a better job.
6. What’s the best title of the passage
A. The key to happiness B. Genes decide happiness
C. All kinds of happiness D. Activities make us happy
C
When I was a child, I wanted to be a farmer’s wife, but my parents encouraged me to dream bigger. Later, I thought about becoming a farmer or a driver, but my dad told me I would do something I didn’t like. I then wanted to be an archaeologist (考古学家), and finally, a football player.
I grew up in a football-loving family. My dad played for Liverpool FC Boys, and my sister trained with Crewe Alexandra Girls. One day, while watching a game with my dad, I said, “I’m sad. I have no dream now.” He asked why, and I answered, “Because I’m not a boy, I can’t be a football player.” He told me women’s football was great and that I could play if I wanted to. “But no one watches women’s football.” I thought.
Looking back, I understand why I felt that way. At school, there was a rule that football was a “boys’ sport,” and I never saw a women’s football match on TV. The only women players I knew were in the Olympics. As Marian Wright-Edelman said, “You can’t be what you can’t see.” Good examples are important and they shape people’s choices. For example, we can set higher goals, go for shining spirits and make better decisions.
Today, women’s football is growing. The Lionesses, England’s women’s team, are playing in the World Cup, and many people are watching. But women players still make much less money than men players and fewer people watch women’s football.
As I cheer for the Lionesses today, I hope their success encourages young girls to believe they can be football players too. Maybe one day, women’s football will be as important and popular as men’s.
7. What did the writer want to be after her father told her
A. A farmer B. A farmer’s wife C. A driver D. A football player
8. Why did the writer feel sad while watching the game
A. Because she wasn’t good at playing sports.
B. Because her parents didn’t support her dream.
C. Because she thought football was only for boys.
D. Because there wasn’t a women’s football team.
9. Which is the meaning of the underlined word “shape” in Paragraph 3
Shape / e p/ v. Shape / e p/ n. ①To prepare to do sth ③Good health ②To have an important influence ④The form of something
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④
10. What’s the purpose of the passage
A. To talk about different jobs and lives.
B. To invite more people to play football.
C. To share the experience of being players.

Hello, everyone. Today I’m glad to share my ideas about how to have a happy life with you.
Firstly, helping others is a key to happiness. When we offer a hand to those in need, we not only brighten their day but also feel happy. For example, we can volunteer at an old people’s home, help classmates with homework, or even donate old books to children in poor areas. Small acts of kindness create big smiles—both for others and ourselves!
Besides, staying active through sports is another wonderful way to stay joyful. Exercise can make us feel relaxed and excited. We can choose activities we love, like playing basketball, dancing, or simply taking a walk in the park every evening. By doing this regularly, we can build a healthy body and a positive mind.
Remember, happiness grows when we care for others and take care of ourselves. Let’s start today—spread kindness and stay active!
Thanks for listening!
