Dear Richard,
Thank you for contacting me about your travel plan, which is amazing. I am writing to
tell you something about my plans for the coming holidays.
With the Winter vacation coming, I am going to travel to Beijing with my family. We
will spend 6 days there, from Oct. 1st to Oct. 6th . It’s because of its rich cultural heritage as
well as its beautiful scenery that we choose to travel there. I'm planning to visit the Great Wall
there because it’s a great wonder created by ancient Chinese people. Apart from that, we also
have planed several other destinations like the Imperial Palace and the Summer Palace.
We’re taking the train, leaving the day before the October holiday begins. I am sure we will
have a wonderful holiday!
In my opinion, travel can not only enrich my knowledge, but also broaden my horizons.
Look forward to your early reply.

“Is everybody ready ” the teacher asked, I certainly wasn’t. It was the early 1980s and 1 was in my high
school typing class. I took it as an elective (选修的) course because learning French or Spanish seemed too
difficult. After some time, I wished I hadn’t picked it, I had thought we would just be learning to touch type (自
打), but not be tested on speed and accuracy (准确率), In addition to this, l was the only freshman in the class,
Most of the other students were juniors or seniors.
“Hands on home keys. Eyes on the book, Ready Type,” said the teacher, Suddenly the room was alive with
30 electric typewriters’ keys being pounded (猛击) on, I tried my best to keep up, but it was clear being a clerk
wasn’t in my future. Though I didn’t make many errors, my typing speed was very slow and I knew I wasn’t going
to get a good grade on this test. I really regretted(后悔) taking this class and wished I could be learning French
instead.
Now 43 years later I am so happy that I took that class and learned how to type. It has helped me write
countless stories with inspiration (灵感) flowing through my heart and mind and into the keys on my computer
keyboard. It has helped me to write letters and e-mails full of kindness to share with friends and family. It has
helped me to do what I was meant to do and share what I was meant to share in this life. I am thankful to take that
class.
We may meet difficulties in life. There are people we need to meet, skills we need to learn, talents we need to

sometimes.

Your chair is your enemy.
It doesn't matter if you go running every morning, or you often work out at the gym. If you spend most of the
rest of the day sitting, you are putting yourself at increased chance of heart disease, cancers and an early death. In
other words, even if you often exercise, sitting for long time is bad for you.
So what's wrong with sitting Sitting is one of the most passive things you can do. You burn (燃烧)more
energy by chewing gum(嚼口香糖) than you do sitting still in a pared with sitting, standing in one
place is hard work. To stand, you have to tense your leg muscles, and the muscles of your back and shoulders,
While standing, you` often change from leg to leg. All of this burns energy.
For many people, weight gain(增加) is a matter of slow increase. Thus, a little more time on your feet today
and tomorrow can easily make the difference between staying thin and getting fat. So part of the problem with
sitting a lot is that you don't use as much energy as those who spend more time on their feet. This makes it easier
to gain weight, and makes you more likely to suffer from the health problems that fatness often brings.
Some people have advanced solutions: replace your sit-down desk with a stand-up desk. Make sure that your
television can only operate if you are practising on an exercise bike. Replace your office chair with a therapy (治
疗) ball: this too uses more muscles, and more energy, than a normal chair, because you have to support your back
and work to keep balanced. But whatever you choose, know this. It is clear: be careful of your chair.
28. The main purpose of writing this passage is to_____________.
A. suggest sitting less B. advise exercising often
C. avoid gaining weight D. escape standing more
29. From this passage, we know that_____________.
A. standing burns nearly as much energy as sitting still does
B. taking exercise regularly but sitting more will do good
C. less exercise will reduce the chance of having disease
D. energy-burning activities will help you enjoy good health
30. The underlined word “This" in paragraph 4 refers to “_____________”.
A. Gaining weight B. Burning energy
C. Sitting too much D. Standing more

B. suggest a way to settle the sitting problem
C. support our back and keep us balanced

Olympic athletes put everything into training for the Games, usually pushing their physical and mental
bounds to the limit—and beyond—for a shot at a gold medal.Yet they often have an emotional(情感的)
breakdown.
The Olympics is a massive cultural event—a combination of global public attention, financial investment and
media coverage. New international celebrities(名人 ) are created, and some competitors’ fame is ruined during
various accusations. Athletes are under the pressure of representing(代表 ) their country and winning medals in
front of worldwide audience. “But then all of that publicity and intensity around being an Olympian falls off very
quickly,” says Cogan, a lead sport psychologist. It’s more about making a map of how to get to a destination. Once
you get there, it’s like, “Now what ”
A 2023 paper explained the identity crises(身份危机) athletes face as a result of overfocus on performance,
leaving their non-sporting personalities underdeveloped. In a 2018 paper, Howells wrote that athletes with a
greater “myopic” focus are more in danger of the “blues”. “It is common for top competitors to have this very
high athletic identity,” says Howells. “They’ve sacrificed (牺牲 ) every other aspect of their identity for the
purpose of being an Olympian. They seem unable to realize that their actions might have negative results in the
future.”
Efforts to minimize this mindset have helped some athletes to open up more about their mental health.
Experts advise Olympians to start conversations about mental health support well before the Games begin.
Olympians should also discuss mental health monitoring strategies before, during and after the Games. Athletes
and experts say the sporting industry has, in the last ten years, been promoting better work-life balance outside of
the game. Briana, a soccer goalkeeper, says that her team and coaches actively encourage spending quality time
with families and friends, as well as finding hobbies that feel joyful and rewarding.
32. What is the main cause for Olympic athletes’ mental breakdown
A. A sense of loss. B. The pressure of competition.
C. The media coverage. D. The audience’s attention.
33. What does the underlined word “myopic” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Unbelievable. B. All-around. C.Short-sighted. D. Unexpected.
34. What might be a good solution to the athletes’ identity crisis
A. Having higher athletic identity.
B. Developing a sense of identity outside the sport.

If you stayed up or had a bad night of sleep last night, you know it’s difficult to stay awake in class today.
Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like a lullaby (摇篮曲). 36 To keep yourself awake, some tips
are worth trying in class.
Sit in the front of the room. Why 37 Besides, you’ll be more motivated to stay awake if you know
that the teacher can see you easily. You’ll also be near the people who are more likely to participate, and the sound
of their voices might keep you awake.
38 Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. This will help if you’re tired or
discouraged by the content of the lecture, because you can ask your teacher questions to get to the bottom of the
problems. Talking will also keep you engaged and alert. It might be helpful to make a goal for yourself to answer
or ask at least 3 questions per class. 39 For example, you might say “I didn’t understand the last part of
the proof. Could you explain it again in more detail ”
Listen actively to the lesson. Active listening is a great way to force yourself to stay awake because it
requires engagement of your mind as well as your body. 40 To effectively listen to your teacher, you
should try to maintain eye contact, face the speaker, pay close attention to what the speaker is saying and ask
questions during a pause in the lecture.
A.Develop interest in the subject.
B.Participate in(参与) class activities.
C.If so, classes can be boring because you’re tired,
D.Take notes and try to catch as much information as possible.
