“When I was young, I told my mother that I would go to China to learn kung fu one day. She didn't believe it. When I got there, I immediately called her and said, ‘Mom, guess where I am; I'm at the Shaolin Temple!’,” says Max Yollando, a young man from Cte d'Ivoire. Yollando is also known as Yanming, given by his teacher at the Shaolin Temple, a Buddhist monastery where the classic “Shaolin kung fu” was born, and which today is a magnet for fans from all over the world, especially more young people who attempt to join the order.
At the time, Yollando was a student at Felix Houphouet-Boigny University in Abidjan. Motivated by his passion for Chinese culture, he enrolled in the Confucius Institute to study Chinese. In late 2016, he had the opportunity to visit the temple in Henan province on a three-month exchange. This experience defined his engagement with traditional Chinese culture. “I couldn't wait to learn. The spirit of martial arts deeply impressed me,” he says.
After returning to Cte d'Ivoire, Yanming continued to practice Chinese and study traditional Chinese culture. In July 2017, he returned to the Shaolin Temple and remained there for six years. He says the most impressive things he noticed that are rooted in Chinese culture are the love of work, respect, and recognition. “Coming to China to study made me more disciplined and hardworking. Before, I was a little lazy, but the Shaolin Temple taught me to be punctual, respectful, and grateful. I learned to rise to the occasion and update my daily routine,” he adds.
At the end of 2022, when he completed his studies at the temple, he began working at a Shaolin cultural center in Zambia, which is home to 30 orphans. They are taught traditional Chinese culture, including kung fu, as part of the curriculum. For Yollando, the purpose of studying Chinese culture was to assume the responsibility of returning to Africa to introduce Chinese values to his countrymen.

(2024浙江湖州期末)
You're incredibly excited to study abroad and to experience a new culture. You may be nervous about that because you know you'll be stepping out of your comfort zone, but that's only natural. 1
Choose the right study-abroad program. 2 You'll have to decide what program is best for you—not what program is best for your twenty closest friends in college. You can pick the program you want to do. You can also decide if you want to do a program directly through your school or through another college.
Immerse yourself in the local culture. You have chosen to study in a foreign country because you are excited about its culture and customs, and because you want to broaden your perspective on the world. 3 It might be challenging, but you should step out of the comfort zone. Taking a language class, having a class about the culture and trying some cuisine from the culture are all great learning opportunities.
Prepare for your destination city. Once you know where you'll be living, read everything you can about the city. 4 This will give you a stronger appreciation of where you're going, and of all the cool stuff you'll have to do once you get there.
5 That's right. It's called “study abroad” for a reason, which is that you will be spending half of your time either in class, or learning about the local culture through educational trips to museums, palaces, castles, and other historical sites. Don't let yourself forget how absolutely amazing it is that you get to get first-hand knowledge about a culture that fascinates you.
A.Take the opportunity to travel.
B.Don't forget to learn something.
C.This is the first and most important step.
D.If you'd like to know how to do it the right way, follow these tips.
E.Read blogs online, get travel books, and search for the history of the city.
F.However, there will come a time when you are eager to introduce your own culture to others.
G.Therefore, you should jump at every opportunity to deeply involve yourself in the new culture.

Ⅴ.读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My efforts to learn, read, write and speak English have been a significant challenge in my life. When I first came to the United States from Hong Kong about 12 years ago, I could barely communicate in English. Today, although I still have much to learn, I realize I have made a good amount of progress in my years abroad.
I grew up in a small village in China, where no one I knew spoke English. I wasn't exposed to English or any other language through books, magazines or TV. Only when I later went to study in Hong Kong, was I exposed to Western culture through movies, music and other media. Although English is common in Hong Kong due to its history, I still couldn't speak, read or write much after graduating from high school.
In my early 20s, I decided to move to New York City and I was determined to make a new life for myself there. I didn't want to end up speaking my native language but I knew that learning English was very important if I wanted to be successful in this new country. New York seemed like another world and without speaking much English it was even more difficult to make friends.
I didn't have a teacher at first, so I tried every way I could to learn the language. One way that was very useful was listening to the radio and watching TV, mostly news. I tried to speak like the people I heard on TV. They spoke more clearly and it was easier to understand than the English I heard people speaking in my neighborhood. I picked up one word at a time, and looked them up in the dictionary. I would also try to write down the words and remember them. I made a goal of learning at least 20 new words every day.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
After a while I made friends.
Thinking back on the ways I have learned English over the years, I have something to say.

One possible version:
After a while I made friends. They were another way I learned English. I would pick up a lot of cool expressions just from spending time with them and listening to them speak. My friends were patient with me and helped me a lot, but I often became discouraged. Seeing I gave up speaking English, they tried to encourage me to speak out. They often invited me to their parties where I was surrounded by an English atmosphere and I was forced to communicate with them in English.
Thinking back on the ways I have learned English over the years, I have something to say. It is clear that I am a visual learner—I learn by seeing and looking. I had the most success when reading and using written materials. I enjoyed reading books, newspapers and magazines. Of course, it is also very important to be able to speak and listen. So, I spent lots of time trying to develop these skills, like getting involved in social activities with friends. So, if I could become more and more fluent, so can you!
