Inspired by the medical bay of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek(《星际迷航》), a research team from the University of Waterloo uses radar technology to monitor people's health while at the wheel, turning an ordinary car or truck into a shifting medical center.
Dr. George Shaker, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, is working with a team of graduate students to combine radar with evolving vehicle technology to make health checks easier. The idea is to use the time people spend in their cars to gather data on their health for accurate analysis and preventative treatment—without the need for any type of wearable devices.
The radar, smaller than a USB thumb drive, is placed into the vehicle cabin and sends out signals that detect human vibrations(颤动), which are then sent back to the radar. The built-in AI system collects and analyzes the data to build a medical picture and identify any potential condition. At the end of the driver's journey, the system sends the report directly to their cellphone for review.
For Shaker and his team, the challenge was evolving the technology to identify changes in breathing patterns or heart rhythms that signify potential health issues related to cardiovascular (心血管的) conditions as well as respiratory (呼吸的) system conditions.
“We focused on enhancing data collection for exact information related to people's health issues and teaching AI how to make medical interpretations from the data. Another important consideration was personal privacy and security—no data is stored on the cloud; it is sent to the monitored person's cellphone only,” said Ali Ghara, the lead PhD student on the project.
The research team is building on this work to expand the radar technology's capabilities to monitor all vehicle occupants' overall health and well-being, run diagnostics and generate quality medical reports that flag any issue that needs attention, as well as assist with emergency communication in the event of an accident.
1.What can we learn about the radar technology
A.It combines with vehicle technology to assess the driver's health.
B.It sends the health report to the driver's phone for review.
C.It provides more accurate health data than wearables.
D.It creates medical pictures to reveal health secrets.
2.What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A.The working principle of the radar device.
B.The significance of the built-in AI system.
C.The potential health conditions of drivers.
D.The development of vehicle technology.
3.What can be inferred from Ali Ghara's words in paragraph 5
A.AI needs training to collect health data.
B.AI's interpretation of medical data is accurate.
C.Cellphones monitor personal privacy and security.
D.The team is improving data collection and analysis.
4.What does the follow-up study aim to do
A.Ensure the privacy of medical reports.
B.Warn the drivers of potential accidents.
C.Enhance health monitoring for all passengers. D.Apply the radar technology across vehicles.

Over the past few decades, technology has advanced at an unprecedented rate, revolutionizing industries and shaping new ways of life. 1
According to the International Telecommunication Union, a key advocate of technological advancement, the rapid growth of technology has significantly improved the quality of life in numerous communities. It cites studies that show the integration of technology into daily lives has led to increased efficiency, more access to information, and even progress in healthcare in numerous regions. 2
Those who embrace technological progress argue that it creates new opportunities for individuals and businesses alike. For instance, farmers in remote areas can now access real-time market information and weather updates through smartphones, enabling them to make more informed decisions about their crops. Besides, small businesses can expand their reach globally through online platforms.
3 They argue that while technology may bring benefits to some, it often expands the difference between the technologically informed and the digitally excluded. Studies conducted by organizations like the United Nations Development Programme reveal that many individuals, particularly those in developing regions or with limited resources, lag behind in accessing and utilizing technological advancements. 4
Furthermore, critics fear that the unchecked growth of technology may have severely negative impacts on society and the environment. For example, the rise of social media and the Internet has led to an increase in cyberbullying, privacy concerns, and the spread of misinformation. Moreover, the overuse of technology may contribute to do-nothing lifestyles and other health issues.
One thing is certain about technological progress—it is an inevitable (不可避免的) trend. The rapid pace of innovation and the widespread availability of technology make it impossible to turn back. 5
A.But how can we take control of technology to our advantage
B.The question arises: Is technological progress beneficial for all
C.This digital divide can lead to increased social and economic gaps.
D.However, critics of technological advancement hold a different view.

Jack was a bright and curious child, always eager to learn new things and explore the mysterious world about science. However, he often found himself in disagreement with his mother. His mother was always busy with her work and she didn't have enough time to learn about his interests and passions.
One day, Jack came home from school feeling particularly excited. He just found a sci-fi book about an adventure on the moon. Upon arriving at home, he couldn't tear himself away from the book. He read and read until it was dark. Having finished reading it, he couldn't wait to share it with his mother, only to be told that he should focus on more practical subjects like math and history, which would help him get into a good college and have a successful career.
Jack couldn't understand why his mother didn't see the value in what he was doing. He felt that she was holding him back and not allowing him to pursue his true interests. “Why can't you see how important this is to me ” Jack asked his mother angrily. “I'm never going to be happy if I have to spend my life doing things that I show no interest in just because they are practical or make you proud.”
The once peaceful home was filled with tension and anger. His mother's voice grew louder as she shouted, “You can't just do whatever you want! You should be responsible for your future!” Jack, fueled by his own frustration, shot back, “I am tired of you always telling me what to do! I am not a child anymore! You only care about your own feelings! You never thought about my feelings!” They were so caught up in their own anger and hurt that they failed to see how their words and actions were affecting each other.
Jack rushed into his bedroom and locked the door heavily.
When Jack heard his mother's words, regretful tears rolled down his face.

故选A。
根据第五段中的“We focused on enhancing data collection for exact information related to people's health issues and teaching AI how to make medical interpretations from the data.”
根据最后一段中的“The research team is building on this work to expand the radar technology's capabilities to monitor all vehicle occupants' overall health and well-being”可知,该研究团队正在此工作的基础上进一步扩展雷达技术的功能,以监测所有车辆乘员的整体健康和福祉。故选C。

2.E 根据空前句“It cites studies that...more access to information, and even progress in healthcare in numerous regions.”
上文“They argue that while technology may bring benefits to some...lag behind in accessing and utilizing technological advancements.”
5.G 上文“One thing is certain about technological progress—it is an inevitable trend.”
