On a Friday morning in April, Dan Stein, the founder of Giving Green, a climate charity organization, found some big news in a surprising email. An anonymous(匿名) donor had given his fund $10 million.
"I didn't quite expect so many zeroes and thought of it to be a mistake, " Stein said, adding he was "delighted and shocked " by the gift.
Giving Green collects donations and gives them away to a handful of nonprofits that it believes have the potential to make a significant difference in preventing climate change and reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases. The S10 million donation is by far the largest single gift the nonprofit has ever received and it essentially fell out of the sky without warning.
Stein and his team think the same donor may actually have given as much as $17 million more directly to those organizations in the last two years. Because the gifts are anonymous, it's impossible to confirm, but Stein says the timing of the gifts suggests they could have come from the same person or organization.
In general, giving anonymously is often regarded as the highest form of giving. Stein said, adding the donor thinks "I'm doing this out of a sense of creating a better community and simply believing that this money should go towards other uses rather than sitting in my pocket or my bank account. "
Stein sees the donations as evidence that there are donors who want to give to climate change but don't know where to donate. "The climate problem is an incredible generational problem and we think that we, as a society, should be doing things to stop it, "Stein said. "And that one thing that people can do is making donations. "
Stein said Giving Green intends to distribute the majority of the $10 million gift as soon as possible, with much of it going to the organizations they recommend. They' ll also direct smaller amounts to new organizations or programs within organizations that they support.
24. What was Dan Stein's reaction to the anonymous donation
A. He was indifferent. B. He thought about rejecting it.
C. He was overjoyed and couldn't believe it. D. He immediately knew who the donor was.
25. What is the main purpose of Giving Green
A. To carry out climate change researches.
B. To educate the public about climate change.
C. To set up nonprofit organizations to deal with climate change.
D. To help solve climate problems by collecting and distributions.
26. According to the text, why is anonymous giving considered the highest form of giving
A. It focuses on improving the society.
B. It makes the donation process simpler.
C. It ensures the donor gains public recognition.
D. It helps keep the donor's bank account a secret.
27. What does Stein plan to do with the donation
A. Save the majority of it for future needs.
B. Use the majority of it for marketing and promoting.
C. Distribute most of it to recommended organizations.
D. Giving most of it away to new organizations or programs.

The male western tanager (唐纳雀) looks like a little flame, while females are less showy, a dusty yellow. In the spring, they prepare to move thousands of miles to the Mountain West of Central America, flying through grasslands, deserts, and occasionally, suburban yards.
To fuel them on their lengthy journey, western tanagers fill up on insects and berries. But as global climate change causes spring to start earlier, birds such as western tanagers are arriving at their destination after what’s known as “green-up”, when flowers begin blooming and insects emerge. According to a study published in early March in the journal PNAS, this kind of timing mismatch between migrants (迁移动物) and their food sources, which is happening across North America, could have serious consequences for migratory birds’ survival. “In discussing climate change, we often focus on warming,” says Scott Loss, a co-author of the study. “But the length and timing of seasons — like when winter ends and spring begins — are some of the most dramatic effects of climate change.”
Loss and his colleagues used satellite imagery from 2002 to 2021 to calculate the average start of spring green-up along the typical migration routes of 150 North American bird species, then compared that timing with the current green-up. They found that spring is indeed beginning earlier along birds’ migration routes. “By contrary, previous studies have mainly focused on songbirds in Eastern North America,” says Morgan Tingley, an ornithologist at UCLA, “but this new investigation shows that bird species in the West and at different levels of the food web might be just as vulnerable (脆弱的).”
“Part of it is knowing which species are vulnerable to various threats,” Loss says. “This adds to the knowledge about vulnerability of a wide range of bird species.” And he hopes that the information will serve to highlight the urgent need to lower greenhouse-gas emissions as fast as possible. “It’s really important, if we can’t address climate change immediately, to try to stop habitat loss as much as we can.”
28.What may pose a direct threat to western tanagers’ survival
A.Global warming.
B.The duration of changing seasons.
C.Loss of habitats due to human activities.
D.Decreased access to foods during migration.
29.What is unique about the new study on birds like western tanagers
A.It covers a wider geographic range.
B.It reveals the decline in bird populations.
C.It centers on the adaptation of bird species.
D.It ensures the existence of a timing mismatch.
30.What does Loss suggest we do to safeguard migratory birds
A.Lessen the effects of climate change. B.Preserve ecosystems for bird species.
C.Address emissions and habitat loss. D.Expand researches on threats to birds.
31.Where is the text most likely from
A.A scientific journal. B.A bird-watching guidebook.
C.A website about climate change. D.A magazine about wildlife conservation.

Many people have a too rosy view of the beverage and are surprised when confronted with the facts about it on a nutrition label, according to our recent study.
Right now, people usually think of red wine as a “virtue” rather than a “vice”, thanks to popular belief about its health benefits. But requiring nutrition labels, which are currently voluntary, could change those views.
In our experimental research, which included nearly 800 participants, we found that American consumers aren’t used to seeing nutrition information on wine labels, and most are surprised by what they read since they don’t associate wine with calories, carbohydrates and sugar. People who were prompted to read labels viewed wine as less healthy than they did beforehand, and they were less likely to buy it.
We also found that people are more surprised by the sugar content of sweeter wines, such as Moscato, than by the number of calories. Sweet wines, in particular, may contain more sugar than consumers realize.
Nutrition labels don’t need to be bad news for the wine industry. Wine sales have recently declined among those aged 60 and younger, and greater transparency in labeling could help rekindle young consumers’ interest. Millennial and Gen Z consumers may especially appreciate clearer labels, since they could help them view wine as less mysterious and more accessible. They may also allow them to fit an occasional glass of wine into their personal health goals.
What’s more, there’s been a recent trend toward wine packaging including labels like “organic” and “sustainable”, which may appeal to consumers’ preference for sustainability. These labels have less to do with nutrition than with manufacturers trying to appear eco-friendly—but makers of natural wine would likely benefit most from offering nutrition information.
And there’s still more to learn about how nutrition labels affect behavior. Studies have shown mixed results, but on the whole, labeling appears to make people cut their calorie intake somewhat. Still, the U. S. put nutrition labels on foods in the 1990s, and that hasn’t stopped the obesity rate from rising.
32. What can be learned from the study
A. People used to regard wine as a vice.
B. Wine labeling confirms wine as a virtue.
C. Nutrition labels go against the will of the public.
D. Nutrition labels change people’s views on red wine.
33. Who might benefit most from the new trend toward wine packaging
A. Wine stores.
B. The government.
C. Mass customers.
D. Natural wine producers.
34. What do Paragraph 5 and Paragraph 6 mainly focus on
A. The benefits of wine labeling.
B. Policy changes on wine labeling.
C. The downside of wine labeling.
D. People’s attitudes toward wine labeling.
35. Why does the author mention the U. S. nutrition labels in the last paragraph
A. To show their positive effect on behavior.
B. To give an example of changes on food labels.
C. To illustrate the serious obesity problem in America.
D. To present their uncertain impact on customers’ behavior.

One click of my wooden stick, and the buffaloes (水牛) moved forward. I guided them along the road’s edge, through the heart of the village. We walked past mud homes and villagers bent over tending to their crops. We eyed the green fields, where the buffaloes could eat growing grass. This was my life in a small village in Sindh, Pakistan. We had little, but I had a big dream.
Up ahead laughter attracted my attention. A group of students came into view, their uniforms a contrast to my faded trousers and worn-out shoes. Fingers wrapped tight around my stick, I stepped forward and said sincerely, “Dear students, could you please show me your books ” The students looked from my face to my stick, to their books. They quickly opened their bags and showed me their books. Illustrations of people and places caught my imagination.
“Someday, I’ll go to school too,” I declared, returning their books. Actually, I was desperate to go to school so that I could broaden my horizons.
Months passed. Every day I rose to my chores and buffaloes. Until, one day I got my chance. My uncle came to visit. He and Father sat, drinking tea outside. “Brother, you must send Rasool Bux to school. Herding the buffaloes is not in his future,” Uncle convinced my father that all children should go to school. The following week, I was studying in primary school. Now, armed with my own books, I set out to learn everything. I read textbooks, asked questions, and even read newspapers for my father and his companions.
By the end of the year, I proved to be one of the best students in the school. I resolved to study at college or university in Karachi, a big city over 150 kilometers away. Unfortunately, I suffered from a skin condition that left white spots on my skin. The constant loss of skin color was stressful, making me feel bad about myself and even drawing attention away from my studies.

【参考范文】
The thought of not being able to finish school made me feel extremely depressed. The disease weighed heavily on me, and there was a dark moment when I even considered giving up on my dream. Thankfully, I remembered my uncle’s words, which always inspired me to face challenges bravely and strive for success. Despite the challenges posed by my skin condition, I persevered with my studies and made every effort to achieve my goal. With strong determination, I managed to secure a scholarship to pursue higher education in Karachi.
I visited my uncle after I did make it to university in Karachi. “Herding the buffaloes is not in your future. You make it.” Uncle blurted out. His eyes shone with pride as he hugged me, knowing that I had overcome numerous obstacles to fulfill my dream. “Thank you,” I replied. Reflecting on the uneasy journey, I knew that the challenges that life set before me didn’t discourage me but became stepping stones, shaping me into an adaptable and determined individual. With a heart full of gratitude and determination, I was ready to make a difference in the world.
