Various sports attract fans for different reasons: Spectator sports draw even more fans who just love to watch. Here are some of the most beloved sports worldwide.
Hockey-2 billion fans
Hockey, both on ice and on a field, wins a following of two billion enthusiastic fans worldwide. Field hockey is mainly played in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, while ice hockey is particularly popular in Canada and the US, where kids grow up playing pond hockey. Unlike ice hockey, field hockey usually does not involve body contact in the form of checking and hitting.
Football-4 billion fans
Football, better known as soccer in the US, is by far the most popular sport in the world. Experts estimate that the origin (起源) of football may go as far back as two thousand years, beginning in ancient China during the Han Dynasty. One major reason for football’s global popularity is that unlike other sports that require expensive equipment, all you need to play football is a ball and your feet.
Volleyball-900 million fans
Volleyball pits two teams across a high net, each attempting to smash the ball onto the opponent’s floor. A popular variant, beach volleyball, is competed on sand by pairs rather than the regular six players per team. The crowd appeal of beach volleyball has grown greatly in recent years.
Tennis-1 billion fans
An estimated one billion people worldwide follow professional tennis tournaments and matches. In tennis, players on both sides of a net try to hit a ball with a racket so that it either goes past their opponent (对手) or bounces twice on their opponent’s side of the court to score points. Tennis superstars like Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams are now household names around the world, with huge international fan bases.

二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共2小题)
Teenagers’ fitness is now an important concern, and physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientist Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers. First, you need to find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.
Dr. Lopez suggests that there are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. “Inactive” means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. “Active” refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high fitness level.
According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should work out to keep healthy. Ride a bike, play badminton or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories (卡路里). Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching (拉伸) exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, staring with twenty of each a day. “Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger,” Dr. Lopez said. The same rule applies to active teenagers.
Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive (高强度) exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. “These activities are really important in order to stop injuries,” Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be organized in the programme in order to increase the person’s strength.

In September, a sixth-grade class from a Chinese school began a different journey. Under the organization of the parent association, the students began a 5-kilometer morning jogging program in a park of Beijing, with the aim of improving their fitness, building self-confidence, and developing patience. Every Saturday morning, with a parent chosen as the coach to guide them, they laced up their shoes and set off.
The first run was a real challenge. After running just several hundred meters, a few students were out of breath. Some couldn’t even make it halfway, and others had to rely on each other for support to reach the finish line. However, despite the many difficulties, their determination never wavered. Along the way, many felt energetic. Most made it to the end by completing their 100th run on Saturday to celebrate their upcoming graduation, as they had been exercising regularly.
In recent years, some surveys have shown that the rate of obesity among students who are short of exercise is increasing rapidly. According to an authority report, one in five individuals aged six to seventeen is now overweight, a significant rise from one in twenty in 1995. In addition to weight problems, the lack of exercise has also led to an increase of short-sightedness in schools.
Recognizing the potential link between decreased physical activity and health-related problems, various measures have been taken to reduce students’ academic pressure and increase their exercise time, such as reducing the after-school homework burden.
The sixth-grade jogging program serves as an inspiring example, offering a solution to help students find more time to experience health, happiness, and friendship through physical activity. It shows that with dedication and support, even a simple jogging routine can have a great effect on the well-being of young students.
8.Why did the parent association organize the morning jogging program
A.To meet the parents’ requirements.
B.To live up to the coach’s expectations.
C.To improve the students’ physical and mental health.
D.To replace the school’s present physical education classes.
9.What can we learn about the students in the first run
A.Few of them felt energetic. B.Most of them gave up halfway.
C.None of them completed the run. D.Not all of them made it to the end.
10.How is the seriousness of being overweight on students shown in paragraph 3
A.Through data comparison. B.Through an unofficial report.
C.Through the schools’ prediction. D.Through individual imagination.
11.Which word can best describe the morning jogging program

Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no one to loan them the money. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with whispered desperation,“Only a miracle can save him now.”
Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar and poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Then she slipped out the back door with all her money and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store.
She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment.Tess twisted her feet to make a noise.Nothing.She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster.
No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice.“I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages,” he said without waiting for a reply to his question.
“Well,I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone.“He's really, really sick and I want to buy a miracle.” “I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist.“His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now.So how much does a miracle cost?” “We don't sell miracles here, little girl.I'm sorry but I can't help you,” the pharmacist answered impatiently.

Remember, every person is different, and what works for one might not work for another.(以下是鼓励自己热爱运动的简单技巧。记住,每个人都是不同的,对一个人有效的方法可能对另一个人无效。)”可知,这里在引出一系列的建议。因此,空处应该是一个总结性的句子,鼓励读者尝试这些方法。D项中的“tips”与开头“Here are simple tips”相呼应。所以D项“试试这些建议,看看有没有适合你的。”符合语境。故选D。
13.根据上文“Some of us love doing exercise by ourselves, while some of us are social butterflies.(我们中的一些人喜欢独自锻炼,而另一些人则是社交达人。)”以及下文“Make exercise a chance to hang out with friends.(让锻炼成为和朋友一起出去玩的机会。)”可知,上文提到有“社交达人”不喜欢独自锻炼,下文建议和朋友一起锻炼,空处需要承接上文并引出集体活动的建议。F项中的“don’t like working out alone”与上文“some of us are social butterflies”相呼应,“make it a group activity”与下文“hang out with friends”相衔接。所以F项“如果你不喜欢独自锻炼,那就把它变成一项集体活动。”符合语境。故选F。

15.根据下文“Well, that’s what the science says, but it wasn’t easy to feel that at the beginning of my exercise journey. That’s why it was super important to treat myself after a good workout.(好吧,这就是科学所说的,但在我的锻炼之旅开始时,很难感觉到这一点。这就是为什么在锻炼后善待自己非常重要。)”可知,这里在讲述锻炼后的奖励对人的心理作用。B项中的“feel-good emotions”正是锻炼的益处,引出后文。所以B项“锻炼能给你带来愉悦的情绪。”符合语境。故选B。
16.根据上文“One of the best things to start exercising is to take it easy.(开始锻炼最好的方法之一就是放轻松。)”以及“This might be one of the most important tips.(这可能是最重要的建议之一。)”可知,上文强调开始锻炼要放轻松,空处需要总结上文的建议。A项中“slow down before taking off”与上文“take it easy”相呼应,都是在强调要循序渐进。所以A项“在起飞前你必须减速。”符合语境。故选 A。

二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共2小题)
We know that fruits can help to keep our bodies healthy. According to a new study, eating fruits in middle age could also help to reduce the chances of developing depression(抑郁) later in life though we should pay attention to the amount of fruits we eat.
Researchers from China and Singapore wanted to find out more about whether eating fruits and vegetables could have an effect on our mental health. They looked at more than 13,700 Chinese adults who were living in Singapore. The study period began between 1993 and 1998 when the Chinese adults were aged between 45 and 74. Everyone was asked about the fruits and vegetables they liked to eat. 14 fruits and 25 types of vegetables were included in the questionnaire(问卷).
The Chinese adults were followed for an average of almost 20 years. By this time, they were aged between 61 and 96. They were asked to complete a questionnaire that could decide whether older people develop depression. At the end of the study period, almost 3,200 people had the feeling of depression.
The researchers found that higher consumption of fruits during middle age was connected with a lower probability of developing depression in late life. Those who ate the most fruits were 29% less likely to develop depression compared to those who ate the least. However, they didn’t find any connection between eating vegetables and developing depression.
It was suggested that the reason for this may be that fruits are usually eaten raw, while vegetables are often cooked. Cooking vegetables might limit the “protective effects” of the nutrients(营养物) in the foods, the researchers suggested, although they said more research was needed.
All types of fruits were found to have an effect, especially oranges, bananas, papayas and watermelons.
4.How is the study conducted
A.By comparing fruits to vegetables. B.By filling in the questionnaire in a lab.
C.By talking with people living in China. D.By tracking the subjects for a long time.
5.What does the underlined word “consumption” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Contact. B.Eating. C.Advancement. D.Concentration.
6.What do we know about the influence of vegetables on depression
A.Researchers have got no proof. B.They prove to be better than fruits.
C.They are the key to treating depression.
D.Cooking them surely influences mental health.
7.What might be talked about in the following paragraph
A.Why fruits could decrease depression.
B.The correct methods of cooking vegetables.
C.Different fruits recommended by the doctor.
D.How vegetables damage nutrients in the foods.
A 99-year-old Australian swimmer appears to have broken a world record for his age group in the 50 m freestyle. The likely new world record holder, George Corones, clocked 56. 12 seconds at an official event in Queensland — a new benchmark (基准) for the 100 — 104 age group. He broke the old record of 1′31″19, which was set by British swimmer John Harrison in 2014, by 35 seconds. It will now be recognized by the sport’s governing body.
Corones, who was upset for Harrison’s record because he would turn 100 in April, said he was “quite pleased” and “over the world” by the result. He said he had been flooded by the “cheering crowd on the Gold Coast on Wednesday”. The event, in which he was the only new member, had been specially staged for him to challenge the record.
Corones was a good swimmer in his youth but only began to learn swimming again at the age of 80. He gave it up at the beginning of the World War II, and he didn’t think he would have a swim of any description until he retired (退休). Then he started swimming again for exercise.
Racing undeniably (不可否认的) challenged him physically, but it was manageable with preparation. On average he swims three times a week, and also fits in gyms. “At this age it takes a while to get going… you get tired much more easily. But if you do it properly, the rewards (回报) are huge,” he said.
Corones will challenge the 100 m freestyle record on Saturday night, believing he can beat the present mark of 03′23″10, which was also set by Harrison.
“I’m not a young man by any means, but I am greatly looking forward to it and confident I can do it very well,” he said.
8.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 1
A.Stress the importance of age. B.Lead in the topic of the text.
C.Show the main idea of the text. D.Tell who John Harrison is.
9.How did Corones feel about his record
A.Amazed. B.Honourable. C.Excited. D.Tired.
10.When did Corones begin to learn swimming again
A.In his childhood. B.At the age of 80.
C.During the World War Ⅱ. D.At the age of up to 100.
11.What can we conclude from the text
A.It’s never too late to learn.
B.Do well and have well.
C.He who laughs last laughs best.
D.Everything’s hard in the beginning.

On May 17th, the men’s 400m freestyle final at the 2025 National Swimming Championships in Shenzhen delivered an electrifying clash (令人激动的交锋) of generations on Saturday, as 20-year-old world record holder Pan Zhanle clocking 3:45.34 22 (claim) gold, edging out his childhood hero, 33-year-old Olympic champion Sun Yang, who secured bronze. 七、读后续写(本大题共1小题)
33.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own efforts. I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program. The school took part in the league matches every year. However, it never ended well. We were more of the audience, watching and cheering instead of sweating out in the fields.
Fortunately, the school held the tradition that the school’s old team was to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. For lack of resources, the old team bad no coach, and they didn’t even practice to prepare for the game.
I was assigned (指派) as the coach of the new team, which was why I was excited. I believed that we were going to win, but to my disappointment, we were defeated. I couldn’t believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I tried to figure out the reason and what I should do next.
It didn’t take long before I came to realize that my team was depending on me. Without proper guidance or previous experience, my team was at a loss what to do. I had to change my attitude so that I could bring out the best in them about their ability and potential.
I would let my action do the talking. First, I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. I could see their spirits lifted, with their head held high in great confidence. Most importantly, I began to treat them like winners. Only when they regarded themselves as winners could they willingly invest time and energy.
This summer, the other teams enjoyed their vacations.

9.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Corones, who was upset for Harrison’s record because he would turn 100 in April, said he was “quite pleased” and “over the world” by the result.( Corones因自己将于4月年满100岁,一直对Harrison的纪录感到不服气。他表示对这一结果“相当满意”,简直“欣喜若狂”。)”可知,Corones对这个结果“相当满意”,“欣喜若狂”,这体现出他兴奋的心情。故选C。

七、读后续写
33.【答案】
This summer, the other teams enjoyed their vacations. We met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football. At first, some complained that even the hardest practice couldn't change the fact that they were the last. The whole team was covered by the sense of depression and failure. What I could do at that time was to company them and try to cheer them up. Encouraged by my persistence, the team gathered the spirit of trying again and practiced even harder. This time, we sweated out in the fields instead of being the audience, watching and cheering. Every inch of the field has seen the effort of my team.
Six months later, football season started. After suffering our failure on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve. Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt that it would be a victory for us even if we lost the game. But that wasn't what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me one of the greatest thrills of my life! From the game I learned a lot about how the attitude of the leader can influence the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves differently, and they built themselves into winners. Winners are made, not born.

In modern society, the pursuit of weight loss has become a widely accepted trend. Many people, especially the younger generation, are eager to get rid of extra pounds to achieve what they consider a more attractive appearance or a healthier body.
Proper weight loss can indeed bring certain benefits. Obesity (肥胖) is a growing health concern, which can lead to various health problems such as heart disease and certain types of cancer: Aècording to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide. Therefore, reducing weight is essential to improve overall health and reduce the risk of these life-threatening diseases.
However, the attraction to weight loss has also given rise to some negative results. With public figures speaking about new diets that have helped them become slim in advertisement, more and more people are turning to dieting. Some shops begin to sell diet products such as diet milkshakes, snack bars and even diet pills.
Most of these popular diets work by cutting down on a certain nutrient (营养物) from your food intake, such as carbohydrates (碳水化合物), which means the body must use its fat reserves for energy. In fact, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals all play an important role in staying healthy, which is why they all should be included in your meals. If cutting a particular food group out of your diet, you are starving your body of a nutrient that it needs, which could leave you feeling weak, tired or even bad-tempered. You may even experience nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and even psychological (心理的) disorders like anorexia nervosa.
While weight loss can be a worthy goal if done in a healthy and sustainable way, we should be cautious of the potential dangers. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and a positive attitude towards our body image are the keys to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. We should not sacrifice our well-being for the sake of conforming to a certain beauty standard. Instead, we should focus on overall health and happiness.
1.The author mentions WHO mainly to ______.
A.highlight the need to lose weight for the obese people
B.predict many people will die of life-threatening diseases
C.show young generation’s way of reducing weight is proper
D.introduce the risks brought by heart disease and certain cancer
2.As for weight loss, the author thinks ______.
A.obesity is a major factor leading to psychological disorders
B.cutting down carbohydrates is a good way for most people
C.public figures play an important role in advertising diet pills
D.a balanced diet is one key to achieving a healthy weight
3.Which would be the best title for this article
A.Weight Loss: Beyond Appearance to True Health
B.Weight Loss: From Obesity to Slim
C.Weight Loss out of Diet Products
D.Weight Loss in a Trendy World
二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共2小题)
Needles, though essential for delivering many vital medicines, are not popular among patients. Many people experience discomfort or anxiety at the sight of a needle, making injections (注射) an unpleasant experience. Now, new research led by Giovanni Traverso at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers a way to give medicine without this discomfort—by copying how squids (鱿鱼) shoot ink and water.
Dr. Traverso’s tiny automated injectors are packaged in capsules that patients can swallow. Once inside the digestive system, the capsules break down, releasing the injectors, which then deliver drugs through the surface layer of stomach or other digestive organs and into the subsurface tissues below. This method allows patients to receive treatment without seeing or feeling a needle.
Although the technique is promising, it is not yet entirely reliable. For an injector to work effectively, it must be positioned almost perfectly upright against the target tissue. With skin injections, a medical professional can adjust the angle by hand, but inside the digestive system, this is much more difficult.
To solve this problem, Dr. Traver so turned to squids, which can shoot ink and water at high pressure in multiple directions. Inspired by this natural ability, he and his team worked with a medical company to develop tiny spring-loaded devices that release fast streams of medicine when activated. Tests on digestive tissues from pigs and dogs showed that the devices can effectively give injections even at angles below 70°.
While human trials have yet to begin, Dr. Traver so hopes the technology will soon help people with diabetes, a disease that requires the patients to get multiple injections daily. A more convenient delivery system could make treatment easier and less stressful. But the potential applications extend beyond diabetes—similar devices may one day be used to administer vaccines, making immunization (免疫接种) more accessible. If all goes well, fear of needles could become a thing of the past.
4.What can we learn about the new injectors from the first two paragraphs
A.They are made from squid ink. B.They are invisible to human eyes.
C.They enjoy popularity among patients. D.They operate within the digestive system.
5.What challenge does Traverso’s technique face
A.Keeping the injector at a correct angle. B.Finding a proper site for drug delivery.
C.Having reliable medical professionals. D.Accessing the deep digestive system.
6.What can we infer about the technology from the last paragraph
A.It proves effective in human trials. B.It may cure people of needle anxiety.
C.It shows promises for future applications. D.It will reduce the cost of diabetes treatment.
7.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.The Secret of Squid Ink Shooting B.Painless Injection: A Gift from Squid
C.Nature: A Guide for Medical Innovation D.The Development of Injection Techniques
Just off the Florida Keys lies the world’s third-largest coral reef (珊瑚礁), which was once an energetic habitat for millions of plants and animals. But an outbreak of stony coral tissue loss disease threatens to destroy 20 of the 45 species found there, including larger reef-building corals.
“This disease that is burning through the Florida Keys is an unbelievable event that is happening,” said Andrew Stamper, conservation science manager at Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment. “It’s like a wildfire.” Stamper said that would endanger Florida’s fishing industry and food supply. “Unfortunately, we do not know exactly what is causing this,” he said.
In order to save the reef, scientists have moved some species hundreds of miles away to a lab in Orlando. Scientists work to simulate breeding (繁殖) conditions in the lab. The conditions are exactly the same as the living conditions of the coral. The work needs a lot of care, effort and attention to detail. LED lights exactly copy the sun and moon cycles. Volunteers feed the coral in water treated to mimic its real habitat.
“This essentially is a gene bank,” said Jim Kinsler, leader of SeaWorld Orlando. “We’re trying to protect the genetics of these corals so that their offspring(后代)can eventually be returned back to the Florida reef area.”
The task of relocating the lab-grown coral to the sea is also a detailed task. Kinsler, who is part of a team of private and public partners operating the Florida Coral Rescue Center, said, “It’s the first time that many of them have been involved in rescuing an entire ecosystem,”
“We think the real challenge is just growing them out to a size, so we can test them in those waters, test their disease resistance (抵抗力), and then breed the successful corals by the hundreds of thousands literally,” said Andrew Walker, president of the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.
8.What do we know about the Florida Keys
A.It owns the world’s largest coral reef.
B.A disease broke out among people there.
C.The world’s third-largest coral reef is close to it.
D.It is now the habitat of millions of plants and animals.
9.What do Andrew Stamper’s words mean
A.The root of the disease is unclear.
B.A wildfire broke out in the Florida Keys.
C.The disease will spread across the Earth.
D.The disease has caused a great loss to the locals.
10.What does the underlined word “simulate” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Copy. B.Contrast. C.Escape. D.Feature.
11.What is the purpose of the research according to Andrew Walker
A.To restore the coral in the lab.
B.To sell the coral in the normal size.
C.To make more people involved in protecting the ecosystem.
D.To produce masses of disease-resistant coral back to the sea.
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
What is the best sleep position for your health
It’s difficult to control what sleeping position we naturally fall into, as our body will subconsciously fall into the most comfortable position for us. However, some positions are better for you than others and some could hold back your health and wellbeing. 12
If you sleep on your side
More than 60 per cent of people sleep on their side. Often our body naturally moves to this position, which is linked to when we were in the womb in the foetal (胎儿的) position. 13 It offers a number of benefits to your body, from promoting healthy spine alignment (脊椎对齐) which can help to prevent back pain to reducing heartburn and snoring (打鼾).
If you sleep on your back
Lying on your back is the second most popular sleeping position and offers just as many benefits as side sleeping. When you’re sleeping on your back, it’s easy to keep alignment and to also evenly distribute your weight. 14
If you sleep on your stomach
Sleeping on your stomach is the least common sleeping position. 15 And those who sleep on their stomach could put themselves at risk of a less restful night’s sleep. The stomach offers the least amount of back support and can increase pressure on the spine which may cause pain once you wake up.
16 You should consider various factors such as if you snore or suffer sleep problems, or if you often have back and neck pain. Side sleeping has been noted as the best position for the body, so this is probably one to try and get into the habit of trying, but again, it all depends on you.
【选项】
A.This also helps to prevent any neck and back pain.
B.Sleeping on your side is probably the best position.
C.Side sleeping would be particularly beneficial for older people.
D.There are more negatives to this position compared to positives.
E.Determining the sleeping position for you is personal preference.
F.Here, this article reveals exactly how your sleep position is affecting your health.
G.This is mostly likely because it is one of the most comfortable sleeping positions.

七、读后续写(本大题共1小题)
38.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I was excited to participated in my first summer camp and curious to know who I would meet and make friends with. I knew deep down in my heart it would be a wonderful experience.
The first day were tests to see what level swimmers were in the pool and a treasure hunt to help us learn our way around the campground. Our second day was extremely hot, so one of the camp counselors took us to the best place for cooling down.“Woo-hoo!“ the counselor shouted as he led the way into the shallow part of the lake. We all ran after him like a bunch of ducklings and happily splashed around. Well, all of us except for one kid named Max, who sat on the dock looking the opposite of us.
That was a surprising thing to me. The day before, when we took tests to see what level swimmers we were in the pool, Max turned out to be the most advanced level possible. Not just in one thing, but in everything: sidestroke, backstroke, the crawl, breaststroke, holding breath underwater. Max was, no question, the very best swimmer at camp.“So why was he sitting miserably ”
I swam over and said,“I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m wondering why you’ re not in the water. After all, we found out yesterday that you’re kind of a half fish.“ “OK, I’ll tell you, but it’s a little embarrassing.” he said,“Even though I’m kind of a half fish, I’ m afraid of real fish and of anything else that might be swimming in the murky water. I swim only in clear swimming pools. I’ve never actually gone in a lake.“
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已写好。
Paragraph 1:
“Don t be embarrassed.”I said kindly.
Paragraph 2:
“I’ll go first, and then you follow me to go under water.” I waved to Max.

Modern science suggests that a healthy lifestyle matters much to how long you can live and how well you live. Here are some tips for you to form a healthy lifestyle.
Keep a scientific diet. Keep in mind that sugar can be removed from our diet completely. Over intake of sugar is one of the main reasons for getting fat. Like rain to crops, not the more the better.
Be always in a good mood. There is a relationship between the mood and health. A good mood keeps you in high spirits. Thanks to the Internet, we can enjoy and learn much without going out. Take a look at some online shops and pick up some bargains, enjoy music and movies and chat with good friends. Just keep happy.
Enough sleep. Two studies show the reasons why teens and adults don’t have enough sleep. With teens, a major reason is mobile phone use; with adults, it’s work. Meanwhile, a third study of young children shows that lack of sleep in early life may lead to serious problems in future. Everyone needs at least 8-hour sleep to recover from tiredness and the hurt caused by hard work in the daytime.
Proper exercise. Do exercise to keep away from fatness. Because of the quick pace of the modern life, you don’t have time to do exercise every day, but at least three times a week and 45 minutes each time.

二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共2小题)
The crowd holds its breath. High above them on the climbing wall, hanging upside down by the tips of two fingers, is the French climber Francois Lombard. He is competing in the World Cup Climbing Championships at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.
The National Indoor Arena is more famous for staging the TV show Gladiators, but the television programme and the World Cup Climbing Championships share at least one feature—The Wall. And the fact that either event is possible is the result of a new and rapidly developing technology.
Until the mid-1960s, climbers practised their skills on cliffs in areas where there was a plentiful supply of good climbing angles. During the winter they would either put up with the cold weather, go walking instead or climb on snow and ice in Scotland.
However, as the sport developed it was increasingly important for top climbers to keep fit. With the cliffs unusable for much of the year, they used brick-edges or stone buildings to ‘work out’ on. This allowed them to keep their fingers strong, and beat off the boredom of not being able to climb. It wasn’t long before many sports centres started building walls specifically for the task, using bricks with special edges to cling on to.
Many of these early walls followed the example set by Don Robinson, a teacher of physical education who ,during the mid- 1960s, constructed a climbing wall in a corridor of his department at Leeds University. Robinson developed the idea of setting natural rock in a block of concrete, which could then be included in a wall.
Scores of climbing walls of this kind were built in sports halls up and down the country throughout the 1970s but they had obvious design problems. Walls could only be built in a vertical plane (垂直面), while cliffs outside have features like overhangs and angled slabs (石板) of rock. There was the added problem that once the walls were up their patterns were fixed and climbers would eventually tire of their repetitive nature, despite thinking of every combination of holds possible.
In 1985, a Frenchman, Francois Savigny, developed a material which he made into shapes like those that climbers would find on the cliffs. These could be fixed onto any existing wall and then taken off when climbers got bored with a particular combination.
4.What can be learned about the climbers before the mid-1960s
A.They relied on stone buildings for practice.
B.They found no place for training in the winter.
C.They practised their skills in a natural environment.
D.They were dissatisfied with their training equipment.
5.The phrase “cling on to” (in paragraph 4) is closest in meaning to “_________”.
A.hold firmly B.adapt to C.take a close look at D.keep away from
6.What problem did the climbing walls developed by Don Robinson have
A.They were a great drain on climbers’ energy.
B.They looked too much like natural cliffs.
C.They were not secure enough.
D.They could not be altered.
7.According to the passage, the material developed by Francois Savigny enabled climbing walls to become more _________.
A.challenging B.flexible C.popular D.stable
In the classic movie The Mighty Ducks, a group of ice hockey players band together, get better, and eventually win. That’s the dream of players on losing teams. But for many kids’ sports teams, it doesn’t. There is no winning, no victory cheers.
Most people don’t like losing, with the discouraging record of the scoreboard, watching while the other team’s players throw victorious hands in the air. Parents adjust complex family schedules for seemingly countless practices, then wonder what it’s all for when their child’s team never comes home a winner. So is losing all the time really good for children It can be. Experts agree that losing at sports, no matter how unending, can allow children to learn from failure. Losing all the time builds philosophy, friendship, sportsmanship, and the idea of athletics as a series of increasing victories. The team may struggle, but teammates improve moment by moment.
Milt Shapiro, who lives in Washington, coaches a team that lost “by football scores”. He doesn’t worry if a player cries, even though tears upset parents. “I love the fact that he’s crying, which means he cares and he’s passionate. We will change that into something we can use on the field. I would focus on small victories within each game,” he says.
Sports psychologist Caroline Silby, who practices in the Washington area, says in an email that the real problem with losing all the time lies with the parents. Trying to make children win all the time can be harmful. Also, losing is not such a big deal that it should be covered up. If parents don’t speak about games—or seasons—that ended badly, children may think that means that failure is so awful that they shouldn’t even talk about it.
Also, Silby says, if parents get angry, blame unskilled players, or talk endlessly about a loss, they ruin the whole point of being on a team: a sense of belonging. Athletes who have that feeling that they are connected to something larger than themselves-are less stressed and have higher self-esteem. And overall, she says, losing seasons can give athletes some perspective and help them grow better at managing frustration and doubt.
8.What’s the experts’ opinion about children’s losing at sports
A.It exercises parents’ patience. B.It’s beneficial to kids’ growth.
C.It makes a team less competitive. D.It leads to children’s short-lived emotion.
9.How does Milt Shapiro react to his team’s loss
A.He changes their training plans. B.He gets angry with his students.
C.He comforts players with small gifts. D.He treats it as a learning opportunity.
10.What does Caroline Silby advise parents to do
A.Hide kids’ losing properly. B.Put more effort into kids’ training.
C.Encourage kids to face failure directly. D.Draw kids’ attention to things beyond games.
11.What would be the best title for the text
A.How Do Kids React to Losing at Sports

C.How Can Losing at Sports Be Good for Kids
D.How Should Coaches Respond to Children’s Losing

二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共2小题)
Cortisol (皮质醇), often referred to as the “stress hormone (激素),” plays a crucial role in managing our body’s stress response. Recent discussions on platforms like TikTok have contributed to a widespread misinterpretation that imbalances in cortisol levels are directly responsible for a range of health problems, such as loose skin, sleep disturbances, and digestive issues. As highlighted by experts like Martin Picard from Columbia University, the relationship between cortisol levels and various physical symptoms is complex and not entirely straightforward.
Cortisol is released by the adrenal glands in response to various stressors, whether they are psychological, such as receiving an unsettling work email, or physical, like encountering a bear during a hike. This hormone helps in regulating energy supply and metabolism (新陈代谢), with its levels typically peaking in the early morning and decreasing as the day progresses. However, long-term stress can disturb this natural rhythm, resulting in continuously high cortisol levels. Such sustained high levels of cortisol can have adverse effects on health, including a weakened immune system, high blood sugar levels, and mental health issues such as depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In severe cases, too much cortisol production can lead to Cushing’s syndrome, a condition that causes significant physical changes and requires medical treatment.
Given the dynamic nature of cortisol, assessing cortisol-related problems accurately often requires professional evaluation. Home testing for cortisol may not produce reliable results, emphasizing the need for consultation with healthcare professionals for a comprehensive assessment. While managing cortisol levels effectively does not involve a single universal solution, research has shown that practices such as yoga, mindfulness, and moderate exercise can be beneficial in regulating the body’s stress response. These activities not only help in reducing immediate stress but also contribute to training the body to handle stress more efficiently over time.
In summary, while cortisol plays a key part in how our body manages stress and overall functioning, linking many health issues only to cortisol imbalances overlooks the complex interplay between hormones, stress, and health. Adopting a holistic approach to health, which includes seeking professional advice and developing personalized stress management strategies, is crucial for maintaining well-being.
4.What can we know about cortisol
A.Its level always remains stable.
B.It has no impact on physical well-being.
C.It is directly responsible for sleep disorders.
D.Its role has been wrongly interpreted on TikTok.
5.What can be inferred from Paragraph 3

C.Home testing for cortisol is highly recommended.
D.Measuring cortisol accurately involves medical tests.
6.What does the underlined word “holistic” mean in the last paragraph

The final event in the Olympics is the marathon. It is also usually the most exciting. As the leader comes into the stadium to run the last few meters of the 42-kilometre race, the crowd rises to its feet to shout and cheer. The name of the race comes from a battle in Ancient Greece. According to the story, a soldier ran from the scene of the battle, Marathon, to Athens, to bring the news of a Greek victory against the Persians. He died just after arriving.
The marathon has been an Olympic event since the modern games started in 1896. At first the distance was 40 kilometers — the distance between Marathon and Athens. In 1908, however, at the London Olympics, it was changed. The King of England wanted the runners to leave from his castle in Windsor and arrive in a new stadium in central London. The distance was 26 miles — about 42 kilometers. In fact, the 1908 marathon ended dramatically(戏剧性地). When the leader, an Italian, entered the stadium he turned the wrong way and fell onto the ground. Officials picked him up and helped him to the finishing line, just as the second runner, an American, entered the stadium. The Americans protested and in the end the American runner was declared the winner. Since then, there have been many more exciting marathons.
In fact, you don’t have to wait for the Olympic Games to run or watch a marathon, as there are marathons in over sixty countries and hundreds of cities around the world today. One of the most famous marathons is in New York, and is watched by two million people around the streets and across the bridges of the city’s five boroughs(纽约市的行政区), and past New York’s famous landmarks. But perhaps one of the most beautiful and extraordinary(最特别的) marathons ever is the Great Wall Marathon, which most competitors find is the toughest course to run.
The marathon is the final Olympic event because it is thought to be the hardest. But experts believe that most people — even people who are not particularly good at sport — can run a marathon, if they train for it.
8.When the leader came into the stadium, the crowd ____.
A.ran to his feet happily B.shouted with excitement
C.carried him to the line D.sang and danced
9.What’s the underlined word in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Supported. B.Defended. C.Debated. D.Resisted.
10.Which is the most special of the marathon events in the world
A.The Marathon in New York. B.The Marathon in the Beijing Olympic Games.
C.The Great Wall Marathon. D.The Marathon in London in 2012.
11.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.Marathon is the most important event. B.Marathon is the most popular event.
C.Marathon is the hardest event. D.Marathon is the final Olympic event.

【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章通过解释皮质醇在人体中的作用,以及其与各种健康问题之间的复杂关系,向读者普及了关于皮质醇的科学知识。
【详解】4.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Recent discussions on platforms like TikTok have contributed to a widespread misinterpretation that imbalances in cortisol levels are directly responsible for a range of health problems, such as loose skin, sleep disturbances, and digestive issues.(近期,TikTok等平台上的讨论导致了一种广泛的误解,即皮质醇水平失衡是导致一系列健康问题(如皮肤松弛、睡眠障碍和消化问题)的直接原因。)”可知,皮质醇在TikTok上被错误解读为是多种健康问题的直接原因,也就是说TikTok等平台上的讨论导致了对皮质醇的广泛误解。故选D。
5.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Given the dynamic nature of cortisol, assessing cortisol-related problems accurately often requires professional evaluation. Home testing for cortisol may not produce reliable results, emphasizing the need for consultation with healthcare professionals for a comprehensive assessment. While managing cortisol levels effectively does not involve a single universal solution, research has shown that practices such as yoga, mindfulness, and moderate exercise can be beneficial in regulating the body’s stress response.(鉴于皮质醇的动态特性,准确评估皮质醇相关问题通常需要专业评估。
故选A。

10.细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句“But perhaps one of the most beautiful and extraordinary(最特别的) marathons ever is the Great Wall Marathon, which most competitors find is the toughest course to run.(但长城马拉松可能是有史以来最美丽、最非凡的马拉松之一,大多数参赛者认为这是最难跑的赛道。)”可知,最特别的马拉松比赛是长城马拉松。故选C项。

七、读后续写
38.【答案】
Reaching down, I touched its feather, my heart racing.I could see there was a shiny red hook pierced in its body, and fishing line was wrapped tightly around its neck.I returned to the shore and came back with a tiny pair of scissors we used for snipping off the end of fishing line.“You have to hold it, Jacob. If it struggles, the hook would kill it.” When I bent down to pick up the loon, my hands were shaking, afraid that it might attack me with its beak. But the loon was silent and still.
“Hurry, Dad! I can't hold this bird forever, you know!” I said.Using the scissors, Dad cut away the fishing line from around the loon's neck. Then, slowly but steadily, his fingers worked to loosen the hook from the bird's flesh and finally he set the loon free. I patted the loon's head, a gesture of gratitude that it hadn't used its beak as a weapon.Never would I forget the scene, when that family of loons flapped and quickened their way back up into the sky.
