The Japanese Tea Ceremony, known as “Chanoyu” or “Sado” in Japanese, is a traditional cultural practice that deeply originates from Japanese history. Its origins can be traced back to the 9th century when tea was first introduced to Japan from China. At that time, tea was mainly used for medicinal purposes and was only accessible to the high-ranking individuals and religious figures.
In the 15th century, the tea ceremony began to take on its unique form and philosophy. Sen no Rikyu, a famous tea master, played an important role in shaping the modern tea ceremony. He stressed the rules of “wa: harmony, kei: respect, sei: purity, jaku: tranquility” in the tea ceremony. These principles guide every aspect of the ceremony, from the way the tea room is decorated to the gestures and words of the participants.
A typical Japanese tea ceremony takes place in a specially designed tea room, or “chashitsu.” The room is usually simple and elegant, with a tokonoma (alcove) displaying a seasonal flower arrangement or a scroll painting. The host carefully prepares the matcha (powdered green tea) using a bamboo whisk, a bowl, and hot water. Guests are served the tea in a specific order, and they follow a set of manners when receiving and drinking the tea.
The tea ceremony is not just about drinking tea; it is a form of art that combines elements of aesthetics (美学) , the way to treat guests, and spirituality. It provides a moment of peace and reflection in the middle of a busy life. Through the ceremony, participants can experience a sense of connection with nature, history, and each other.
Even in modern Japan, the tea ceremony remains a significant part of cultural heritage. Many people, both Japanese and foreigners, study and practice the tea ceremony to learn about Japanese traditions and values. A New Season
Marking autumn’s arrival is a chance to reconnect with the rhythms (节奏) of the Earth and focus on change and growth. Here are some ways to celebrate the season.
Pick what you plant. Perhaps you’d like to grow food in your vegetable garden or window box that’s ready to be picked at a later time! 9 But be sure to get advice on what’s safe to eat!

11 In many areas of the country, autumn proves to be a good time of year to take a walk and enjoy the changing colours of the trees. Some places like Mount Macedon in Victoria, Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains area, and the New South Wales Southern Highlands, are famous for their unique trees.
Clear up. During the cooler months, you’re likely to spend more time indoors. 12 Have a clear-out, tidy your bedroom, and ask your parents if you can give away any unwanted things to the poor.
Give thanks. Take a moment to appreciate all that the Earth provides. 13 Even a quick clean-up of litter or starting a small, environmentally friendly habit can make a difference. As well as expressing gratitude for the season, consider what else you feel glad to have in your life. Give thanks for your friendships, experiences, and other things you value. MY AMAZING NAADAM EXPERIENCE
I experienced the Naadam Festival in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for the first time this year. The festival falls on the fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, usually lasting for three days. Naadam means “games” in Mongolian, and it is represented by three events: horse racing, wrestling, and archery, which are all so exciting to watch!
On the first day, I set off to the games early with my friend Burin. I saw a lot of people wearing fancy Mongolian robes. Some were feeding their horses, some were practising archery, and others were chatting or taking photographs. Burin told me that Mongolians travel every year from near and far to attend the festival, just as their ancestors had done for centuries.
After the opening ceremony and some amazing performances, the wrestling competition began. Mongolian wrestling is different from the wrestling in the Olympic Games. There are no rounds, and wrestlers are not separated by weight. The wrestler loses if any part of his body above his knee touches the ground. After singing some songs, the competitors danced onto the green field, waving their arms in the air as if they were eagles. I was quite moved by their show of strength and grace.
l absolutely enjoyed the archery, too, but the horse races were my favourite part. However, I was surprised to see that the riders were boys and girls! I heard it is because children are lighter and the horses can run faster and farther. At first, I was a little worried about the children’s safety, but Burin said, “Don’t worry. They’ve been riding horses all their lives. They’ll be just fine.” That was the moment I started to understand why people say “Horses are at the heart of Mongolian culture”. ...
I’m finally back home now, feeling really tired, but celebrating Naadam with my friend was totally worth it. He invited me back for the winter to stay in a traditional Mongolian tent and eat hot pot. I can’t wait!

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE FESTIVALS
Festivals are celebrated all around the world. They have a wide range of origins, such as the seasons of the year, religions, famous figures, and important events. Every festival has its different customs and unique charms. However, no matter how different they may seem, all over the world, the spirit of sharing joy, gratitude, love, or peace is common in all festivals.
Of all the traditional festivals, the harvest festival can be found in almost every culture. This important agricultural festival takes place after all the crops have been gathered in. People celebrate to show that they are grateful for the year’s supply of food. In ancient Egypt, the harvest festival was celebrated during the springtime — the Egyptian harvest season. It featured a parade and a great feast with music, dancing, and sports. Today, in some European countries, people decorate churches and town halls with flowers and fruit, and get together to celebrate over a meal. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, families gather to admire the shining moon and enjoy delicious mooncakes.
Customs play a significant role in festivals, but sometimes they can change over time. With the development of modern society and the spread of new ideas, some traditions may fade away and others may be established. One example is the typical Chinese Spring Festival custom of lighting firecrackers to drive away the evil spirits and celebrate the new year. Nowadays, many big cities have given up this custom in order to avoid air pollution. Another example is Halloween, which slowly became an exciting festival for children, in spite of its religious origins.
Festivals are becoming more and more commercial, with business taking advantage of the celebrations Online shopping websites and social media apps have made it much easier for the public to spend more on gifts for their loved ones. Although some believe festivals should not be commercialised, others believe the increase in spending is good for the economy and public happiness.
Festivals are an important part of society. They reflect people’s wishes, beliefs, faiths, and attitudes towards life. They are occasions that allow us to relax and enjoy life, and forget about our work for a little while. They help us understand where we came from, who we are, and what to appreciate. And if you study festivals carefully, you may be surprised to find that different cultures actually have a lot in common after all.

My sons, aged 12 and 14, are lucky enough to have been skiing in the French Alps most years since they were young. And if you asked them, or my husband and I, for that 57 , we’d all say these winter trips have been our most 58 times as a family.

But these winter trips to the French Alps are about far more than just the skiing. They’re about 69 together on chairlifts in the sunshine, gazing the breathtaking scenery of the mountains, and the 70 of diving into snow-covered mountain huts for hot chocolates during blizzards.
It’s fair to say we’ve never once been 71 by a ski holiday in the French Alps. So, for now, the only question is: “Which resort are we going to ”

This is the first time I have spent the Naadam Festival with my friend Burin in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region this year. The festival, 117 (represent) by horse racing, wrestling and archery, falls on the fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, 118 usually lasts for three days.
Of the three events, two have left a deep impression 119 me: wrestling and horse racing. Mongolian wrestling is different from 120 in the Olympic Games. There are no 121 (round ) and wrestlers are not separated by weight. The wrestler loses if any part of his body above his knee touches the ground. As for horseracing, it was 122 (amaze) to see that the riders were boys and girls. That is because children are much 123 (light) and the horses can run faster and farther. There is no need to worry about their safety, for they 124 (ride) horses all their lives. It is no wonder that people say "Horses are at 125 heart of Mongolian culture".
Though I am tired now, celebrating Naadam with my friend was 126 (total) worth it.
课文语法填空
Festivals have a variety of origins, such as the seasons of the year, famous figures, important events and religions. However, no matter 127 different they may seem, they have the common spirit of sharing joy, gratitude, love or peace.
The harvest festival, one of the most popular festivals, 128 (celebrate) in many cultures. People celebrate it to show that they are grateful 129 the year’s supply of food. In some European countries, people decorate churches 130 townhalls with flowers and fruit. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, families get together 131 (admire) the shining moon and enjoy delicious mooncakes.
Customs play a significant role in festivals, but they can change over time. Take the Chinese Spring Festival as 132 example. Many big cities no longer allow lighting firecrackers to avoid air 133 (pollute ). These days, festivals are becoming more and more commercial with businesses 134 (take) advantage of the celebrations.
Festivals reflect people’s wishes, beliefs, faiths and 135 (attitude) towards life. If you study festivals 136 (careful), you may find different cultures have a lot in common after all.

And down by the sea, the roar of the ocean waves and cries of the seabirds make up the music of the coast. On a quiet morning in the mountains, feel the sun on your skin, 142 breathe in the sweet scent of fresh flowers while birds greet the new day with their morning song.
With all this beauty, 143 is not surprising that Ireland has developed strong traditions that include music, dancing and dining. You can stop by a village pub to get some 144 (relax) with a glass of wine or a local beer. 145 (good) yet, enjoy a delicious traditional Irish Beef Stew. If you’re lucky, you might be able to enjoy some traditional dancing, too. And if you’re introduced to a friendly face, you are more than likely 146 (experience) local culture and customs first-hand.

Chinese New Year has been welcomed in Britain with its biggest ever program of event sand celebrations.
From London’s Trafalgar Square to major cities across Britain, tens of thousands of British people have joined Chinese communities to celebrate the arrival of the New Year.
