Self-driving cars are believed to be the future of panies including Toyota, Uber and Google are all competing to be the first to bring them to market.
However, car makers need to solve one problem first: How driverless cars communicate with passers-by, bikers and other drivers. Most drivers today use gestures to show their purposes. They wave a car into a lane(车道), or nod at passers-by and cyclists, to let them cross the street. But self-driving cars don’t have this ability. What can they do US carmaker Ford and its partner Virginia Tech think they have the answer, reported Business Insider. The team is testing a method that uses light signals to show what self-driving cars are doing. For example, if a driverless car is yielding, it could flash two white lights side to side. A solid white light tells there are no humans in the car. A slow blinking light shows the car is coming to a stop. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up. To test the method on real roads, the team designed a special suit that looks exactly like a car seat. When a driver wears it, it appears to people that the car is really driverless. The team then successfully got more than 1,500 hours of data after about 2,900 kilometres of “self-driving” through busy cities. The data recorded how people interacted with a driverless vehicle. Ford says they plan to share the data with 11 other companies, reported . The company wants to work with other carmakers to design a signaling system that would be understood by all.

Dear Kate,
My first stop in London was Buckingham Palace. Kings and queens and their families have lived in Buckingham Palace since 1837. Queen Victoria made Buckingham Palace her home in 1837. But it was not big enough for all her guests. More importantly, it was not big enough for all the children she planned to have, so she made the palace bigger and bigger.
I saw a parade at Buckingham Palace this morning. It's called the Changing of the Guard. It’s fascinating. The guards wear interesting uniforms with red coats and tall hats. Since 1660, the kings and queens of England have had these special guards to protect them.
The ceremony(仪式) lasted about 45 minutes. The new guards marched to the palace with a band to replace the old guards. They did this in a colourful ceremony with music. It’s interesting that they played both traditional music and popular songs. The Changing of Guard takes place in front of Buckingham Palace every day in spring and summer, and every two days in autumn and winter.
I went to the Houses of Parliament after I saw the Changing of the Guard. What are the Houses of Parliament Well, I guess the country’s leaders meet there to discuss important decisions.
Next to the Houses of Parliament stands a tall clock tower. Most people call it Big Ben. You know what The name Big Ben does not refer to the clock tower. Big Ben is actually the 13-ton bell inside it!
Take care!

根据“The Changing of Guard takes place in front of Buckingham Palace every day in spring and summer, and every two days in autumn and winter.”
根据“The ceremony(仪式) lasted about 45 minutes. The new guards marched to the palace with a band to replace the old guards.” 故选A。
通过“My first stop in London was Buckingham Palace。I went to the Houses of Parliament after I saw the Changing of the Guard. Next to the Houses of Parliament stands a tall clock tower”可知,我在伦敦的第一站是白金汉宫,我看到了守卫换岗后,去了国会大厦。
