Many kids help parents to do housework in the house. They may take out the rubbish, walk the dog or sweep the floor. In return, some kids get money or other rewards(报酬) from their parents, such as 20 minutes to play computer games.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing housework. One of them is Jane Smith, a parenting educator and family coach. She believes if kids get rewards, they may think that work isn’t worth(值得) doing unless you get something back. For example, kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will do it if their parents reward them for it.
“Every house is a team effort,” Jane said. “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all have a responsibility to keep our home clean.”
Other people hold different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards encourage kids to do more housework. It also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn about how we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do housework. The apps give kids points and digital gifts that can be used either online or in life. With the app Chore Monster, kids earn(赚得) digital points after doing housework. Kids can use their points to get real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall. “Our goal is to encourage kids so they can earn rewards,” says Joe Black, the founder of Chore Monster.
“Kids need positive power to make them do housework.”

A coffee shop near Kansas City is giving students a taste of how to run a coffee business. Campus Grounds is a student-run coffee shop put together by the Fort Osage School District and the Fort Osage Career and Technology Center.
“I’m more of a hands-on person and a hands-on learner and I’m looking forward to learning something outside of the classroom,” said Sidney Sullivan, senior at Fort Osage.
Sullivan and other qualified(合格的)seniors have to apply every year to be part of Campus Grounds. The selected applicants get to call all the shots, responsible for coming up with social media ideas, plannmg menus and considerng customer feedback(反馈的意见) to offer the best mix of choices. Students also learn how to make drinks and run the cash register(现金出纳机) and some students are even paid to run the shop on Saturday as well as before and after school.
“It’s been awesome. So far, I have learned to make several kinds of coffee,” said Maya Strasser, senior at Oak Grove. “Here, you’re not just following instructions from a book or video; you’re actually talking to people face-to-face, getting their feedback and making connections. It’s such a good way to learn and improve my skills.”
The program was started in 2021 and includes students from four different districts(学区) including Oak Grove, Blue Springs, Fort Osage and Grain Valley. Susie Suits, Director at the Career and Technology Center at Fort Osage says the shop helps build a stronger community with every drink they serve.
“It’s an excellent program. It’s one that students love to go to. It’s their favorite class. It gets students out of campus and gives people a chance to come together. It’s just a great environment,” said Suits.

Unlike-most book clubs, the Silent Book Club’s Minneapolis chapter(分会) doesn’t require its members to read a single title. The setup is simpler: Bring whatever book you happen to be reading. Quietly read that book for 45 minutes. Then share a bit about the book with others. The clubs attract introverts(内向性格的人), people who like reading very much, and people who hate the idea of spending reading time on a book someone else chose.
“I hated assigned(指定的) reading in school,” said Kortney Webster, a member of this club since it started in 2019, shaking her head. “Whenever I would see book clubs, and the books that they were reading, I just thought, ‘I don’t want to read that.’ ”
Across the table from her was Matt Streit, who started the Minneapolis chapter. Streit had heard a National Public Radio story about the Silent Book Club and was inspired by the concept(概念). The first Silent Book Club was set up in 2012 by Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich. When the chapter started in Minneapolis, eight people showed up. Now, once a month, many newcomers and familiar faces gather in coffee shops across the Twin Cities. A big quiet community room is a plus. But during a recent meet-up at Arbeiter Brewing Co., they read quietly while a dance party played out alongside them. Streit has never had to spread the word about the Club, never had to remind his friends. “I’ve never had to worry about people showing up.”
Some people say this is “a book club for introverts.” But the 48-year-old bristles at the idea. “We treat introverts like they’re shy weirdos(古怪的人) ,” he said. But Streit likes a good party as much as he likes a good book. This book club, too, is a balance: “We do a little conversation, a little reading, a little conversation. It’s no pressure. But we’re not reading by ourselves. We want community.”
17. What is special about the Minneapolis chapter
A. It usually holds activities in very noisy areas.
B. It allows members to bring any book they are reading.
C. It encourages members to discuss things during meet-ups.
D. It requires members to finish their books before meet-ups.
18. What can we infer about Kortney Webster from paragraph 2
A. She found assigned books too difficult.
B. She preferred reading in a group rather than alone.
C. She was uninterested in the books that others chose.
D. She disliked socializing with others at book club meet-ups.
19. What inspired Matt Streit to start the Minneapolis chapter
A. A friend’s suggestion. B. A story about the club.
C. A wish to balance work and life. D. A wish to gather a community of introverts.
20. What do the underlined words “bristles at” in the last paragraph mean
A. Is angry with. B. Is worried about. C. Is curious about. D. Is impressed with.

People think the idea of afternoon tea was first introduced by an English Duchess. She was Anna Russell, the 7th Duchess of Bedford.
Afternoon tea parties quickly became popular social events, and this trend continues today. They still play an important role in modern Britain’s social life.
C. The Duchess found a clever way to solve the problem. She invited friends to an afternoon meal, which was held between 4 and 5 o’clock.
D. It included cakes and sandwiches, with tea to go with the food. To make the afternoon meal more important, she used fine china cups and plates, plus silver teapots, knives, forks and spoons.
E. In the 18th and 19th centuries, most English people ate only two main meals a day- breakfast in the morning and a big supper usually served after 7 p.m. So, people often felt very hungry during the long break between these two meals.

Having a good relationship with your roommate is important. 26 If you and your roommates make the effort, a peaceful and happy home is in your future.
Before starting the journey to find a roommate, it’s important to make sure you will get along. Take a moment to think about your living preferences before making a decision. Getting along doesn’t mean you and your roommate have to share all of the same interests or be best friends. 27
Once you’ve found a friendly roommate, the next key step for a warm living environment is to set clear rules through a roommate agreement. This document should include rights and responsibilities, covering rent payments, chores, and privacy. 28 Besides, agreeing on personal space rules also makes sure both of you feel comfortable at home.
Achieving a fair way of dealing with money also helps avoid arguments. This includes dividing the cost of rent, bills, and other shared costs in a way that everyone agrees on. Dividing rent equally(平等地) among roommates is nice. 29 In this case, it might be better to decide each person’s rent flexibly (灵活地).
30 . Creating an environment where open and regular communication is welcomed is key to solving problems before they get worse. One way of keeping communication clear is to have regular “check-in” meetings. They provide roommates with time to talk about home things, share problems in a helpful manner, and celebrate successes or share personal news.
A.Your lifestyles and values just have to be similar.
B.A friendly atmosphere depends on how you think.
C.However, one’s room might have more advantages.
D.You can include what you want to list in the agreement.
E.Living with others may seem hard, but it doesn’t have to be.
F.Communication is the basis of good roommate relationships.
G.Clear discussions about money and chore sharing prevent fights.

【答案】

14.空前句“Getting along doesn’t mean you and your roommate have to share all of the same interests or be best friends.(相处融洽并不意味着你和你的室友必须拥有相同的兴趣或成为最好的朋友)”提到,相处融洽不要求兴趣相同或成为挚友,否定了表面共性。选项A“Your lifestyles and values just have to be similar.(你们的生活方式和价值观必须相似)”提到只需生活方式和价值观相似,直接承接空前句的“不要求兴趣相同”,指出核心相似点(生活方式和价值观),承接上文,符合语境。故选A。
15.空前句“This document should include rights and responsibilities, covering rent payments, chores, and privacy.(这份文件应该包括权利和责任,包括租金、家务和隐私)”详述室友协议内容;空后句“Besides, agreeing on personal space rules also makes sure both of you feel comfortable at home.(此外,在个人空间规则上达成一致也能确保你们在家里感觉舒适)”补充协议延伸。选项G“Clear discussions about money and chore sharing prevent fights.(关于金钱和家务分担的明确讨论可以防止争吵)”说明清晰讨论金钱和杂务分工可预防争执,总结空前句的“租金、杂务”要点,点明其作用(防冲突),同时与空后句的“舒适”形成因果链(讨论规则→避免冲突→确保舒适),起到承上启下作用。故选G。
16.空前句“Dividing rent equally among roommates is nice.(在室友之间平均分摊房租是不错的)”肯定平等分租;空后句“In this case, it might be better to decide each person’s rent flexibly.(在这种情况下,最好是灵活地决定每个人的租金)”提出例外方案。
空后句“Creating an environment where open and regular communication is welcomed is key to solving problems before they get worse.(创造一个欢迎公开和定期交流的环境是在问题恶化之前解决问题的关键)”聚焦沟通的核心作用;下文“One way of keeping communication clear is to have regular “check-in” meetings.( 保持沟通清晰的一种方法是定期召开“定期”会议)”进一步以“定期会议”例证沟通实践。选项F“Communication is the basis of good roommate relationships.(交流是良好室友关系的基础)”作为段落主题句,直接概括后文核心(沟通环境的重要性),且“basis”与后文“key”形成同义替换。故选F。

Dear Luke,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits. I’m writing to share a little trouble and to ask for your help. Last week, our class had an oral English presentation. Unfortunately, my pronunciation was not standard and I struggled to speak fluently.
Despite my best efforts, I have encountered significant difficulties in pronunciating and speaking English fluently, which has not only hindered my progress but also caused considerable stress and anxiety. Since you’re a native English speaker, I wonder if you could share some tips to improve my oral English. For example, do you have any suggestions on how to practice pronunciation correctly Or are there any simple exercises I can do daily to become more fluent I’d also love to know if you have a favorite app or resource for oral practice.Maybe some tips on effective practicing skills would help me break the ice, strengthening my English.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my email and offer me your kind guidance. I’m looking forward to your early reply.
Yours ,
Li Hua

I'm from Barcelona, which is a fantastic place to live if you're a climber. I only need to drive an hour to get to some amazing places to climb. This area of Spain is warm enough to have a ten-month climbing season. There are lots of things I love about climbing. For example, I like finding really difficult places to climb, so I can become a better climber. But more than anything else, I like being outside all day in the mountains.
When I was 19, I broke my knee so I couldn't climb for nearly a year, but I didn't lose interest in climbing. Now I've started entering lots of climbing competitions. Some climbers only think about winning or worry about the crowds watching them climb. However, I only think about the climbing moves that I need to do. Because of that, I usually perform well in competitions.
Questions:
7. What country is the speaker from
8. What does the speaker enjoy most about climbing
9. How old was the speaker when he broke his knee
10. What does the speaker focus on during climbing competitions 2025-2026 学年高一上学期第一次检测

17.本空要填的是段落主题句。空后句“Creating an environment where open and regular communication is welcomed is key to solving problems before they get worse.(创造一个欢迎公开和定期交流的环境是在问题恶化之前解决问题的关键)”聚焦沟通的核心作用;下文“One way of keeping communication clear is to have regular “check-in” meetings.( 保持沟通清晰的一种方法是定期召开“定期”会议)”进一步以“定期会议”例证沟通实践。选项F“Communication is the basis of good roommate relationships.(交流是良好室友关系的基础)”作为段落主题句,直接概括后文核心(沟通环境的重要性),且“basis”与后文“key”形成同义替换。故选F。

Dear Luke,
I hope this email finds you in good spirits.
Yours ,
Li Hua
