Most runners choose their routes based on distance or surface. Some pick flat roads for steady speed, while others choose hills for a tougher workout. But for LennyM. ughan, running is more than fitness—— it is also a way to make art.
. laughan, who calls himself a“human Etch A Sketch,” creates GPS drawings——pictures made by GPS tracking—— by running through the streets of San Francisco. He got the idea from apps that runners use to record their routes. “When I was a kid, I was known for drawing funny pictures of people. I had a real talent for it,” he said. “I forgot about it until a little over 10 years ago.”
Maughan begins by carefully mapping his design on a paper map of San Francisco. He often needs to map out several different routes before finding one that works. His goal is to create images that are clear and easily recognizable. Once the route is planned, Maughan runs his“masterpiece,” using a GPS app called Strava to track his movement. However, Strava only shows the full image after the run is complete. That means Maughan has to follow his planned path very carefully. One wrong turn can ruin the artwork. “You can't see the drawing while you run,” Maughan explained. “So when you finish and finally see it come together, it's a wonderful feeling.”
Over the past ten years, the San Francisco runner has created more than 50 images, from a simple heart to the Star Trek Enterprise. In February 2025, he spent 10 hours running 40 miles to create a snake in honor of the Lunar New Year. But his most famous creation is a line portrait of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, completed in 2019.
That image covered almost 29 miles and involved a lot of climbing. “I like to say my canvas is San Francisco,” said Maughan. “I love running and I love art. This is a nice way to combine them both.”
24. What inspired Maughan to start GPS running art
A. A childhood art class. B. A famous artist's advice.
C. His love for San Francisco. D. Path-recording applications.
25. Why must Maughan follow his route precisely
A. In order not to get lost.
B. Because the app requires it.
C. To complete his drawing well.
D. To stay away from heavy traffic.
26. What is Maughan's best-known GPS artwork
A. A heart shape. B. A snake drawing.
C. Frida Kahlo portrait. D. Star Trek Enterprise.
27. What can we infer about Maughan's personality
A. Strict and disciplined. B. Creative and passionate.

Foreign tourists are returning to China in growing numbers after the country loosened its visa policy to an unusually high level. Citizens from 74 countries cann-now enter China for up to 30 days without a visa, a big jump from previous regulations.
The government has been expanding visa-free access to boost tourism, the economy, and its global influence. More than 20 million foreign visitors entered without a visa in 2024—— more than double the number in the previous year, according to the National Immigration Administration. “This really helps people to travel because it is such a trouble to apply for a visa,” Giorgi Shavadze, a Georgian living in Austria, said on a recent visit to the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.

In Hungary, restorers are working to save the historic book collection of theBenedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma, a UNESCO World Heritage site, after discovering a serious insect infestation(虫害). The entire collection of 400,000 books is now being treated, as drugstore beetles—— also known as bread beetles—— have been found throughout the library. These insects, usually found in dry foods like grains and spices, are also drawn to the glue used in old books.
The infestation was first noticed during a routine cleaning, when staff saw unusual aust and small holes in several books. Closer inspection revealed that the beetles had bored into the pages. “This is the worst infestation we' ve ever seen,” said Zsofia EditHajdu, the lead restorer. “Since it's spread across many parts of the library, we have to treat ever single book.”
The treatment process begins by placing books into boxes and sealing them inside large plastic bags. The air is then removed and replaced with pure nitrogen. After six weeks without oxygen, all insects should be killed. Once disinfected, each book will be examined and cleaned by hand. Those with damage will be set aside for later repair.Fortunately, the Abbey's oldest and rarest volumes, stored separately, were not affected.
The Pannonhalm a Abbey, founded in 996, holds Hungary's oldest book collection and many early written records. Located in the country's northwest, it has long been a major religious and cultural center in Central Europe. Library director Ilona Asvanyi warned that any damage to the collection would be a loss to Hungary's cultural and historical heritage. Experts believe climate change may have played a role in the incursion, as warmer temperatures help insects survive and spread. “We used to worry more about mold,” one restorer said. “But now, because of global warming, insect problems are becoming more common.”
The Abbey hopes to reopen the library early next year after the restoration is complete.
32. What attract beetles according to the text
A. Dust and paper. B. Warm air and light.
C. Mold on old covers. D. Book glue and dry food.
33. How was the insect infestation first discovered
A. During a repair task.
B. When beetles flew out.
C. By accident during cleaning.
D. While moving the old books.
34. Why were the rarest books unharmed
A. They were too old for beetles.
B. They were stored in another room.
C. They were made with special paper.
D. They had already been treated before.
35. What does the underlined word“incursion” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Mold growth. B. Insect invasion.

Rainbows are one of the most beautiful things in nature. They are also great examples of how light and water can combine to create something magical. 36 When sunlight hits the water droplets in the air, the white light splits into a spectrum of colors that bend at different angles. This is what gives us the eye-catching rainbow.
There are always seven colors in a rainbow and they always show up in the same order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. 37 Each color has a different wavelength. Red, with the longest wavelength, is on the outside, while violet, with the shortest, is on the inside.
A rainbow is actually a full circle. However, mostly we see it as a semicircle because we are looking at it from the ground. Since the observer is standing on the ground, the other half of the circle is hidden by the earth's surface. 38 Pilots can see full-circle rainbows provided that weather conditions permit.
Rainbows can be created at home using simple materials. 39 For example, they can use CDs, mobile phones, or flashlights. By shining light through these materials, they can observe how each one produces a rainbow with its own unique pattern.
Rainbows are one of nature's most beautiful wonders. 40 So, the next time you see a rainbow, take a moment to appreciate its beauty and at the same time think about all the different colors that make it up.
A. It's organized by wavelength.
B. A rainbow is not just a collection of pretty colors.
C. Most rainbows exist because of sunlight and rain.
D. They' re also a great way to explore the science behind it.
E. Students can explore different ways of producing a rainbow.

Justin Dudley, a 48-year-old single father from Maine, had long struggled with obesity. At his heaviest, he weighed 343 pounds and wore size XXXXL clothing. The“fast-food addict” says he followed every meal with dessert—— and that he once spentS500 a month on snacks like ice cream, chips, and candy. “I always hated having my photo taken, and if I had to be in a group picture,I would always stand at the back,”said the father.
In April 2024, Dudley decided enough was enough. The single dad's only son,Ethan, would graduate from high school that spring. Dudley realized he didn't want to be remembered as the dad who was always ashamed of how he looked. Determined to make a change, he started eating only during certain hours of the day and limited himself to 1,200 calories, drinking tea or black coffee until dinner. He also started doing home works. With fierce discipline, Dudley began shedding pounds——22 in the first month, and another 20 the next.
The graduation day was approaching. Although Dudley had lost weight, he still felt self-conscious about his appearance. He continued to avoid cameras, but he was proud to be there for Ethan. His son, in turn, told him how proud he was of his father's progress. That encouragement gave Dudley the motivation to keep going.
Over time, Dudley lost a total of 180 pounds. He now spends only $300 a month on healthy food. More importantly, he gained confidence and a new outlook on life. He now looks at old photos with disbelief and pride, knowing how far he's come.
Dr. Jason Fung, a health expert, says that success lies in consistency. “It's not easy,” he said, “but building it into a habit can make all the difference.” Dudley's transformation wasn't just about weight—— it was about reclaiming his life and showing his son that it's never too late to change.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Finally, the big day came—— Ethan was graduating. At the graduation ceremony, Justin Dudley sat in the audience with a mix of pride and anxiety. Wearing a suit two sizes smaller than what he had ever owned before, he applauded as Ethan walked across the stage. Though still camera-shy, he agreed to take a family photo afterward.Standing beside his son, Justin smiled——a genuine, hard-earned smile. For the first time, Justin didn't shy away when someone took their picture together. “You look amazing, Dad,” Ethan whispered. That moment stayed withJustin long after the flash faded.
Looking ahead, Justin has ambitious plans. He wants to start a blog to share his story online, hoping to inspire other single parents who struggle with health and self-worth. He dreams of hiking in national parks, something he never imagined doing before. “I have missed so much,” he says, “but now I have a second chance.” With renewed health, a stronger bond with his son, and a clear purpose, Justin's next chapter is only just beginning.

M: We don't have any reservations. Is it still possible for us to get a table for two
W: You' re lucky. A party of two just called off their reservations. We can seat you in about 15 minutes.
Text 2
W: Do you know where Dave is I' ve been to his new apartment several times, but he hasn't been there.
M: He is staying at his brother's house. He hates the smell of fresh paint.
Text 3
W: There was a merry smile on the cute little girl's face, and she walked lightly down the stairs like dancing.
M: She got a beloved skirt. Which girl doesn't like new clothes
Text 4
M: Excuse me, can I buy tickets here
W: No, tickets are on sale over there, at the ticket office.
M:OK, is there a discount for senior citizens
W: I'm not sure. For more information ask at the ticket office.

W: Did you see that thunderstorm yesterday afternoon The lightning was amazing.
M:I was walking home from football practice when the rain started!
W: It was really heavy.
M: Yeah. When it began I'd just left the sports center, so I was able to go back and take cover from the rain inside.

M:I'm hungry, Mom. I have been watering the flowers in the garden all the morning. Is lunch ready
W: Yes. Wash your hands first.
M: What are we going to have for lunch
W: Beef, eggs and tomatoes. All are what you like to eat.
M: Are there any noodles I haven't eaten noodles for a long time.
W: Yes, there are. There is rice, too.

W: You look sad. What's up
M:I failed another French exam. I'm never going to learn this language well.
W: Oh, come on. Don't say that. In the past, my French was very poor. But now it's pretty good.
M:I wish that would happen to me. How did you do it
W: I took every chance to practice, such as talking to foreigners, reading French aloud in the morning and even speaking to myself, from time to time.
M: I' ve done the same. I' ve also watched several French films. But it's useless. My French hasn't improved. Idon't think it ever will.
W: You should have confidence in yourself. You can learn French well so long as you work hard.
M: Perhaps, you' re right. Anyway, thanks a lot for the advice.
Text 8
M: This food tastes terrible! I can't believe this restaurant is so highly recommended on Yelp.
W:I know. We' re going to pay an arm and a leg for this meal, too. I wish we had gone somewhere else. We should have known not to trust a website when picking out a restaurant. My best luck with places to eat has always been from talking to friends.
M: Oh, well. Even though the food is bad, we' re here now, so we might as well enjoy ourselves. My drink is pretty good. I think I' ll order another one.
W: We can always just leave our food and grab a piece of pizza on the way home.
M: That's a good idea. Let's finish our drinks first.
W: Okay. Hey, did Brian ever pay you back the money he owed you
M: Yeah, he finally did. He's a good friend, but he's very forgetful sometimes. We should invite him and Susan over for dinner soon. I haven't seen them in ages.
W: I' ll give Susan a call this week.

W: Nice to meet you, Jack. I'm Mrs. Spence. Please take a seat.
M: Thank you, Mrs. Spence. Nice to meet you, too.
W: So, you' ve applied to do a teaching course here.
M: Yes, that's right.
W:I'd like you to tell me, first of all, why you want to be a teacher.
M: OK. Well, I' ve always loved explaining things and helping people. I'm not looking for an easy job——I like a challenge! I also want to work with young people.
W: And why have you decided to become a PL teacher
M: OK, playing sports is my favorite. I really believe it's important for young people to do sports at school.
W: Oh, mine is watching sports. Well, why is it so important, do you think
M: OK. Well, first of all, we all know it's important lot our health to keep physically fit. Second, physical exercise is good for our mental well-being.
W: Hmmm...
M: Finally, playing sports teaches young people important life lessons. like teamwork, which values most.
W: OK. Jack. Let's stop here. I' ll let you know the result soon.

W: Hello, I'm Rachel Joyce. I'm so happy to be here today at the Claremont Library. I' ve traveled all the way from England, and it's truly wonderful to visit the United States! This is the first stop on my book tour. I'm off to Australia next! Before I take any questions, let me tell you a bit about myself. My new novel, The LoveSong of Miss Queenie Hennessy, was published in 2014. The book is a companion to my first novel, The UnlikelyPilgrimage of Harold Fry, which follows a man named Harold Fry as he goes in search of his old friend, QueenieHennessy, in hopes of saying goodbye before she dies. The novel was published in 2012. It was almost chosen for the Commonwealth Book Prize and the Man Booker Prize. The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy is Queenie's side of the story as she waits for Harold. I' ve also written many radio plays for BBC Radio Four, and in 2007,Iwon the Tinniswood Award for my radio play To Be a Pilgrim. I have also won the UK National Book Award forNew Writer of the Year. Now, I' ll take questions from the audience.
