Writing a good story is no easy task. What’s the secret Mo Yan, the 2012 Nobel Prize winner in literature, believes his success comes from doing a lot of reading.
Mo was born into a farming family in a village in Shandong province. He grew up listening to folk stories about gods, spirits and foxes. Those stories later became the inspiration for Mo’s writing.
Mo left school at the age of 12 and started to work in the fields. Although he was tired after his daily hard work, Mo was always hungry for books. However, there were very few in the village. He read his older brother’s textbooks and even dictionaries. He also helped others with farm work in exchange for books.
“When I finished reading all the books around, I thought I was the most knowledgeable man in the world,” he told Xinhua.
After Mo left his hometown and joined the army in 1976, he began to read widely, including works by Lu Xun and many other famous writers.
He studied from these writers but did not copy them. Instead, he developed his own style. “I grew up in an environment filled with folk culture. It enters my novels whenever I pick up a pen. This has influenced, even decided, my style,” Mo told a group of reporters in his hometown after he won the award.
As the first Chinese person to win a Nobel Prize in literature, the organization spoke highly of his works. They said his writing is where fantasy and reality meet, bringing together historical and social perspectives (看法).

①Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony (和谐) with nature.
②That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.
③In modern times, humans didn’t follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it’s never too late to make changes.
④Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global (全球的) warming.
⑤Also in China, the government added green development to the country’s work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 mil-lion yuan to build over 5, 700 green projects.
⑥Denmark (丹麦) is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the “Power-to-X” plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen (氢气).
⑦Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspapers, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity from solar panels (太阳能电池板) , water power and a generator that burns farm waste.
⑧Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let s join our hands to make the world a better place for now and future.

A Everyone is part of the green development. B. Green buildings are the future of the world.

Do you ever feel like your study habits simply don’t work Do you wonder what you could be doing to perform better in class and on exams Then maybe you need to study smarter not harder. Here are some important tips for you:
Reading is not studying.
Simply reading and re-reading texts or notes is not really getting into the material. Getting into the work is the process of making meaning from text. This includes making connections to lessons, forming examples and planning your own learning. Organization and planning will help you to really study for your courses. When studying for a test, organize your materials first and then begin your active reviewing by topic.
It’s good to be intense (严肃、紧张).
Not all studying is equal (同等的). You will achieve more if you study intensively. Intensive study times are short and will allow you to get work done with the least wasted effort. Shorter, intensive study times are more effective (有效率的) than drawn out studying.
In fact, one of the best study strategies is to break up your study time into different parts. Intensive study times can last 30 or 45 minutes and include active studying strategies (策略). And then take a break. This way, you are much more likely to stay focused and remember the information.
Silence isn’t golden.
Know where you study best. The silence of a library may not be the best place for you. It’s important to consider what noise environment works best for you. You might find that you concentrate (集中注意力) better with some background noise. Some people find that listening to classical music while studying helps them concentrate, while others find this stops them concentrating. The point is that the silence of the library may be just as bad (or worse) than the noise of a gymnasium.
