阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Letter One
Dear Editor,
After I finish my homework, I often go online and chat with my friends. Sometimes I play computer games. But my parents hate to see me playing games on the computer. Maybe they have heard too much news about how QQ and computer games harm children. Once I went to a net bar(网吧) to play games after school. But after that I told my parents that I was playing basketball at school. I said so because I didn't want to make them unhappy. I feel bad about it. However, I need to rest for a while by playing computer games after studying for a long time. I really want my parents to understand that. Do foreign parents do the same to their children Please help me.
Li Ping,
Beijing
Letter Two
Dear Li Ping,
I don't think it's strange for parents to keep their children away from anything bad. Foreign parents will do the same as your parents! They may not let their children watch TV for too long a time, or like your parents, they don't want their children to play computer games.
Talk to your parents and be honest to them, I think. Tell them what you are doing and why you are doing so to make them understand you. It's never good to do things behind your parents. They aren't fools as you think sometimes! Our parents seem to know what is the best for us.
Remember: to be honest is the best way.
Good luck,
Rebecca

High altitude rescue team has set new standards in the Himalayas this season, performing the highest altitude rescue ever completed. On May 19th, a rescue team successfully got a mountaineer from near Camp 3 at 23,000 feet on Everest (珠穆朗玛峰). The climber named Gautam nearly reached the top but became extremely exhausted and seriously dehydrated(脱水的).
After a difficult and dangerous rescue, the team was able to successfully save Gautam’s life.
In an interview with Moro, the pilot of the rescue team, he said, “You have to be prepared, technically, physically, and also mentally.” He added, “The aim wasn’t to set a record but to save someone’s life.”
The team has flown rescue tasks using Nepalese helicopters (直升机) for two years but had the idea to create a team with its own helicopter, which has been able to complete this season. The entire operation is privately financed, and according to Moro, “doesn’t cost the Italian or Nepalese tax payer a single cent.” Moro also flies tasks for the local population for “free or at extremely reduced prices”.
Moro sees potential for the increasing number of high altitude Himalayan rescue operations. In the future, he hopes to see more than one team, as well as a specialised team of climbers that would be able to perform rescues at altitudes and in weather conditions that are impossible for helicopters.

If misery loves company, so does anger. It can feel downright delicious to vent (发泄) to your loved ones about life’s annoyances. For a long time, psychologists held the idea that it’s better to release negative emotions than hold onto them. But back in 2002, Bushman, professor of communication at the Ohio State University who studies the topic, published a study that questioned that logic. He demonstrated that when people expressed anger, such as by hitting a punching bag (沙袋), they only got more angry and aggressive.
Analyzing a frustrating conversation or social slight (轻视) can cause rumination — the psychological term for fixing on negative thoughts and feelings — and blow out of proportion (比例) relatively minor annoyances, says Jesse Cougle, a psychology professor at Florida State University who studies anger. Neither is healthy. Indeed, a 2020 study of coping strategies during the pandemic found that venting was linked to poorer mental health, while strategies like accepting, joking about, and positively reframing the situation seemed to boost well-being.
Bushman’s more recent research suggests that calming practices such as meditation, yoga, and deep breathing are better at removing anger. The goal should be to lower rather than raise excitement, he says. Even running, which many people view as a kind of therapy, increases too much excitement to be an effective anger reliever. “You should go for runs because they’ re good for your health, but not because they’ll make you feel calmer,” Bushman says.
When you feel yourself getting stuck in the quicksand of venting, look for healthier coping strategies. Bushman’s research supports the “fly-on-the-wall” technique, which challenges angry people to imagine themselves as a third party observing the situation that made them angry. A 2019 study also found that it’s healthier to look for broader meaning in an annoying situation Think: “you can’t always get what you want”) than to fix on every annoying detail.
8. What is the finding of Brad Bushman’s study
A. Venting does good to health. B. Venting makes things worse.
C. It’s beneficial to hit a punching bag. D. It’s better to vent to your loved ones.
9. What does the underlined word “rumination” refer to in paragraph 2
A. Focusing on negative feelings. B. Blowing up minor annoyances.
C. Solving the discouraging problems. D. Treating the social slight positively.
10. What can we know about running according to paragraph 3
A. It can fuel anger. B. It is an anger reliever.
C It can lower excitement. D. It is a calming practice.
11. What can angry people do when venting according to the “fly-on-the-wall” technique
A. Observe the situation as a victim. B. Put themselves into onlookers’ shoes.
C. Search for a broader meaning in the situation. D. Analyze the situation from an outsider’s angle.
D
Tea is a simple drink, and one that has long been central to the lives of millions of people, originally in the East, and now almost worldwide. There are six major types of tea in China—green tea, black tea, Oolong tea, dark tea, white tea, and reprocessed tea, distinguished(区分) mainly by different methods of production.
China, the homeland of tea, is a leading producer and customer, and the discovery and usage of tea have a history of four or five thousand years. Tea developed from the earliest fresh-boiled tea taken as a kind of soup, to later dried-and-preserved teas, and from simple green tea to the blending(融合) of six major kinds of tea.
Drinking tea first started to become popular in the Tang and Song Dynasties, and has continued into contemporary(当代的) times. The flavour of tea, which may be drunk weak or strong, contains both bitter and sweet elements. The origin of tea is lost among history and legend. What can be roughly confirmed is that tea originated in southwest China. In Yunnan, and elsewhere, there are still some wild tea trees that are over 1,000 years old.
It is said that the first person to discover the effects of tea was Shen Nong—the father of agriculture and herbal medicine in China. In ancient times, people knew very little about plants. In order to find out which plants could be eaten safely, Shen Nong tasted various kinds of plants to test them as food or medicine. After he had eaten the plants, Shen Nong observed their reactions in his stomach—he is said to have had a “transparent stomach”!
With the popularization of tea, people in different regions and of different nationalities developed their own unique customs of taking tea. In Guangdong, for example, people like drinking morning tea, while people of the Bai nationality treat their guests with “Three-Course Tea”. Tibetan people prefer buttered tea and those from Inner Mongolia like milk tea.
These various tea customs make up the rich and profound(深厚的) Chinese tea culture. Many traditional Chinese families drink tea after dinner or when greeting visitors. This is not only a healthy habit but also reflects rich culture and history.
12. How can we tell different types of tea
A. By its colour. B. By its popularity.
C. By its drinking way. D. By its production method.
13. What can we learn about tea from the text
A. It has been known for about 4,000 or 5,000 years.
B. It originated in Yunnan, southwest China.
C. It is most accepted for the sweet flavour.
D. It’s taken in a similar way despite regions.
14. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A. How the effect of tea was discovered.
B. What the origin of tea is.
C. Why our ancestors grew tea.
D. When Shen Nong tasted tea.
15. What does the author think of Chinese tea culture
A. Out of fashion. B. Worthy of praise. C. Money-making. D. Eco-friendly.

Dear Editor,
I am Li Hua, a high school student. Lately, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend that a lack of physical exercise is becoming increasingly severe, leading to poor health issues among my peers.
There are two major causes for this phenomenon. To begin with, the students are buried in their studies, ignoring the equal importance of doing exercise. Besides, many students often get addicted to electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets in their spare time. To address this problem, I propose that students should raise the awareness of keeping fit and balance the time between study and exercise to ensure sufficient time for outdoor activities. what’s more, it is crucial for parents to supervise their children’s use of electronic devices.
It’s high time that we worked together to encourage senior high students to work out.
Yours,
Li Hua
