It was the men’s skating finals of the Winter Olympics when I was 16. Someday I’d be in the Olympics. In fact, it was my dream.
That night I lay on our living room floor excitedly watching the battle between the Brians: American Brian Boitano facing Brian Orser in Canada. Both of them had been world champions. Both of them deserved to win. Naturally I was for Brian Boitano, a northern Californian like me. We had skated on the same ice. I held my breath in amazement. Boitano performed successfully. The gold medal! I jumped in the air when his score went up.
But what happened next is what I’ll never forget. Brian Boitano sat in front of the camera with his coach, surrounded by a group of journalists. He was talking about his career and his medal, talking to the whole world. A terrible sinking feeling went through me. I could never be in the Olympics, I thought. I could not talk in public like that. Just the idea of a press conference terrified me.
I loved skating partly because I didn’t have to talk. I could express myself with my jumps and dances better. I didn’t have to stand up and give a speech like some teachers expected. I could feel the blood rush to my face if I thought a teacher was going to call me. I stared at my shoes. I was sure I’d make a fool of myself.
The next day I was at the rink (溜冰场)as usual. I was practising a combination of jumps that had once seemed impossible. I worked very hard the next few years — on the ice and especially off. After journalists talked to me and although my heart pounded every time I spoke to them, I got to know them. They became familiar faces. And they got to know me. So when my big moment came four years after Brians, I was ready. Sometimes I think my biggest accomplishment was not winning the gold but talking to the press afterwards. When you do the thing you fear most, you put an end to fear.
Fear can stop you dead in your tracks. Fear can kill a dream. What are you afraid of What scares you more than anything else This year, walk right up to it and conquer it, step by step.

25.What is one of the reasons why the author liked skating according to the passage
A.She could build up her body to be healthier.
B.It could help her to get closer to her idol.
C.She could better express herself with body language.
D.The possibility of her being a world champion was great.
26.What the author felt the most satisfied with is that ____.
A.She lived up to her coaches expectations
B.She became a world champion as planned
C.She managed to overcome her inner fear eventually
D.She handled the balance between her career and life
27.What does the author mainly want to tell us
A.Face a fear bravely. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Bad times make a good man. D.Failure is the mother of success.

Humans feed thousands of songs to AI (人工智能). And it is able to analyse the basic information and recognize patterns that can be used to create original music. Such AI-created music is similar to those that any musician might compose.
Recently, an AI-powered system, the Flow Machines, has released a song Daddy’s Car. This system is able to analyse the composers’ original ideas and come up with more ideas to assist them in composing. The system tries to combine the human mind with AI.
Another great invention is Jukedeck, which works very easily. In order to create a new piece, the user just needs to select items like the desired music style (folk, rock, etc.) and the mood (sad or happy). After a few seconds, AI provides a piece of music for the user to download. Each user can create music tailored to his or her interest.
Some musicians use AI to achieve what they could not do on their own. For example, Yacht, an American pop group, has used AI to break out of their comfort zone and try to create something different from their previous songs. Soon they have their new album, which contains 10 songs, all of which are very popular.
The development of AI technology also comes with some concerns. Some human composers fear that their work might be replaced by a machine. Some others are worried about music itself and the music industry, as AI is now able to create music more and more similar to human-composed music.
Faced with this challenge, on one hand, human musicians need to remain creative; on the other hand, they should understand how to use these new tools to explore new frontiers. Perhaps the future role of the human musicians will be to focus on emotions, leaving the machines to take care of other procedures.
28.What is the new development about AI in the text
A.Its progress in replacing humans. B.Its ability in music composing.
C.Its influence on human emotions. D.Its focus on changing human mind.
29.Why could Yacht create the popular new album
A.Because they stuck to their former music style.
B.Because they went beyond themselves with AI.
C.Because they put in more than ten original songs.
D.Because they insisted on composing by themselves.
30.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Problems about AI composing. B.Limitations of AI technology.
C.Challenges for human composers. D.Suggestions to human musicians.
31.Which word best describes the author’s attitude toward AI technology
A.Objective. B.Doubtful. C.Uncaring D.Confused.
D
Just like happiness and sadness, anxiety is part of everyone’s lived experience—but it’s not always tolerated as such. “People often spend too much time and effort trying to rid anxiety,” says Dr. Joel Minden, a clinical psychologist. “I encourage them to remember that anxiety is a normal emotional response.”
If you try to banish anxiety, all you’re doing is putting it more at the forefront of your mind. But if you accept anxiety as part of life, you can learn to relate to it with self-pity or even with humour. This is a cornerstone of acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT), which has been gaining clinical validation, including by the American Psychological Association. ACT guides people to see their unpleasant emotions as just feelings and to accept that parts of life are hard. Sufferers are encouraged to begin a dialogue with anxious thoughts, examining their causes while also keeping in mind their personal goals and values.
This way of relating to anxiety has been a powerful strategy for John Bateman, the 52-year-old host of the podcast Our Anxiety Stories. When negative thoughts arise, he acknowledges them but doesn’t let them drive his decisions. Over the years, Bateman has noticed that if he submits to his thoughts, they don’t go away but dramatically increase. But if he recognizes them for what they are, just a passing thought and not a fact that needs to be acted on, they gradually go away.
Learning to live with anxiety is an individual process and one that requires trial and error to get just right. While acceptance is the first and most important step to take, some lifestyle changes have been proven to take the edge off, as well. Since tiredness, increased tension and stress leave us much easier to fall into anxiety, a well-balanced diet, sufficient rest and, especially, regular exercise can help us manage it better.
32.What may Dr. Joel Minden agree about anxiety
A.It is often improperly treated. B.It should be seriously taken.
C.It is easily-earned experience. D.It goes hand in hand with joy.
33.What does the underlined word “banish” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Identify. B.Hide. C.Control D.Overlook.
34.Why does the author mention John Bateman in Paragraph 3
A.To explain a strategy. B.To describe a phenomenon.
C.To introduce a public figure. D.To present a successful case.
35.What is suggested to cope with anxiety in the last part
A.Concentrating on the process. B.Making lifestyle adjustments.
C.Avoiding exposure to pressure. D.Learning to get things in place.

It was in the early morning of one summer holiday that I was flying to Bali, Indonesia to see volcanoes. And my best friend was waiting for my arrival there. When I got off the plane and stepped out of the airport, I was thinking how unbelievable it was to stand in front of the spectacular volcano mountain. The imaginary sights distracted me, for a moment, from my current problem.
Only when I stood by the bus station to Bali, did I realize that I had no enough cash on me. The only ATM nearby didn’t seem to have any power, and I nervously looked down at my credit card, my only lifeline. I hoped there might be a way to convince the bus driver to let me on and pay him once I reached the destination and got the cash from my friend.
When the bus door opened, I stood behind a young lady and her little girl. I started to worry, wondering what I’d do if the credit card didn’t make the cut. They boarded the bus, paid in cash and sat down in the first row. When I approached the driver and held out my credit card, he looked at me seriously and shook his head.
“I don’t have any money,” I said. I showed him my wallet to confirm that I was telling the truth. He stared back blankly and then said no. I still wanted to convince him again. I pulled up my flight information on my phone and showed it to him. I pointed to the nearby ATM and signaled that it didn’t work. This time, he looked at me and apologized to me. “I’m really sorry. Can you make way for the other passengers ”
I stood aside. “What should I do ” I hesitated. It was the first time that I had visited the city. I was unfamiliar with everything around me. I searched the locations of other ATMs in the area. They were too far away. It would take me at least two hours to get there on foot. I really didn’t want my friend to wait for me too long, but unfortunately, I had to.

第二节(满分25分)
I was about to get off the bus when the young lady stood up. “Would you mind me helping you pay the fee ” She asked me. Surprised and excited, I looked into her eyes and said, “You are so generous to help me out. I’m more than grateful to your deed.” Hearing what I said, the young lady just smiled and paid for me. “Thank you very much, lady. After getting off, I’ll ask my friend to pay you back.” I said thankfully. “Just forget it.” She said.
Once we arrived at Bali, I followed the young lady and her little girl off the bus. My friend was waiting for me eagerly. Seeing me, he approached and asked worriedly, “Why are you so late What happened to you ” I explained the whole story to him briefly and said, “Don’t worry too much. I’m OK now. Please lend me some money to pay back to the generous lady.” But when I gave her the money, she refused it at first. Realizing our insistence, she accepted it finally. My friend and I thanked her again and helped them cross the road.
