It had been a hard day on the sales floor for young Brent. There were no customers—at least, none who wanted to buy. There were plenty who wanted to look, but he could never close a deal.
Toward the end of the day, an old man came in to buy a suit. It had the potential to be a good sale, the kind that could turn a bad day into a good one just like that. Brent worked hard to make it happen. The old man tried on several suits, and Brent carefully explained the materials and why these suits, while expensive, were such a good buy.
The old man hesitated (犹豫). Brent was a bit nervous, and was going to use some of the tricks he’d learned to pressure people into making a deal then. But that wasn’t the way he wanted to do business.
So, when it became clear that the old man was going to leave, Brent handed the old man his business card and invited him to return after he’d had a chance to look around. The old man looked at Brent’s card, and then took a long look at Brent.
“So you’re Brent’s boy.” the old man said. “You know my father ” Brent asked. “Sure.” the old man said.
They chatted for a moment, establishing the link between father and son. Then the old man said, “Your father is a good businessman. If you’re anything like him well, tell me again about that suit.”
Unexpectedly, Brent made the sale. But that wasn’t why he called his father that night to tell the story. “I just wanted to thank you,” he said to his father, “for giving me a name I can be proud of.”

“They’ll understand when they’re older,” Hearing this, as a parent, you may feel better. But the fact is that even when kids become adults, it doesn’t mean they’ll agree with your decisions.
Recently, I have had lots of conversations with my 19-year-old daughter about decisions I made in her childhood. She says she disagrees with some of them and some have even caused harm to her. That hurts. I think I must have failed as a parent.
It turns out that my daughter’s questioning is very normal. It happens to almost every teenager when they are in their late teens.
“In their late teens, teenagers start to find out who they are and what they stand for (支持),”says Mary Fleming, a college professor. “The search for identity ( 身份) is not always smooth.” The first task for teenagers is to dismantle the old life structure and to build a new one in its place. In other words, parents created that old life structure of childhood, so they are often at the heart of that dismantling process.
Hearing critical (批评的) words is hard. But if your teenager comes to you wanting to talk about it, pay attention to him or her. For both of you, it’s the beginning of understanding each other. And as they grow up, teenagers will realize they can’t live their lives over again, and neither can their parents. They will understand that their parents did the best they could with what they knew at the time.
Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph
Adults should let kids make their own decisions.
Parents often make right decisions for their kids.
Kids may disagree with their parents when they grow up.
How does the writer feel when hearing her daughter’s words at first
Confident. B. Surprised. C. Sad.
What does the underlined word “dismantle” probably mean in paragraph 4
Break . B. Organize. C. Forget.
Why do teenagers in their late teens question often their parents
They want to stand out.
They want to talk to their parents.
They want to find out their identity.
What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
Why it’s difficult to hear critical words.
How to deal with teenagers’ critical words.
Why teenagers should talk with their parents.

Breakdancing, also known as breaking or simply “B-boying” or “B-girling” , is a style of street dance that originated in the 1970s among African American and Puerto Rican communities in New York City.
Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon is one of the crazy fans of this dance style. He came to know breaking (霹雳舞) as a kid. 16 If you told him 44 years before that one day breaking would become an Olympic sport, he wouldn’t believe it at all.
However, it has come true. Breakdancing was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 2020, indicating its growing acceptance as a sport. 17 Chinese athlete Chen Qingquan won a silver medal in breaking. The Olympics, of course, has brought more attention to breaking and brought its top dancers more chances.
Before the Olympics, most people were excited about the good news. However, some people also expressed their big worry. 18 They thought that Olympic judges (裁判) might just pay attention to the difficulty of the dance moves, instead of the dancers’ passion (激情) and creativity.
“ 19 ” Richard said. “The passion and the pain both go along with your fight for life— they make the soul (灵魂) of the dance. We want to make sure that the soul isn’t changed.”
For young breakers, the breaking in the Olympics means a new chance. “I think it’s amazing news.” said Jeremy, a breaker in Alaska. “ 20 ”
