Look at the pictures of cute rabbits dressed in lion dance costumes. Can you guess what they are used for Are Egg carving (蛋雕) is often called the most fragile (易碎的) art, as it requires great care before, during and even after the carving. Yu Wen, the granddaughter of a famous local painter in Dandong. Liaoning Province, has been practicing egg carving for about 25 years.
Yu has used more than 10,000 eggs, and years of hard work has left many thick calluses (茧) on her hands. Sometimes she can’t even hold chopsticks properly after a long day of holding the carving knife. But in Yu’s opinion, the difficult process makes egg carving twice as exciting. “If you carve off too much, the work is broken and there is no way to deal with it. That makes the sense of achievement even greater when you finish a piece,” said Yu.
Yu’s love for egg carving started with a local tradition. In northeast China, when a baby is born, friends and relatives often give eggs colored red as gifts, and some may carve auspicious (吉利的) words on them. The character “fu” is a popular one to be carved onto eggs. Yu carves with not only popular characters or traditional patters, but also Peking Opera masks and wall paintings. Her egg carving is just as much about eggs as it is about Chinese culture.
Now Yu teaches egg carving at a local university. In recent years, she has seen more people coming from across the country learn the art. “I hope I can better combine (结合) the art with traditional culture in the future,” Yu said.

D. Now Yu teaches egg carving at a university in Liaoning Province
( ) 19. According to the passage, what does Yu Wen carve onto eggs
①Babies’ pictures. ②Traditional patterns. ③Peking Opera masks. ④Wall paintings.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
( ) 20. What can we learn from the passage

The human spine doesn’t just help us stand up straight. Inside the spine is the spinal cord (脊髓) 21 The legs and feet send “sense” information to the brain, saying they’re hurt or hot, for example. And the brain sends messages to the lower body, telling the legs to walk, dance or sit down.
When someone’s spinal cord is hurt, information about senses doesn’t reach the brain from the lower body. And control messages can’t make it to the lower body from the brain. 22
Surprisingly, now scientists in Switzerland have given three paralyzed men the ability to walk again. All of the three men had damaged their spinal cords in motorcycle accidents and couldn’t move their legs. To help them walk again, a special device (装置) was put directly on the lower part of their spinal cord.
The scientists controlled the device from a computer. 23 In the past, scientists have had some successes with the similar device in the lower spine. Some patients have even trained themselves over months to be able to walk.
But this research is different. 24 Instead, the computer tells the device to send “walking” messages. The scientists use computers to create patterns of movement—like taking a step—that work well with each patient. The patients then choose the pattern they want, and the muscles (肌肉) move in the chosen way.
Over time, the three men are able to walk on their own, using a special walker with buttons to trigger (激发) each leg. 25 The scientists are hopeful that in the future, this technology will allow more paralyzed people to walk again.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余选项。
A. When that happens, a person is paralyzed (瘫痪的). B. The patients’ brains aren’t sending “walking” messages to their legs. C. The solution isn’t perfect and the patients can’t walk without the system. D. One of them has walked for half a kilometer on his own with the walker. E. It carries important information between the head and the lower part of the body. F. Just hours after the device was first used, all the three men were taking steps, with support.

The 24 Solar Terms, which are also called 24 jieqi, are on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (人类非物质文化遗产).
The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms, such as, __________, __________, jingzhe and so on. They come from the farming culture of ancient China. Some of them are about the arrival of new seasons, some are about the weather and others tell changes about the living world.
Insects show farmers changes in nature and help them with their work. For example, with the sounds of insects, it is time to protect cops(庄稼) from dangerous insects. Spring is the mast important time of the year for farming. Farmers need to give crops the best possible care during this time.
Jingzhe falls on March 5th this year. In Chinese, zhe means the animals hide themselves without eating or moving and sleep during the winter. It means many insects are waking up and the earth is coming back to life. Jingzhe brings energy to insects. And Chinese farmers take insects seriously.
Jingzhe has been a key time for spring farming since the days of ancient China farmers become busy and start the year’s work. As the Chinese saying goes, “The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring.” Other people are also ready to welcome the lively spring.
What do we do around jingzhe Eating pears around jingzhe is a widely-practiced custom in China. As the air becomes dry, people feel their mouths becoming dry, which can cause colds or coughs. A pear is sweet and juicy. It is good for our lungs and throats. Therefore, pears are a popular food for jingzhe. Offering sacrifices to the white tiger in Guizhou and Hunan province can avoid trouble. Villain hitting ritual in Hong Kong can pray for good luck. Around jingzhe, sleeping animals wake up, and so do fish. They swim from the deep waters to shallow areas to find food.
