Four Beautiful Beaches In Singapore
In Singapore, there are a range of special beaches where you can relax for a day. At these popular beaches, you’ll feel as if you’re in paradise (天堂) — like Bali. Here are four of the best beaches there.
Tanjong Beach
The white-sandy beach is man-made and it’s the perfect place to relax in the sun, read a book away from the crowds, or go for a swim in the ocean. Especially, the Tanjong Beach Club is a top nightlife spot for drinking cocktails (鸡尾酒) and enjoying water sports like surfing.
St. John’s Island Beach
You can enjoy a quiet beach on St. John’s Island. This pretty place has a beach that’s great for sunbathing, swimming in clear water, and having picnics away from the city. Visitors can also spot unique marine life (海洋生物), go fishing, and even rent cabins or bungalows to stay on the island. Make sure to bring everything you need — there are no shops on the island.
Coney Island
Coney Island beach is the perfect place to relax away from the crowds. This hidden destination offers a couple of sandy spots to relax — whether you’re walking or cycling around Coney Island. It is definitely one of the best beaches to visit alone for a therapeutic (治愈的) experience.
Pulau Hantu
This island has a quiet beach far from busy tourist spots. The island consists of two small islands that join at low tide. There’s soft white sand and clear blue-green water here, teeming with (充满) colorful corals and marine life. People often camp overnight on the island, as it is only accessible by boat.

Best known for becoming the fastest women in the world, and the first female to win 3 Olympic gold medals at the same games, Wilma Rudolph’s journey was a long trip far from smooth sailing.
She was born on June 23, 1940, in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee. At two years old, she had several weakening health conditions, which forced her to wear a leg brace (支架) when growing elder. She said, “My doctor told me I would never walk again. My mother told me I would. I believed my mother.”
Despite the disabilities, the young athlete showed surprising promise early on. She began moving around on her brace and by the age of 11 became mobile enough to play basketball. Eventually, she was able to overcome her disabilities and fully devoted her life to athletics. When in the high school, she joined the basketball team, and as a naturally gifted runner she was then admitted to Tennessee State University to train with famous track coach Ed Temple.
Nicknamed “Skeeter” for her intense speed, Rudolph competed for the first in 1956 at the Summer Olympics at Melbourne, Australia. Here, as the youngest member of the team at just 16, she raced in the Women’s 200 meters and the 4×100-meter relay; the latter of which saw her team win bronze. After 4 years at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy, she won a ground-breaking 3 gold medals: Women’s 100m and 200m, and the 4×100m relay. In 1962, she retired from competition and returned to finish her degree at Tennessee State University, after which she began working in the education industry. In 1981, she established the ‘Wilma Rudolph Foundation’, a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis that promotes and helps amateur athletics, with a focus on track and field stars.
Her amazing life came to an end on November 12, 1994. Of course, she made her mark on sports history. However, she is also remembered for her motto — winning is great, sure, but if you are going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose.
4. Who played the key role in young Rudolph’s belief in recovery
A. Her doctor. B. Her coach. C. Her mother. D. Her teammate.
5. Which words best describe Rudolph’s early life
A. Healthy and promising. B. Challenging and difficult.

Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.
For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to enter international markets with their unique products.
As consumers have become more careful about spending, cheap but good-quality local brands have grown popular. But lower prices are not the only reason for the love of Chinese brands. In many cases shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes that sell for 15-20yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.
Chinese consumers are also now far less crazy about foreign goods simply because they are foreign. The rapid rise of Laopu proves that. Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked. The competition is not limited to China. Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America. Chagee will have more than 1,300shops outside China by the end of the year, up from almost none four years ago.
Experts believe that the more foreign recognition these brands get, the more popular they become within China. The popularity on Western social media over Labubu dolls is thought to have made them even more famous at home.
8. Why are Labubu dolls difficult to buy according to the text
A. The demand is too strong. B. Flagship stores are in short.
C. Blind boxes are hard to deliver. D. The buyers’ description is unclear.
9. How does the author illustrate the popularity of Chinese products
A By analysing data. B. By listing prices.
C. By comparing sales. D. By giving examples.
10. Which word best describes the brands mentioned in paragraph 4
A. Traditional. B. Luxurious. C. Innovative. D. Valueless.
11. What would be the best title for the text
A. Labubu Dolls: The Most Popular Toy in China.
B. Chinese Brands: From Local Fame to Global Fans.
C. Chagee and Pop Mart: Leading Chinese Industries.
D. Foreign Goods: Losing Their Appeal in Chinese Market.
D
A team of researchers from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed an innovative green pesticide formulation (农药配方) that promises to strengthen control of harmful insects while prioritizing safety for both crops and the environment. “This new pesticide represents a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pesticides,” said Prof. Wu Zhengyan, who led the research team. The findings of this study were published in ACS Nano.
Traditional pesticides often face several challenges, including uneven application on plant leaves, tendency to being washed away by rain, and rapid decomposition (分解) under sunlight. Additionally, remaining chemicals from these formulations can pose environmental risks. Therefore, in this study, the team engineered a new pesticide formulation to enhance adhesion to leaves, resist sunlight decomposition, and provide a gradual release of the active ingredient for sustained effectiveness.
The success of this new formulation lies in its unique structure. The carbon dots combined with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) increase the pesticide’s capacity to hold more abamectin (阿维菌素) — approximately 1.7 to 2.1 times more than conventional formulations. This allows for greater effectiveness while using less active ingredient. When the pesticide contacts the weakly acidic environment on plant leaves, the calcium carbonate breaks down, facilitating a quicker release of the pesticide and enabling easier tracking through the lights released by the carbon dots. This “controlled release” mechanism ensures that the pesticide remains active, even in challenging conditions such as UV light or rain.
In tests conducted on the diamondback moth (小菜蛾), a common agricultural threat, the new formulation demonstrated excellent pest control both indoors and outdoors. Importantly, it also minimizes environmental pared to traditional pesticides, this new formulation showed reduced poisonousness to non-target animals.
Furthermore, once the pesticide has released its active ingredient, the remaining materials decompose into harmless substances like calcium ions (Ca2+), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon dots, significantly lowering the risk of pollution.
12. How is the benefit of the new pesticide stressed in Paragraph 1
A. By offering statistics. B. By giving examples.
C. By defining a concept. D. By quoting an expert.
13. What does the underlined word “adhesion” mean in Paragraph 2
A. Sensitivity. B. Response. C. Reference. D. Stickiness.
14. What makes the new pesticide different from traditional one
A. Its distinctive structure. B. Its lower production cost.
C. Its unique tracking method. D. Its faster decomposition rate.
15 Why is the new pesticide environmentally friendly
A. It restores the ecological balance. B. Its by-products are clean and safe.
C. It avoids harming unrelated species. D. Its remaining materials are reusable.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Losing a small wetland might not seem like a big problem for the whole world or even a whole country. ____16____ Now, when it rains, the town gets flooded. And it’s terrible for the special animals and plants that live there.
Luckily, countries and international groups are starting to see how important wetlands are — both for local places and the whole world. Some have made “no-net-loss” rules to make sure the total number of wetlands won’t get smaller. ____17____
____18____ For example, over $10 billion ( 8.2 billion) has been used on a 35-year plan to fix the Florida Everglades. This is a special group of subtropical wetlands, and it’s the biggest and most expensive ecological repair project in the world.
Many places are also making new wetlands. In Britain, beavers (水獭) are being brought back to some enclosed areas. It’s hoped this will make more wetlands in the country, and bring all the good things these homes can give. Beaver dams (坝) and the wetlands they make can cut flooding by up to 60%. ____19____ One study found that because of these cute “workers”, the number of local mammal (哺乳动物) types went up by 86%.
It doesn’t really matter if the world has lost 20% or 50% of its wetlands. ____20____ As the UN said recently, 1 billion people depend on wetlands to make a living. Saving and fixing these important homes is key to having a future where we can live well without harming the planet.
A. But it’s really bad for the nearby town.
B. They also help more wild animals live there.
C. Wetlands provide food and homes for beavers.
D. After all, wetlands seem less important than rivers.
E. That means builders must fix any wetlands they destroy.
F. Wetlands are being protected around the world at huge costs.
G. What matters is that people stop regarding wetlands as useless.

In the corner of our basement sits a shelf filled with old radios — wooden boxes with metal buttons and antennas (天线), whose colors faded with time. To most, they might seem like waste. But to my grandfather, they were treasure chests of stories.
My grandfather grew up in a small mountain village, where the only way to hear news of the outside world was through an old, noisy and unclear radio that he fixed by connecting wires under high heat. “I didn’t understand most of the words,” he used to laugh. “But the music spoke to me.” Fixing radios became more than a hobby — it was how he reached out to the world. He learned everything through repeated trials, until broken silence turned into sound again.
My mother never planned to keep this habit. As a teenager, she preferred tape players and music that she could carry with her. But when Grandpa passed away, she couldn’t throw away his tools or the radios he left. “They’re part of him,” she once said, gently turning a round metal button on one of the radios. Slowly, she began trying to fix a few of them, not as an expert, but with care and curiosity.
By the time I was ten, I had watched my mother spend many weekends surrounded by small parts and wires. “Come and try with me,” she said one Saturday. “Let’s see if we can fix this one together.” I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t even like machines. I enjoyed reading and drawing. But when she turned the button and a jazz tune started playing, I felt something touched me.
Soon, fixing radios became our weekly activity. She showed me how to look closely at every wire and tiny part, and how to be patient and listen carefully. “Sometimes the problem isn’t what you see,” she said. “It’s what you hear — or don’t hear.”
Unlike my mother, I fell in love with it quickly. I began collecting old radios from neighbors and even tried fixing ones that no longer worked. I didn’t just want to make them work — I wanted to bring back their sound.

47. One possible version:
One winter evening, a sudden power cut hit our village. The whole village was swallowed by darkness, and the cold silence seemed to stretch endlessly. I quickly invited the neighbors over to my house. From a large box, I took out several radios I had repaired over the past few weeks — old sets they had once given me, broken and forgotten. I placed them on a wooden bench and began turning the metal buttons, adjusting the metal antennas one by one. Slowly, voices and music began to rise. People leaned in, eyes wide, smiles spreading across their anxious faces.
When the power was restored, everyone thanked me for bringing them music. However, I shook my head and said, “It wasn’t just me — it was Grandpa.” I began telling them how he had fixed his first radio before and how he passed that quiet love down to my mother. As I spoke, everyone listened carefully and nodded in agreement. That night, I understood something deeper: fixing radios wasn’t only about sound or skill — it was about connection. In moments of silence or trouble, these old radios carried more than news or music; they carried the stories of who we are. And as long as someone keeps tuning in, that story will continue.
