At the beginning of my Senior Two, I received my letter from the New York University (NYU) exchange program, and I was very relieved (如释重负的). I finally had the chance to take high level courses, experience college student life, and gain some extra credit. My aim was to learn the basics of accounting, economics, marketing, and psychology.
When I arrived, I found that there were only 30 students in the program. I was so excited, but also nervous. I was worried that I would not make friends in my new environment. However, I turned out to be totally wrong. NYU hosts free events every week, giving students the chance to meet new people and explore New York City. My favorite events were the Broadway show trips. But there were always a limited number of spots. Therefore, I had to sign up online as soon as I received the reminder and hope that I would be chosen to go.
This summer I have watched ten Broadway shows, including To Kill a Mockingbird, Aladdin, and Frozen. Actually, I was fully attracted by the shows. Watching a performance almost every week was so amazing. On the way to the different shows, I always met someone new and we’d often chat about our lives. I was so thankful for making so many new friends.
By the time the shows were finished, it was usually late at night. However, I wasn’t scared as Times Square was always so busy, filled with people and lights. This summer was the best ever and I certainly caught a glimpse (一瞥) into college life at NYU. Surprisingly, it is not as scary as I thought.

By drawing patterns on the surface of a cup of tea, chabaixi (茶百戏), an ancient Chinese tea trick displayed in a recent TV drama, has gone viral for its apparent similarity with modern coffee art. However, ten years ago, this distinctive technique was close to disappearing. Zhang Zhifeng, a practician of chabaixi, found scenes of chabaixi in the drama aroused great interest among ordinary people.
Chabaixi can create endless patterns such as bamboos and mountains or even calligraphy. There are over a dozen steps, from grinding (碾碎) tea for fine powder, to pouring boiled water, stirring the mixture for thick froth (泡沫), and finally drawing the patterns. It is different from making coffee because people use clear water as the object to put into the cup instead of milk. But when the water touches the surface of whipped (搅打起泡的) tea, it turns into a white color and disappears in 20 minutes. The process before the drawing is known as the tea—making technique, diancha. The quality of diancha is crucial to whether patterns can be successfully produced later.
“Chabaixi is one of the countless forms of tea-making techniques in China. The importance of chabaixi is not only that this technique is unique in the world, but also it gives us a window into people’s lifestyle in the Song Dynasty, a period of time when leisure activities in some ways are similar to what we have now,” Zhang said.
Before chabaixi was discovered by TV audiences, the technique was listed as part of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017, after it was recovered by Zhang Zhifeng. He started researching the origins of chabaixi in the 1980s and brought the technique back in 2009 after decades of trials and practice.
“To let this technique fade would be a shame. It must be passed on to the next generations so they can understand its history,” Zhang said.

More than 10 million Chinese cultural relics have been lost overseas, lots of which were stolen and illegally shipped out of China during the times of war before 1949. About 1.67 million pieces are housed in no more than 200 museums in 47 countries, which accounts for 10 percent of all lost Chinese cultural relics, and the rest are in the hands of private collectors.
Most of these treasures are owned by museums or private collectors in the United States, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asian countries. There are more than 23,000 pieces in the British Museum, most of which were stolen or bought for pennies more than 100 years ago.
The major method to recover these national treasures was to buy them back. In some cases, private collectors donated the relics to the government. Also, the government can turn to official channels to demand the return of relics.
In 2003, a priceless bronze pig’s head dating from the Qing Dynasty was returned to its home in Beijing after it was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 140 years ago. Macao entrepreneur Stanley Ho donated 6 million yuan to buy it back from a US art collector and then donated it to the Poly Art Museum in Beijing.
Although buying-back is the most feasible way to recover the lost treasures, limited funding is always a big headache.
In recent years, the Chinese government has improved efforts to recover the precious cultural relics lost overseas. It has started a national project on the recovery of the treasures and has set up a database (数据库) collecting relevant information. It has signed several international agreements with many countries on this matter, and is also looking for international cooperation to recover the relics by working closely with several international organizations.
32.What is the passage mainly about
A.The best way to recover cultural relics.
B.The efforts to recover Chinese cultural relics.
C.Stanley Ho donated a bronze pig’s head to Beijing.
D.Chinese cultural relics were stolen by the Anglo-French Allied Army.
33.What we can know about the bronze pig’s head
A.It was made in the Ming Dynasty.
B.It is now in the Poly Art museum in Beijing.
C.It was donated by the French government to China.
D.It was removed by the Anglo-French Allied Army over 150 years ago.
34.What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Possible. B.Difficult. C.Wonderful. D.Careful.
35.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.China has enough money to buy all the cultural relics back.
B.Many countries have returned the lost cultural relics to China for free.
C.The Chinese government has done a lot to recover the lost cultural relics.
D.China is preparing to set up a database to collect information about the lost cultural relics.

Marmi, my big sister, was eagerly looking for a pup (小狗) to look after and love all her life, so she would ask Mummy many times for a pup of her own, but the answer was always no. You see, my mum is not very fond of dogs, never has been, and always says they're too big a responsibility. She's just not a dog person. Well, that didn't stop my sister from looking or hoping for a dog. She used to search online for her favourite breed (品种). Until one day Marni found some Cavapoo pups advertised for sale. She immediately showed Mummy and begged to go and see them. Not sure how my sister persuaded her, but to our surprise, Mummy said we could go and have a look at them but not to get high hopes. Marni rushed everyone in the car before Mummy changed her mind. Off we sped to the advertised breeder's house which luckily wasn't too far.
We got to the house and I bet I could hear my sister's heart dancing with excitement. As we rang the doorbell, we could hear cute little barks coming from inside. We went in and saw lots of little black pups excitedly jumping around. There were other people there too, so we needed to choose one fast if you know what I mean. It was rather crowded but the breeder let us hold and cuddle (搂抱) the pups. The breeder handed a little confident pup to Marni. The little pup seemed an old friend with my sister. But after a lot of cuddles, Mummy said we had to go and would have to think about it.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
As we were walking towards the door, the little pup followed my sister.

续写 【答案】
As we were walking towards the door, the little pup followed my sister out. The moment when she just wanted to get on the car, the pup ran to her and swayed her tail. She kept licking Marmi as if to beg her to take her home. After Marmi persuaded Mummy again and again, Mummy obliged to raise her. She immediately curled at my sister’s feet, gazing at everyone. Mummy told Marmi care and love are responsibilities.
The little pup made a mess (杂乱) of our home. Each blanket had been damaged and the corner of our pillows had a jagged hole. Things became complicated. Mummy called the breeder and told him she had changed her mind. On hearing that, Marmi was sad and she promised Mummy she would train her. As Marmi followed the instructions the breeder gave, the pup made strides in the months. She no longer tried to get on the bed, but she did like sitting in the folding chairs. Since then, she had become a friend of our family. We were animal lovers.

M: Last summer I went to Miami Beach, Florida, where I stayed for two weeks. My friend John and I flew to Miami from New York in three hours. It was the first time for both of us to travel by air. We sat near the window of the plane and enjoyed an unusual and beautiful view of the world. We went there because the cost was lower. We stayed at a hotel on the beach. We slept late every morning and then had breakfast outdoors near the pool. When the weather was not too hot, we went sightseeing in the morning. In the afternoon, we would go swimming in the ocean, lie in the sun, or go water-skiing. After dinner in the evening, we usually went dancing or enjoyed ourselves in the nightclubs. The two weeks went by (流逝) too quickly. We were both very sorry when we had to leave.
