Dear Chris,
Leaning that you are coming to China as an exchange student for one year,I can't describe
how excited I am.I would like to say "Welcome to China"and I really admire your courage. As to
your concerns and anxiety about your study and life in China,I,delighted and honored,am
writing to offer you some practical advice.
First of all, when it comes to study,it's strongly suggested that you (should)get positively
involved in class and review what you are taught in class.Additionally, you might as well read
some Chinese books, which,I'm deeply concerned, can not only contribute to your improvement
in Chinese, but also make you have a better understanding of Chinese culture.Last but not least,
when it comes to life,we can't emphasize the importance of taking physical exercise too much.
By doing sports, you can relieve your heavy burden of study, and at the same time you can refresh
yourself mentally and physically.
From my perspective,I am eager for your arrival and I-believe the experience will be
wonderful and make a different to your life.Looking forward to your earliest reply.
Yours sincerely,

Camping is a rite of passage( 成人礼 ) if you grow up in Canada. It's a child's first taste of what living in the wild really means. But growing up as an immigrant( 移民 )from India I thought it was strange. I simply didn't understand why so many people loved nature when the comfort of your home still existed.
Then I turned 20 and started trying new things. I had been experiencing mental health issues for quite some time and I discovered being out in nature helped me calm down. So,I decided to try camping.
The night before the trip I was quite excited. Then I overheard a conversation between my father and mother. “why does she have to do this Doesn't she know she can just stay at home " my father asked. “This is what Canadian kids do. it's okay, she' ll be
fine!" my mom explained. My parents had no faith in me surviving one night in the wild.
My friends and I set up our campsite in the woods. As the day went on, we ate, played by the water and met our camping neighbors. Time felt like it slowed down: life felt gentler and easier. Suddenly, I realized:I was doing it! I was camping! As the day turned into night, the stars came out and I was amazed by all the twinkling lights above me. I won't lie. I had the worst sleep of my life. Morning came and I was up and ready to make breakfast, coffee and tea. I didn't even realize I was sad to leave until we started packing everything up.
I wasn't just leaving, having accomplished something I never thought I would do. Iwas leaving with a real sense of community, a real sense of appreciation for what the great outdoors had to offer, and a completely different outlook on an activity that I had thought strange for so many years. It made me realize the beauty of Canada wasn't in the things we did, but in the community we built.

As people travelling by air become increasingly aware of their carbon footprint, flying has become not only one of the most polluting industries, but also one with the most potential to turn things around.
After Solar Impulse 2 completed the world's first flight by a solar-powered aircraft in 2016, airlines and aircraft producers looked to become the first to provide a commercial plane. Bertrand Piccard, one of the pilots responsible for Solar Impulse 2's journey, said“All the clean technologies we've already had can be used everywhere. We have to use them, not only for the environment, but also because they are profitable and able to create jobs.”
The following year saw many projects in the aviation (航空 ) field as the airline industry acknowledged the future of low-carbon transportation methods. In 2017, ZunumAero, a small aviation company which focused on delivering a range of hybrid-electric(混合电动的 ) planes received financial aid from JetBlue and Boeing, whilst EasyJet teamed up with Wright Electric to develop battery-powered aircraft and NASA also announced its plans to develop its own electric aircraft.
Orkney Islands, lying about 20 miles north of the Scottish mainland, are rich in renewable resources, especially the wind energy, Loganair, a Scottish airline, is cooperating with aviation companies to make Orkney the world's first fully electric airline routes. However, this is never easy. Due to the limited size and weight of a battery that an airplane can carry, airplane producers are faced with a bottleneck-the continued power supply for electric airplanes. They believe the abundant wind energy in Orkney could be the key to solving it.
The benefits of electric air travel transcend its low-carbon emissions. Aviation experts believe these aircrafts' power source will also mean they will be less noisy and smaller, require less maintenance costs, and need a shorter runway to take off and land-this could lead to more airports in small cities and more rural areas being connected to the world at large.
61. What did Bertrand want to convey in his words
A. The future of aircraft pilots.
B. The significance of using renewable energy.
C. The convenience of commercial planes.
D. The success of Solar Impulse 2.
62. How did EasyJet carry out the low-carbon transportation methods
A. By asking for financial support from banks.
B. By improving the technology on its own.
C. By purchasing patents from other countries.
D. By working together with another company
63. What will airplane producers probably do to make Orkney's electric airline routes a reality
A. Build more coal-fired power stations.
B. Use natural resources to charge airplanes.
C. Develop shorter airline routes.
D. Increase the size of battery.
64. What does the underlined word“transcend" in Paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Differ from. B. Rely on.
C. Go beyond. D. Refer to.
65. What's the benefit of electric planes besides its green footprint
A. Making the world more connected.
B. Making the flying time shorter.
C. Making plane tickets cheaper.
D. Making the plane maintenance easier.

In 1999, Google hired its 53rd employee called Charlie Ayers. This employee was unique. He didn't develop software, nor did he have business knowledge. In fact, he just worked for a famous band. But Charlie won a cooking competition held by the company. Then, he became the company's chef. He would help Google feed its employees. Since then, Google's policy of free snacks has been copied.
This policy may make sense for some companies since employees don't need to travel far to eat. The companies think it can also improve traffic during lunch hour. But firms' free-snack policy has been attacked by politicians. They believe it extremely reduces the number of customers of local restaurants, which causes many of them to break down and eventually harms the relevant industries. So officials are preventing Facebook opening a canteen at its new campus.
There have been many theories explaining what motivates firms to provide free snacks. Some argue it's a firm's dirty trick to keep workers working for longer hours.Others argue it's about helping the firm attract talents. Still others say rich firms are just generous and that their generosity, in turn, makes their workers happier and more productive. All of these may contribute to the firms' free snacks.
Google says its food system is about promoting teamwork and creativity. The idea is that it provides chances to bond and exchange ideas when employees randomly meet and eat together. This. they believe, encourages creativity. While free snacks might increase the amount of time employees spend in the office, the theory that it increases creativity lacks evidence. Actually, evidence suggests unlimited candy and chips in the break room will affect people's cognitive (认知的 ) performance , which might eventually prevent workers from thinking intelligently. It's no wonder that some Google's competitors rejected the food policy.
If companies want workers to exchange ideas, regular meals can make it. A better food system for companies is one where workers would be given a gift card for food purchases. Some colleges have a similar food system, which offers discount to fruit and vegetables and places an extra cost on junk food-junk food, after all, could end up increasing the company's health insurance bills.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. The same is true for snacks.
66. Why does the author mention Charlie Ayers in Paragraph 1
A. To introduce the background of the passage.
B. To expand understanding of the topic.
C. To lead into the topic of the passage.
D. To show the structure of the passage.
67. What do politicians think of firms' free-snack policy
A. It does increase the employees' creativity.
B. It's beneficial to local transportation.
C. It brings negative effect on local restaurants.
D. It strengthens the unity of the firms' employees.
68. What's Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The importance of the free-snack policy.
B. The possible causes of some firms' free-snack policy.
C. The benefits of free-snack policy to workers.
D. The oppositions to the free-snack policy.
69. Why do some companies decline the free snack policy
A. They think it weakens employees' creativity.
B. They consider it a big financial burden.
C. They are unaware of its positive influence.
D. They find it unattractive to many employees.
70. Which of the following will the author agree with
A. Companies should increase their insurance bills on workers.
B. Colleges' food systems tend to be superior to companies'.
C. Free snacks are unnecessary in the companies.
D. A good food system can give discounts to any food.

In the years of my growing up, Dad was strict with me. He made sure I made my bed and did my homework. He would call in advance to make sure there was no alcohol at the party. I got so angry with him for laying down the law. I would scream, “I hate you!” Dad would yell back, “Good! I don't care!” Deep down I knew he did.
One time at a party, I drank too much alcohol and got so sick. I said, “ Call my dad.” Next thing, Dad was carrying me to the car. I woke up the next morning, thinking I would definitely be criticized. As expected, I got a roasting, but I now understand why I need discipline.
Dad was 29 when he got his big roles in films. I had an early start at the age of nine with a role in a 1990s TV series, but it wasn't until I finished film studies that I pursued my career as an actress. Like those early days for Dad,I faced lots of rejections. Working in such a competitive industry, I've sometimes thought, “I can't do this any more.”
Once, after a trip to Hollywood, I returned to Australia so depressed and spent months in my bedroom painting, listening to Eckhart Tolle's music and trying to find myself again. Dad sat me down and said, “Alice, I know it's hard, but it's all about persistence(坚持不懈).”
Now I get to work with Dad a lot, which I love. We are both passionate about acting, which comes from us being so interested in people. If it weren't for Dad, I wouldn't be where I am today. He's my biggest fan, and when you have that in your life you can go a long way.
