A German young man named Joel Mikael Walker (Chinese name: Wu Ming) went viral on social media afte r using traditional Chinese medical techniques to revive a woman who collapsed while hiking.
When the woman collapsed due to cardiac arrest, Walker quickly turned to traditional Chinese emergency methods for her, as CPR might not have been as effective and there was a risk of rib fractures (肋骨骨折) on the hard ground. Walker phoned his teacher Song Zhaopu and, under his remote guidance, sprayed cold water on her face and patted her cubital fossa (肘窝). After over 20pats, the woman's pulse started to return, and she could spea k a few words.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) holds that tapping the cubital fossa can clear meridians(经脉) and imp rove the flow of qi and blood. Spraying cold water on the face was an ancient method to revive someone by stimu lating the skin.
Joel Mikael Walker, a Henan University of Chinese Medicine graduate, is fluent in the Henan dialect and committed to promoting TCM globally. Driven by a desire to gain a deeper insight into the origins of Chinese culture, Walker came to Central China's Henan province in 2015, where a profound TCM culture can be enjoyed because Henan province is a crucial cradle of Chinese culture and the hometown of Zhang Zhongjing, the medical sage of ancient China. After one-year of intensive learning the Chinese language, he decided to dig into TCM and enrolled in the HenanUniversity of Chinese Medicine as he thought some diseases can't be treated thoroughly wit h Western medicine. In the early stages, Walker always tasted some Chinese herbal medicine by himself, just like Shen Nong, a character in Chinese legend, who tasted most of the herbal medicine himself to know their propertie s and therapeutic effects.
His actions highlight the potential of TCM in emergency care, earning him the nickname“German Henanes e”. Faced with newfound fame and praise online, Walker humbly said, “It's not me. It's the profound wisdom of the ancients. I just apply what my teacher taught me.” He believed being a doctor means constantly gaining and te sting experience through practice.
Why didn't Walker use CPR to save the collapsed woman
He thought it was useless.
He followed his teacher's advice.
He found the situation unsuitable.
He didn't know how to perform it.

Five years have passed since the disastrous fire that destroyed the Notre Dame cathedral inParis, reducing its top, roof, and wooden framework to ashes. With the reopening of Notre Dame,a controversial plan to charg e admission has emerged.
France's Culture Minister Rachida Dati has proposed a 5-euro entrance fee for tourists. The intention behi nd this is to generate funds for the preservation of not only Notre Dame but also the numerous other broken chu rches across the country.
The Notre Dame, an architectural treasure of the 12th century and often regarded as“the soul of France”, has traditionally been a free attraction. After the extensive five-year restoration project following the 2019 fire, it stands ready to welcome visitors again. Dati anticipated that the fee could add up to 75 million euros annually, which would be invested into restoring France's broken religious buildings. Indeed, many of Europe's most ren owned cathedrals already levy (征收) entrance charges.
Nevertheless, the proposal has encountered significant opposition. The Roman Catholic Church in France has firmly opposed it, arguing that churches should be open to all without charge. Legal experts have also cast doubt on its legality. The Notre Dame released a statement emphasizing that churches must “welcome all, unco nditionally— thus necessarily free of charge—— regardless of religion, belief, opinions and financial means”.
In France, out of the 42,000 Catholic churches, a large number are in a state of disrepair due to ignorance, fire, and deliberate damage. Despite government initiatives and substantial investments to restore 8,000 sites, many churches continue to hang by a thread.
Dati added that the fee would be only dedicated to a comprehensive preservation plan forFrance's r eligious heritage. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau has voiced his support, stating that if“5 euros can save France's heritage and landscape, that's a good thing”.
Why did Rachida Dati propose an admission fee for Notre Dame
To cover the costs of the 2019 fire restoration.
To follow the examples of other European cathedrals.
To make it a more popular and famous tourist attraction.
To raise funds for the preservation of religious buildings in France.
What can be inferred from the opposition to the admission fee proposal
There are concerns about its legal and fair aspects.
French government has no right to make decisions.
The public believe that it is against religious beliefs.
The Roman Catholic Church wants to exercise its power.
What does the underlined phrase“hang by a thread” in paragraph 5 mean
Be in a stable condition.
Be at the edge of disaster.
Be with hope and certainty.
Be beyond the range of vision.

In response to the fear, OpenAI plans to become a public benefit corporation, which is a traditional for-profit company with one key difference. This idea— some call it interest group governance— has attracted 15,000 companies globally, which are dedicated to using business as a force for good.
However, Andrew Kassoy, a co-founder of the Benefit Corporation movement, argues thatOpenAI 's approach alone is not enough. While becoming a public benefit corporation is a step forward, it is just the basic standard for any AI company. Andrew Kassoy said OpenAI must take further measures. Firstl y, clearly define its purpose in the business license and maintain standards when choosing business part ners. Secondly, commit to transparent and annual impact reporting.Lastly, construct a reliable legal stru cture.

Mack, a first-grader, was totally fascinated by a soccer match on Television and desperately wanted such a soccer uniform. “How many players are required for playing the match What does the goal keeper do… ” are th e simple questions asked frequently.
The questions made his parents realize his passion for sports. He is also a naughty, disobedient little boy. Whatever he desires, he urges his parents to purchase it in an instant. “Mom, I want a soccer uniform. I would go out to play with my friends and can have fun in playing with them.” He begged his mother. “Ok.” said his mother. “Such uniforms are not available in general. We would plan to get them shortly, but you need to have patience.”
The days are passing by, but no response from parents. He feels disappointed. All his dreams seemed to fal l apart. He kept thinking how to achieve it as early as possible.
A sparkling idea strikes his mind. He could paint one of his uniform while his mother is busy! One day, as usual, she had a very busy work schedule. It takes a few hours to spare time with him. When he decided to paint, he just picked up one of his trouser. He's good with computers. He picked a cool soccer image with the national fl ag and drew a circle on his pants using a bowl. He painted it carefully, making sure the colors didn't spread to the other side. The result was a neat soccer ball design on his school uniform, with a dark color for the finishing touc

A 篇
根据文中“Best-known for the mystery of massive stone heads that line itscoast, Easter Islan d (Rapa Nui) was home to a thriving Polynesian civilization...”, 说明复活节岛因沿海排列的神秘的巨大石像而闻名,这是它突出的特点。
根据文中“When the woman collapsed due to cardiac arrest, Walkerquickly turned to t raditional Chinese emergency methods for her, as CPR might not havebeen as effective and there was a ris k of rib fractures on the hard ground.”
根据第四段“Driven by a desire to gain a deeper insight into the origins ofChinese culture, Walker came to Central China's Henan province in 2015, where a profoundTCM culture can be enjoyed...”, 说明沃克是在想要对中国文化的起源有更深层次的理解的驱使下,来到中国河南学习汉语并在后来开始学习中医。干扰项 D 不是正确答案,本段中确实提到了 “… as he thought some diseases can't be treated th oroughly with Western medicine.”
Faced with newfound fame and praise online, Walker humbly said, It's not me. It' s the profound wisdom of the ancients. I just apply what my teacher taught
me.””可以看出,面对网上的名气和赞扬,他很谦虚,认为是古人的智慧, 自己只是运用了老师教的东西; 再根据倒数第二段 “Walker always tasted some Chinese herbal medicine byhimself, just like Shen Non g...”,和最后一段 “He believed being a doctor means constantlygaining and testing experience through practice.”

Despite governmentinitiatives and substantial investmen ts to restore 8,000 sites...

Mack's eyes widened in disbelief, she appreciated his creativity and effort. She smiled, running her fing ers over the detailed design. “You know, Mack,” she said, “your actions, while a bit naughty, show me how much you love soccer and how determined you are to achieve your goals.” She paused for a moment, her eye s sparkling with pride. Mack let out a joyful scream as he hugged his mother, grateful for her understanding and support.
