Badminton, a newcomer to the Paralympics (残奥会),first appeared at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and expanded to
16 events in Paris last year. Yet, China's para-badminton team is among the best, leading the sport with its great
achievements in Paralympic badminton.
In Paris, China's para-badminton team successfully defended all five gold medals they won in Tokyo. They showed
their strength by winning a total of nine golds, two silvers, and one bronze across 14 events. Among the team's key players
were Liu Yutong and Yin Menglu. They faced their old rivals (竞争对手),who had beaten them in the final at the Tokyo
Paralympics. This time, however, they claimed the gold medal, showing their growth and determination.
Their success was due not only to their hard work but also to the training from Qu Fuchun, their coach. Qu is a
former para-badminton player himself and has spent over ten years living and training with his athletes since he retired.
His experience as a para-athlete gives him useful insights that help his coaching.
44 Wheelchair badminton started relatively late in China, and we don*t have many training methods to follow. We have
to find our own way,“ said Qu Fuchun. He emphasizes the importance of preventing injuries during training. Before each
match, he leads his athletes through a warm-up routine that he created himself to help them stretch and prepare. This

For nearly a century, laboratory studies have shown that animals live longer by eating less food or eating less often.
Scientists have struggled to understand why restrictive (限制性的')diets extend lifespan and how to implement them in
humans. A Jackson laboratory study, published in Nature, tracked nearly l .000 genetically diverse mice on various diets to
explore these cficcts.
Researchers assigned the mice to different diets : unrestricted, 60% or of baseline calories daily y or no food for
one or two days a week with unrestricted eating on the other days. The results showed that mice on an unrestricted diet had
the shortest average lifespan of 25 months, while those eating 60% of baseline calories lived the longest9 with an average
lifespan of 34 months. Mice that maintained weight on restrictive diets lived (he longest, while those losing the most weight
had lower energy, weakened immune systems, and shorter lives.
“Tliis suggests that lower caloric intake significantly extended lifespan and moderate level of calorie restriction might be the
way to balance long-tenn health and lifespan/* said the lead researcher Cary Churchill. "It also highlights the importance of
resilience. M
Moreover, the study found wide lifespan variations within each group. Mice eating the fewest calories, for instance,
had lifespans ranging from a few months to four and a half years. To explain this, the researchers worked further to analyze
the rest of their data, finding that genetic factors had a greater impact on lifespan than diets, which challenges
conventional views on diet and longevity (长寿),suggesting that underlying genetic features, such as immune system
health and red blood cell traits, are more inexlricably linked to lifespan than weight or body fat percentage.
Karl Johansson, another researcher, concluded that while caloric restriction is generally good for lifespant weight loss
due lo it may be bad for longevity. He noted, ulf you want to live a longer time, there are things you can control within
your lifetime such as diet, but what you really want is a very old grandmother. M

Global wanning has led to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as heat waves,
heavy rainfall and droughts, impacting human health and ecosystems. To determine how much global wanning has
contributed to heat waves in the U. S. and elsewhere in recciH years and to design effective solutions, AI was utilized by
researchers al Stanford University and Colorado Slate University.
In their method, which was(letailc
maximum temperatures based on real-world refiintial weather and global mean temperature. They then estimated how much
hotter heal waves would be if the exact same weal hen conditions that had caused past heat waves occurred under higher
levels of global wanning.
They first tested their AI inelhod on the 2023 Texas .heal, wave t which led to a record number of heat-relalcd deatlis
that year, finding that global wanning increased the heat wavo^Cinperalure by 1.18 lo 1.42℃ compared to a non-climate
change scenario. The AI also accurately predicted the intensity oUr^rord-setting heat waves in other regions. The team
warned that if global temperatures rose by 2. 0℃ above prc-induslriaf 啖els, some of the worst heat waves over the past 45
years could happen multiple times per decade. Global temperature is currently approaching 1. 3 ℃ above pre-industrial
levels.
“While AI hasn't solved all the scientific challenges, it bridges the gap between ihe actual meteorological (气象的)
conditions and climate models, enabling us to conduct more generalized virtual experiments on the Earth system and
providing valuable insights for climate scientists and policymakers alike/' said the study's lead author Noah DifFenbaugh, a
professor at Stanibrd University.
To gain deeper insights into how human emissions afTect extreme weather and to better prepare for the future, the
team intends to apply this method lo other extreme weather events and enhance Al networks for higher forecasting
accuracy, including quantifying unccrtaifilics in AI predictions.
32. How did the researchers train the AI models
A. By predicting daily niaxiinum temperatures. B. By creating their own data exclusively.
C. By analyzing satellite t(nnperalure images. D. By employing data from a previous database.
33. What can we know from paragraph 3
A. Global temperature has risen by 1.3℃ so far. B. Global wanning has caused hotter heal waves.

From that moment on, Lily made it her mission to bring a spark of Joy back into Margaret's life.
Every Saturday, she would come to the park with her colorful drawings, each one depicting a
cheerful scene-blooming flowers, sunny picnics, and playful puppies. At first, Margaret sat quietly,
watching Lily paint with a faint smile. But as Lily encouraged her to join in, something magical
happened. With each stroke of the brush on the canvas, Margaret rediscovered her own creative
spirit. Slowly but surely, laughter began to fill the air as they painted together, transforming
Margaret's once heavy heart into one that was light and full of joy.
As weeks turned into months, Margaret 3 world brightened. Inspired by their shared moments
of creativity, they decided to organize a community art day at the park. With Lily's enthusiasm and
Margaret's gentle guidance, they gathered children and adults alike, inviting them to express
themselves through art. The event was a vibrant tapestry of colors and laughter, where Margaret met
other residents, forging friendships she hadn't thought possible. As she painted alongside her new
friends, Margaret realized that life, even after loss, could be rich and fulfilling, woven together by
the threads of connection and shared joy.
