I had the meanest (最刻薄的) mother in the world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal (谷类食物). But at least I wasn’t alone. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did. But we all proud of being her children.
My mother knew where we were at all times. She knew who our friends were.
We had to wear clean clothes and take a bath every day. The other kids could wear the same clothes for days.
We had to be in bed by 9:00 pm and get up at 7:00 am. We couldn’t sleep till noon like our friends. So while they slept, our mother gave us work to do. We had to wash the dishes, make beds and learn to cook. I was sure she stayed awake at night, thinking up mean things to do to us.
Through the years, things didn’t improve a bit. We could not lie in bed to pretend(假装) to be “sick” like our friends did in order to miss school.
Because my mother was the meanest mother. All of us went on to higher education. None of us have ever done bad things. She forced us to grow up into educated and honest people. 第三部分 书面表达(共两节, 满分30分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)
阅读下面短文, 完成短文后的问题。
If you spend some time in an English speaking country, you might hear the term “etiquette”. It means normal and social behavior. This may seem like a difficult word at first, but it can be very useful to understand.
Etiquette is not the same in every culture or in every situation. For example, standing very close to the person you are talking with is quite common in some Asian countries. However, if you do this in Europe, some people might feel uncomfortable. Even in China, we all know that etiquette is not the same in all situations. Perhaps we think that talking loudly in our own homes is fine, but there are other places where talking loudly is not allowed. For example, most people would agree that talking loudly in a library, a museum or a movie theater is impolite. Even if you are with your friends, it is better to keep your voice down in public places.
If we see someone breaking the rules of etiquette, we may politely give them some suggestions. One of the most polite ways is to ask someone, “Would you mind doing this ” or “Would you mind not doing that ” People don’t usually like to be criticized, so we have to be careful how we do this.
Although rules of etiquette can often be different, some rules are the same almost everywhere in the world! For example, dropping litter is almost never allowed. If you see someone you know doing this, you can ask him, “Would you mind picking it up ”
41. What does the underlined word “etiquette” probably mean
42. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2
43. If your friend talks loudly in the museum, what would you say to him/her
44. In which countries can people stand close to the person they are talking with
45. What does the writer think of “etiquette” in the last paragraph

Dear Tom,
I’m very happy to hear that you’re coming to China next week. Let me tell you something about customs and manners in our country.
As we all know, different countries have different customs. So the manners in China are very different from those in your country. First, Chinese are supposed to shake hands when we meet for the first time. Then we greet each other. After that, you can talk about something relaxing. But you are not supposed to talk about someone’s salary, age and so on. Second, we couldn’t begin to eat until all the people are here. We use chopsticks to have meals and you shouldn’t point at others with your chopsticks at the table. I hope you’ll have a wonderful time in China.
Look forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
