Another person's enthusiasm(热情) was what set me moving toward the success I have achieved. That person was my stepmother.
I was nine years old when she entered our home in rural Virginia. My father 36 me to her with these words: "I would like you to meet the fellow who is 37 for being the worst boy in this county and will probably start throwing rocks at you no 38 than tomorrow morning."
My stepmother walked over to me, raised my head slightly upward, and looked at me right in the eye. Then she looked at my father and replied, "You are 39 . This is not the worst boy at all, 40 the smartest one who hasn't yet found an outlet(释放的途径) for his enthusiasm." That statement began a friendship between us. No one had ever called me smart. My family and neighbors had built me up in my 41 as a bad boy. My stepmother changed all that.
She changed many things. She advised my father to go to a dental(牙科) school, from which he graduated with honors. She moved our family into the county seat, where my father's career could be more 42 and my brother and I could be better 43 .
When I turned fourteen, she bought me a second﹣hand 44 and told me that she believed that I could become a writer. I 45 her for her enthusiasm because I thought it had already improved our lives. I accepted her belief and began to write for local newspapers. One day I was doing the same kind of 46 when I went to interview Andrew Carnegie and received the task which became my life's work later. And above all, I wasn't the 47 beneficiary(受益者). My father became the 48 man in our town. My brother and stepbrothers became a physician, a dentist, a lawyer, and a college president.
What power 49 has! When that power is there to support the certainty of one's purpose and is 50 strengthened by faith(信念), it becomes an irresistible(不可抗拒的) force which poverty and temporary failure can never match.
You can communicate the power with anyone who needs it. This is surely the greatest work you can do with your enthusiasm.

四、阅读理解 (共15小题, 每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Robots may seem smart, but they cannot even pick up a chess piece. Let’s take a look at some tasks that are easy for kids but not for robots.
Pick things up
Picking things up is not easy. If we drop our pencil on the floor, our brains work hard. First, we must find the pencil. Then we move our hands to it. A robot cannot always move its “hand” to the right place. When we touch the pencil, it might roll (滚动)a little bit. Robots cannot easily understand this either. So, if you drop a pencil on the floor, a robot will probably roll it around the room.
Get around in large space
If someone drops us in a building we’ve never been to, we might feel a bit lost. But we can look around, find a door and get out quickly. But a robot will look everywhere for a door, even on ceilings and floors. This is because it’s hard for them to understand spaces, especially large, blank things such as walls or ceilings.
Understand the world made by people
“Common sense” is what we don’t need to think or talk about. Because of common sense, we do not look for doors on the ceiling. We pick up a coffee cup by its handle (把手). We feel whether it has coffee inside, and whether it’s hot.
A robot It may turn the cup upside down. It may hold the hot part of the cup. Scientists have tried teaching robots common-sense rules. But even huge databases (数据库)don’t help much. Maybe they need more time to learn.
51.What will a robot do in order to find a door
A. Dig a big hole in the wall.
B. Only look for large and blank things.
C. Search everywhere even the ceilings.
D. Drop itself in a corner in the building.
52.What can we learn about common sense from the last two paragraphs
A. Robots can teach themselves common sense.
B. Robots have the same common sense as humans.
C. Scientists tried teaching robots common-sense rules.
D. Huge databases help much for robots to learn common sense.
53.What can we learn from the passage
A. Robots are not helpful to humans at all.
B. Robots are good at picking up small things.
C. It is easy for robots to understand large spaces.
D. Robots have trouble understanding our world.
B
Jacky feels different these days. He isn't as playful as usual and doesn't like to talk much. Some of us may feel like Jacky sometimes. When unexpected things happen, we can feel like this. There are also some other things that can put us in bad moods. Here are some examples. We might feel bad if we're not getting along well with our friends, or if we do poorly on an exam. Having bad moods too often can affect our mental(心理) health. The 4 habits below can harm our mental health.

For the best result, try to do no less than 30 minutes of exercise three to five times a week.

Being inside all day
Spending the most of our day indoors can increase our risk for depression.
Don't be afraid of having bad moods. The tips below can help us overcome them.
Accept our moods
No one can be happy all the time. Our friends and parents can also have bad moods sometimes. Bad moods are normal. Accept this first and then we can find ways to deal with them.
Let our bad feelings out
When we feel unhappy or upset, don't hide our feelings or pretend nothing is wrong. We can find a comfortable way to let them out.
We can talk to our parents or friends.
We can write about our feelings in our diary.
We can read our favourite books.
We can play sports or do some other kinds of activities.
Set a new goal
Messing up(搞砸) something can put us in a bad mood, too. But we can just try harder next time. For example:
We didn't win a soccer game. Try to score a goal next time.
We didn't do well on an exam. Try to get five more points next time.
We had an argument with our friend. Next time, try to talk to him or her in a nice way.

And many readers see famous mystery author Agatha Christie as Queen of Crime, whose stories are known for their tense environment and strong excitement and anxiety for readers and also have a great influence on the English mystery novels.
Christie was born in September 1890 in England. When she was growing up, her mother often told her stories. Christie loved these stories, which took her into a world of fantasy. Christie s mother also encouraged her to write from a young age and also took her to travel a lot.
She married Archie Christie in 1914 at the beginning of World War I. During the war, Christie wrote her first detective story: The Mysterious Affair at Styles. She chose the crime, and then invented a detective named Hercule Poirot, taking a position second to Sherlock Holmes, to solve it. She sent the book to a publisher, but it was refused.
After the war ended, Christie sent her book to more publishers, and finally, in 1920, one published it. She made just $25 for it. Over the next few years, Christie wrote more books and short stories, gaining experience as a writer. In spite of (尽管) her literary success, life was not going well at home. In 1928, Archie and Agatha separated. A short time later, she met a young man named Max Mallowan. Lisa stood next to her tall silent grandfather and watched her parents drive off, leaving her behind. She looked up at her grandfather. He looked down at her. His skin was a little darker than hers. His hair was black and white, as if it couldn’t decide which color it should be.
“You don’t talk much, Grandpa,” Lisa said.

Traditional Chinese culture is catching the world’s eyes. The good traditional Chinese culture is our great treasure. President Xi Jinping says we should have a high of culture confidence. There are so many great w81 in the course of Chinese history such as Di Zi Gui, Lun Yu, Meng Zi and so on. Xi Jinping and other leaders often borrow some wonderful s82 from them. Dao De Jing is also one of them.
Lao Zi, a famous Chinese philosopher and the founder of Taoism, was the w83 of Dao De Jing. There are only 5000 characters in the book, but it is considered as one of the oldest and most important philosophy books of ancient China. It i84 two parts, Dao and De.
Dao means "the Way". It doesn’t tell us how to choose the right way, but it really shows that one should act through naturalness and non-action.

De means “Virtue(德行)”. Lao Zi thought the great virtue is like water. And he thinks nothing in the world is w87 than water, yet nothing is stronger than water. When it comes, it can nearly destroy everything strong. In ancient China, there is also a s88 : Water can hold the boat, it can also make the boat turn upside down. Water is a typical e89 of the weak beating the strong.
Of course, there are many other wonderful things we can learn from the book. Today, Dao de Jing still plays a r90 in the development of Chinese thoughts. It is becoming more and more popular with people around the world.

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Paying for bus rides with plastic usually makes people think of plastic bus cards. But one Indonesian city has decided to accept plastic recyclable waste instead of money for city buses.
Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city, lying on the eastern end of the country's main island Java, made this decision in April 2018. Now, locals can pay for their bus rides by putting plastic cups or bottles directly on the bus. A two-hour bus ride costs 10 plastic cups or 5 bottles.
Indonesia is the second largest ocean plastic polluter, producing up to 2.4 million tons of plastic waste into the oceans every year, according to a report. Only in Surabaya, nearly 400 tons of plastic waste is produced every day. The head of Surabaya's transportation department (交通部门) said, "With this decision, we hope to raise public awareness about environment, especially people's awareness about plastic waste."
In Surabaya each city bus can collect up to 550 pounds of plastic bottles and cups every day. The collected bottles are sold to recycling companies and the money earned from it goes toward running the bus companies and providing money for green spaces in the city. This is certainly turning rubbish into a national treasure.
The decision is part of the city’s purpose to become plastic waste-free. In order to encourage local people to take buses, the city also added new Surabaya buses. The new buses are air-conditioned, comfortable and easy for elderly and disabled passengers to get on and off.
The program is well received. People in Surabaya said, "We can reduce waste so it doesn't pile up at home because we can just bring it in and make good use of it. It is a win-win situation."
This type of program can be a model for other worldwide cities and encourage citizens to recycle their plastic waste.
91.What can locals in Surabaya pay for bus rides instead of money now

In today’s programme, I’m going to tell you something about George Dawson and his book. George Dawson wrote a book called Life is so good. The book is full of stories from George’s life. George wrote it in 1998 when he was 100 years old. The most amazing part is that George learned to read just two years before he wrote the book. When George was 8, his father sent him to work. Life was hard for the poor American family. Food became more important than school. When George was 98, he heard about adults classes near his home. He still had a dream that he would learn to read. How To Make Our Spare Time More meaningful?
We Grade 9 students are now busy with our lessons, but we are supposed to make our spare time more meaningful. How should we spend our spare time?
First,we can take an active part in some social activities as volunteers to help those in need. For example, we can go to the nursing home to help the old people do some cleaning or shopping. Second,we can do some sports to make us stronger and healthier. I think running or playing basketball is good for us. Third, it’s also a good idea to join different clubs such as Space Club and Robot Club and choose any hobby we like.
In my opinion,it's good to help our parents do some housework to show our love to them. Moreover, it is a good chance for us to enjoy nature and relax ourselves.
In a word, let's make full use of our spare time and make it more meaningful
