Do you know a famous saying, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get.” The surprise is part of the fun. Now blind boxes are quite popular. Merchants (商家) fill the box with random (随机的) toys which usually come from movies, comics and cartoons. Many people like to buy them to find out what will be inside.
The earliest blind boxes were from Japan. Getting blind boxes was a New Year’s tradition. At that time, they called the blind box “a lucky bag”. Blind boxes were introduced to China in 2014. Most customers for blind boxes are young people aged 18 to 35.
Blind box toys are popular in part because of their cute appearances. The cute mini-sized cartoon figurines (小塑像) are suitable to place almost anywhere. What’s more, the mystery and uncertainty (不确定性) of the process also interests people. It’s the main reason why they are so popular.
Opening a blind box is a little surprise for our daily lives. When people open this little box, they may be disappointed, but the uncertainty is part of the fun. People will open more blind boxes and hope for a better outcome (结果). In fact, although the mystery boxes are full of fun, we should make a rational (理智的) decision when we buy them.

Hello, my friend! Let’s talk about what happiness is. Are you happy What is happiness I often think about this question. But some people always laugh at me because they think it is an easy question.
I often ask them, “What is happiness ” Some of them say to me, “You are foolish. The answer to this easy question is to have a lot of money.” When I get this answer, I do not feel glad. Some will ask me “why ” I will say “Well, having a lot of money isn’t a bad thing. Now some people begin to find jobs to make a living. They all want to be the second, the third, the fourth, even the fifth Bill Gates. Maybe they’re millionaires (百万富翁) now, but are they happy I don’t think so. If they want to be another Bill Gates, they must spend more time on their work and take less care of their families or other things. Though they have a lot of money, I don’t think they have a happy life.
Here is what I think happiness is. If you want to be a person with a lot of happiness, then try to be like this: Be a kind, helpful and friendly person. Well, the more work, the more rewards (回报). Let’s begin to work hard now. Try to be a good person and then you will not feel sorry for yourself when you are old. It’s the greatest happiness for everyone, I think. Working hard is good. But don’t forget your friends or your family after work. Share more time with them and you’ll have more happiness.

I remember her words, Mrs. Price, our high school teacher in that little town of Westminster, in Western Maryland, said, “You belong in college, and I’m going to do everything I can to get you there.” For me, college was something out of the question, something on a very far planet, something only, those people who had special rights did. I said, “I can’t go to college because I don’t have the money. I’m going to join the army.” Even though I was graduating at the top of my class in that small town, and enjoyed the experience of learning and thinking.
She said, “Maybe you have a gift that can make a difference in the world. I want you to continue your education. I think I can get you into Johns Hopkins University. And I’m working on the money.” Finally, I was off to college.
One day I was walking from the parking lot to my first class, talking with my friend and classmate, and we passed by a group of men who were digging a deep ditch. Suddenly, I knew why I was in college. She was right. I had a gift that could take me to wonderful places. I decided to make my living with my brain, because I had a choice they didn’t have: an education.
Some years ago, as I thought about the experience, it came to me: “Maybe I could find Mrs. Price. Maybe she’s still living in Westminster. I could go back there and visit her, bring her a gift, and really let her know how much I’m thankful for what she had done for me.”
So, I began to search online for information about where she might be. I soon discovered an article about her death, written in the Baltimore Sun and dated October 8, 2001.
I learn a lesson from my story: If you love someone; if you thank them; if you’re grateful to them, tell them now. One day it will be too late. Well...anyway...Mrs. Price, wherever you are, thank you.

How people travel and go on holiday has changed a lot over the past years. Airlines, hotels, travel agencies all have their own websites. People can plan and book their holidays in just a few clicks. Today everything is easier, faster and smarter,
In fact, many people do not use guidebook any more. Instead, they go to travel websites for the maps and information. When I fell and hurt myself, she gave me a hug and lifted me up.
When I was seven coughing badly, she said no ice-cream for me.
But I talked back loudly, “I should be allowed to eat some! Give it to me now!”
When I was nine watching scary movies, she said it’d give me awful dreams.

When I was a teen going out with friends, she said, “please be back by ten!”
But I shouted back angrily—“I should not be told what to do! I’m seventeen now!”
Now I’m an adult, thinking back to those times:
I coughed for days after eating that ice-cream.

My name’s David. This week I tried two new restaurants—Michelle’s and Anton’s. They are both French restaurants.
Michelle’s is a small place with about twenty tables. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly, and the service is excellent. I ordered chicken with orange sauce along with rice and a salad. Then I had a chocolate cake and coffee. The chicken was delicious, but the cake was too dry. The meal cost about thirty dollars.
Anton’s is a much bigger restaurant, and it was very crowded on that night. I waited twenty minutes for a table. Anton’s is noisier than Michelle’s, and the waiter was very slow with my meal. I ordered soup and a steak (牛排) with fried potatoes and vegetables. The soup wasn’t very hot. The steak was OK, but the vegetables weren’t very good. For dessert, I had ice cream. The meal was really expensive—about forty-five dollars.
Now you know why I would go to Michelle’s again, but not to Anton’s.

These days, more and more people like the “city walk” around China. City walk is a kind of city tour coming from the UK. It means tourists follow a planned route (路线) working deeply on the city’s history and culture. During traditional (传统的) kind of travel, people need to follow a group of people. But city walk routes are special for every tourist. They probably choose a route on their own and move on foot without a purpose (目的). They can also talk with locals (当地人) on their way.
City walkers may be tourists from other places or local young people. For tourists, by taking part in a city walk, they can understand the city’s history and culture. For the local young people, they may spend weekends getting a deeper understanding of their living places. And they even share their routes and places online. So more people know about their cities and come to visit them.
Why does city walk become so popular First, the young people want to look for quality happy time while being full of busy work and having less time to relax. Second, walking can make you have a healthier heart. And while walking along the road, you can listen to the voice inside and care about how you feel. At last, by “walking” on foot, city walkers can better feel the quality and listen to the place. They look for fun more through their feelings than buying something.
Now city walk is very hot. However, we also find that to make money, the tourist industry (旅游行业) may make some routes without understanding the culture and history of a city. That will make tourists lose interest in city walk. Besides, many young people spend much time taking photos to just show themselves online.

In the film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying: “Life is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re going to get.” ① The history of blind boxes can be back to lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. It becomes big business in China these days. The market for blind boxes could grow to 25 billion (十亿) yuan in 2025 from about 3 billion yuan in 2019. During the Double 11 shopping day, Pop Mart, a popular blind box company in China, sold 55,000 Labubu dolls in just 9 seconds.
Why do many people like blind boxes First, they have beautiful and cute looks inside the boxes. Second, they’re like miniature (微型的) cartoon characters. ② But another, perhaps more important reason is that the “surprise factor (因素)” makes them fun to buy. Sometimes, it’s a toy that you want. But sometimes, it’s not the one you want. Each of these small, closed boxes has one of many toys in it. The buyer doesn’t know what they can get until they open the box.“The most interesting thing about blind boxes is the gap (差距) between what you expect and what you get.” said Wen Xi, a blind box lover from Beijing.
Different people have different opinions (观点) about the blind boxes. Some people surely get much fun from the boxes, but others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys. If you really want something special from a blind box, you might not get it in the first box. So you buy another box, hoping that you’ll get the toy you want this time. Then you buy another, and another. Pretty soon, you’ve spent all your money. I think we have to be careful about it. Part of growing up is learning to control (控制) themselves, after all.
