读后续写
Paragraph 1:
After what seemed like hours, I felt a sigh of relief rush through my body. Emerging from the dense bush,
I found myself standing in a familiar place, the collection of sticks and stones from
our weekend adventures with my dad scattered around. It was then that I realized I had circled back
to our special spot. The familiar rustling of leaves and the cool air on my back reassured me
that I was indeed near home. In the foggy distance, a fuzzy but familiar figure stood still beneath the tall tree in
front of my house. It was my dad! I gathered all my strength and ran towards the house.
Paragraph 2:
“You are alive!” my dad shouted, “You are alive!” My dad’s voice echoed through the early
morning, filled with a mixture of relief and concern. I threw myself into the warm embrace of my worried father,
exhausted but relieved. He had been searching crazily for me as the night wore on. I shared my adventure, from the
mysterious screech to the challenging encounter with the river. My dad, though relieved, couldn’t
help but chuckle at my determination to explore even in the dead of night. From that day forward,
our weekend adventures became even more special, filled with stories the Australian sky.

W: I have the Flexi, but I only have two hundred dollars a month on it; my dad puts in 100 and I put in the

M: Well, you could use the saving from your summer job to buy the UMP --- it provides two meals a day at
any cafeteria for up to six dollars each.
W: Hmm. That's a possibility.
M: Or, of course, you could cook at the dorm.
W: But I don't have a car for the groceries.
M: Use the university store ---there are only a few things, but you can make some simple food.
W: I think I prefer the first choice. Thank you very much.
Text 10
Though St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most important holidays on the Irish calendar, the man
responsible for it was not Irish. Patrick was born in Britain from where he was sold to an Irish farmer
at 16. He escaped and returned to Britain a few years later. What’s interesting is that before his death,
he was largely unknown even in Ireland. However, over the next few centuries, tales of his amazing
deeds transformed him into a legendary figure.
St. Patrick’s Day, which has been observed in Europe since the 9th century, was traditionally
celebrated with prayers and a feast. On March 17, 1732, Boston officials decided that a parade along
the city’s main street would help Irish soldiers serving in American colonies to reconnect with their
country. While New York and Ireland did eventually adopt the tradition, St. Patrick’s Day was largely
unknown until the mid-1990s when the Irish government used it to promote tourism.
The one-day celebration proved to be wildly successful. Since 2010, even some popular sites like
China’s Great Wall and The Sydney Opera House have been celebrating the occasion by turning green
for a day.
