一、定义：1. 表示过去某时刻正在进行或发生的动作。
2.表示过去一段时间内正在进行的动作。
二、构成：
结构 例句
肯定式 主语+ was/were+ v-ing I am working. They are cleaning the house. He is crossing the road.
否定式 主语+ was/were +not+ v-ing They aren’t cleaning the house.
一般疑问形式 问：Was/Were+主语+ v-ing？ 答：Yes/No, 主语+was/were. ---Are they cleaning the house ---Yes, they are. / No, they aren’t.
特殊疑问形式 问：特殊疑问词+ was/were+主语+ doing？ 答：主语+was/were+ doing ---What are they doing ---They are cleaning the house.
三、过去进行时的用法
1.表示过去某个时间点正在发生的动作。常见的标志语：（at+时间点, at this time ）+ 过去时间; then(那时)；at that time （那时）;when/while+句子
They were playing football at 8:30 last Sunday / this time yesterday.
上星期日8点他们正在踢足球。
What was she doing at nine o‘clock yesterday
I was writing a letter at that time. 那时我正在写信。

3. 以when（当…的时候，在这时），while（与…同时）连接的从句

结构：was/were doing…when…did... = When…did..., ...was/were doing…
