Michael Todd wore the same clothes every day for the first three weeks of school. When the other kids began to notice that he was wearing the same black pants and blue, and gray long-sleeve shirt day after day, Todd, a freshman at Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School in Memphis, became the target of laughter. But there was little Todd could do. His mother simply couldn’t afford to buy him new clothes.
Two of the kids piling on were Antwan Garrett and Kristopher Graham, a pair of freshman football players. But over time, they realized that their unfavorable words felt like bullying (欺凌) and seemed to be slowly crushing (击垮) Todd’s spirit. Something finally clicked (被突然领悟) . “I felt like I needed to do something,” Graham told CBS News. So he and Garrett hatched a plan. They went home and hunted through their own drawers and closets.
The next day at school, they met Todd at their third-period class and asked him to come into the hall. Todd was understandably nervous about being called out by the larger boys. “He wasn’t smiling or anything, and I was like,’I think this is going to make you smile,’” Graham says. “I told him, ‘We’re in the same third period, and I apologize for laughing at you, and I want to give something to you to make it up.’” He then handed Todd a bag. Inside were clean shirts and shorts, plus a brand-new pair of New Balance sneakers.
Todd was blown away. “I was very happy,” he told CBS News. “Surprised and upset, completely.” And Todd got much more than a new wardrobe. He no longer sits alone at lunch. Now he eats with his new friends, Garrett and Graham.
“I’ve been bullied my entire life,” Todd told CBS News. Reflecting on the day Garrett and Graham called him into the hall, he called it “the best day of my entire life, basically.”

Health and fitness help a person live a good and healthy life. Often due to various pressures, we tend to ignore our health. This makes our body suffer and we will catch other diseases. It is the fitness level of our body that helps us fight these diseases.
Health and fitness are interrelated to each other. We need to be fit to have a healthy body.
Similarly, if we are healthy we shall naturally be attracted towards maintaining the fitness of our body. Health is the state of our body at a given time. We may not have any disease but still have a weak body, which is ready to be targeted by viruses. For instance, we may have a tendency to catch a cold easily. This does not definitely mean that we are not healthy. It means the fitness level is not in accordance with our age and the climatic conditions we live in.
It is important for everyone to devote some time to health and fitness. There are some activities which everyone should do in our life. For instance, we must exercise daily regardless of our age and working style. There are different levels of exercises for different age groups and we must do them according to our own health and age.
Additionally, it is important to relax our body. We should have at least six to eight hours of sleep every day. It helps in improving our immune(免疫) system and protects us against diseases. It also helps in keeping us calm and relaxes our mind. This, in turn, gives us new goals of health and fitness.

After entering high school, you may find there are many clubs (俱乐部) at your school. You may think you’re too busy to join one. But as a former high school student, I can tell you joining a school club can greatly benefit (有益于) you.
Your old friends may have left you after entering high school. And it means you need to meet new people. Joining a club allows you to talk with others and find those who have similar interests as you. Based on my experience, I have met some of my best friends from club activities which opened up many new doors for me.
Another really nice thing about joining a club is that it looks really good on your applications (申请书). Trying new things is something that looks really good on any application. Being outgoing is considered a very good quality, which shows that you are determined and willing to put yourself out there and best of all try new things. What’s more, it can help you develop skills that can serve you during future college interviews.
Besides, joining a club can make students use their free time wisely. Most teens go to schools, then go back home and spend the rest of the day in front of a screen. Teens are also very likely to fall into the wrong crowd, which could lead to some bad results. Clubs are good places to spend time, with good people to fall back on.
The most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefits it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. The skills you learn in clubs are necessary ones that can be used in everyday life, which I think is the final goal of joining a club. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, making the most of time, and being organized are those you will meet every single day of your life, but you can learn all of them in clubs.
So if you haven’t joined a school club yet, you know what you should do now.
12. What can we learn from the second paragraph
A. Friends should share common interest. B. Joining a club helps one make friends.
C. Joining a club benefits one’s mental health. D. Friends may leave each other sooner or later.
13. What does Paragraph 4 imply(暗示)
A. Teens today aren’t so interested in joining clubs.
B. Some classrooms are not big enough for students.
C. Doing club activities can help teens attend a good university.
D. Joining a club helps keep students away from doing bad things.
14. In the author’s opinion, what’s the greatest benefit of joining a club
A. Developing new hobbies. B. Meeting different people.
C. Getting useful life skills. D. Making use of your free time.
15. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To give tips on making new friends.
B To show ways to set up school clubs.
C To teach students to enjoy a better school life.
D. To encourage high school students to join a club.

Often due to various pressures we tend to ignore our health. This makes our body suffer and we will catch other diseases. It is the fitness level of our body that helps us fight these diseases.

B. To show ways to set up school clubs.
C. To teach students to enjoy a better school life.
D. To encourage high school students to join a club.

But there’s more.”(为什么运动 你可能会说“锻炼身体”,你是对的。 下文“According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who play sports get a lot more than just a good figure.”(根据女子运动基金会的说法,参加运动的女孩不只是身材好。) D.“In fact, there are at least 5 more reasons.”(事实上,至少还有5个原因。)
2.根据上文“Girls who play sports do better in school. You might think that playing sports will take up all your study time.”(做运动的女孩在学校表现更好。 下文“Exercise improves learning, memory, and concentration, which can give active girls an advantage in the classroom.”(锻炼可以提高学习能力、记忆力和注意力,这可以让活跃的女孩在课堂上占有优势。) G项“But research shows girls who play sports do better in school than those who don’t.”(但研究表明,参加体育运动的女孩比不参加体育运动的女孩在学校表现更好。)
下文“When you work with coaches, trainers, and teammates to win games and achieve goals, you’re learning how be successful.
根据下文“Playing sports can reduce stress and help you feel a little happier.”(运动可以减少压力,帮助你感觉更快乐。) A项“Exercise cuts the pressure.”(运动减少压力)切题。故选A。
