Fully aware of the difference between special education and general education, Xie provides specialized care to each student according to their physical conditions and helps them with learning and living. In 2013, Xie’s workload became heavier after she was assigned(指派) to work at the school’s rehabilitation (康复) center, which had been built ten years ago. She also spent lots of time training children with hearing and speech problems to work on their pronunciation.
Starting in 2015, the school carried out an activity of offering door-to-door education to students who could not attend school because of severe physical disabilities. Xie was among over 30 teachers tasked with tutoring(辅导) those students. Do you remember when Nelson Mandela died In the 1980s In the 1990s The answer is in 2013. The political figure was in prison from 1964 to 1990 before receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and being elected president in 1994. However, many people incorrectly remember him dying in prison in the 1980s, which is how the Mandela effect gets its name.
The Mandela effect is a phenomenon where a large number of people believe something happened, when in reality, it did not. For example, many people misremember details such as the color of a snack packet or the name of a TV show. A 2020 memory study found that 76% of adults made at least one detectable error when asked to recall information, demonstrating that memory is not accurate.
“The Mandela effect seems to be closely related to a number of well-known memory phenomena,” said Tim Hollins, a professor of experimental psychology at the University of Plymouth in the U.K. He named three similar types of memory-related phenomena: “false memory,” which is the creation of a memory that didn’t happen; “source-memory errors,” which is when someone forgets the true source of a memory; and “imagination inflation (膨胀),” which is the tendency to believe something is real when it is often or vividly imagined.
However, Hollins believes the phenomenon that is most closely connected to the Mandela effect is that of “gist memory,” which is when someone has a general idea of something but can’t necessarily remember the specifics. A common example relates to the monkey called Curious George, a children’s book character that first appeared in the 1940s, and his lack of a tail.
“Remembering Curious George as having a tail just reflects the fact that most monkeys have tails,” Hollins said. “If you just remember the gist-it’s a monkey-why wouldn’t you remember him having a tail ”
8. What contributes to the name of the Mandela effect
A. Mandela passed away in the prison.
B. Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize.
C. Mandela’s death was wrongly remembered.
D. Mandela’s political ideas were well-received.
9. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Experiments related to memory phenomena.
B. Psychological causes for the Mandela effect.
C. Memory problems leading to the Mandela effect.
D. Scientific explanation of memory-related problems.
10. What can we learn about our memory from the text
A. It is not as reliable as we think.
B. It can be improved through efforts.
C. Memories of details do not last long.
D. Imagination helps strengthen memory.
11. Which is a phenomenon of “gist memory” according to the text
A. Imagining something that didn’t exist.
B. Recalling every word of a conversation.
C. Just preserving the memory of pleasant things.
D. Remembering only key features of something.

A Swedish company training crows to pick up litter in exchange for food, claims that its program could save communities a fortune in cleaning costs.
Teaching humans not to throw cigarette butts on the street has so far proven impossible, but a Swedish company claims it can teach crows to pick up after us and save local communities millions of dollars in cleaning fees every year. It teaches wild crows to do our dirty work through a step-by-step learning process by rewarding the birds with food for every cigarette butt they collect.
“They are easier to teach and there is also a higher chance of them learning from each other. At the same time, there’s a lower risk of them mistakenly eating any rubbish,” company founder, Hanssen, said. “They’re wild birds taking part in on a voluntary basis.”
Crows are among the smartest birds on Earth, and such training programs have proven successful several times in recent years. In fact, the company is so confident it can pull it off that it has expressed interest in testing it in on a larger scale, in the town of S dert lje.
Hanssen believes that the initiative could save the municipality(自治市)at least 75% of the costs involved with picking up cigarette butts, depending on how hard the crows work. If it proves successful, the company hopes that it will provide a permanent cleaning solution that can be used in other parts of the country and eventually nationwide.
The approach to litter cleaning has gotten positive feedback online, but there are those who think the fact that we can train crows to pick up cigarette bults, but we can’t get humans not to throw them away is hard to accept. Plus, there are the health problems of constantly exposing the birds to the cigarette butts.
12. What is the advantage of the program
A. It can save food. B. It can save money.
C. It helps protect birds. D. It helps change people’s bad behavior.
13. Why are crows chosen for the program
A. They have a strong ability to learn. B. They have a strong sense of smell.
C. They are good at collecting rubbish. D. They are in large numbers in Sweden.
14. What can we know from the last two paragraphs
A. Only a few people support the program.
B. The program can do harm to the crows.
C. The company can get a fortune from the program.
D. The program has served as a cleaning solution nationwide.
15. What can be the best title for the text
A. Crows Learn to Exchange Food B. Crows Are Good at Collecting Litter
C. Crows Are Trained to Pick Up Litter D. Crows Begin to Feed on Cigarette Butts

A GIFT FOR GRANDPA
Summer vacation was coming. Jack and his brother Berlin were filled with excitement as they thought of visiting their grandparents again.
The big day came at last. After the happy family got ready, they set out for the grandparents’ eagerly. On the way, the brothers were excitedly talking about the fun they had with grandparents.
A little blue house with a tall white chimney finally appeared. Behind the property was the forest carrying their good memories with Grandpa. They arrived at the driveway, at the end of which Grandma was waiting for them joyfully.
Jack and Berlin each gave Grandma a big hug and then swept to the living room, shouting excitedly “Grandpa, we are back!”
Seeing his grandsons, Grandpa was wild with joy and tried to get up with all his strength from the chair but in vain. A helpless expression flashed on his face. Grandma explained that his health was declining rapidly and maybe couldn’t stand up on his own forever. But Grandpa declared stubbornly (倔强地), “I can!” Certainly, he was stuck in his boyish way. Mum and grandparents were happy to meet again after a long time. They sat together and chatted about what happened recently.
The brothers were soon bored with adult conversation, went out and wandered into the forest. Tall trees stretched up to the heavens with large branches crossing each other, while young ones rose straight like soldiers. Grandpa was once a great explorer full of wisdom. He could tell where the birds came from only by their calls and songs. The trees, birds, lizards, lots of bugs...How many merry moments they spent with Grandpa in the kingdom!
But now Grandpa couldn't get up. This made them worried. “We’d think out a way to cheer him up.” Jack said. “Grandpa is a bird lover, and we can catch him a bird.” Berlin suggested. “But he hates birds being caged!” Jack shook his head.
Then a bright idea came to Jack’s mind. “Why not make a cane (拐杖) out of a young tree!”

【9题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第三段““The Mandela effect seems to be closely related to a number of well-known memory phenomena,“ said Tim Hollins, a professor of experimental psychology at the University of Plymouth in the U.K. He named three similar types of memory-related phenomena: “false memory,” which is the creation of a memory that didn’t happen; “source-memory errors,” which is when someone forgets the true source of a memory; and “imagination inflation(膨胀),” which is the tendency to believe something is real when it is often or vividly imagined.(“曼德拉效应似乎与许多众所周知的记忆现象密切相关,”英国普利茅斯大学实验心理学教授蒂姆·霍林斯说。他列举了三种类似的与记忆有关的现象:“虚假记忆”,这是一种没有发生过的记忆的创造;“源记忆错误”,指的是某人忘记了记忆的真正来源;还有“想象膨胀”,指的是人们倾向于相信某件事是真实的,尽管它经常是人们生动地想象出来的。)”可知,第三段主要讲述的是导致曼德拉效应的几种记忆问题。故选C。

They arrived at the driveway at the end of which Grandma was waiting for them joyfully.

【答案】Berlin thought it was a good idea. When the two brothers reached an agreement, they quickly ran back to their grandfather’s house, got the tools they needed to make the cane, and ran back to the woods. Jack said, “What kind of tree should we pick for the walking stick ” Berlin thought for a moment and said, “I think we should choose a straight tree, so no knots will scratch grandpa’s hands.” Jack nodded his head in agreement. They found a straight tree and set to work. They cut the tree down, and with a knife they took the bark off. It was a wonderful tree, which was smooth and was just of the right size. They thought grandpa would love it.
Jack and Berlin handed the cane to Grandpa. When grandpa took the cane, his hands shook with joy, thinking, “This is made by my grandsons themselves. How precious it is!” Jack said, “Grandpa, we hope this cane will help you stand up and come with us to explore the woods.” Grandpa smiled and decided to give it a try so as not to make his grandchildren disappointed. He held the cane in his right hand and the arm of his chair in his left hand. He stood up with strength on his legs. Everyone was surprised and excited to see grandpa stand up. At that moment, Jack noticed a tear coming from the corner of his grandfather’s eye.
