应用文写作
Dear Freshmen,
I am Li Hua, president of the English Club in our school. I am more than glad to share with you
my understanding of efficient English learning methods and give some helpful advice.
First of all, it is of great importance to know that interest comes first, efficient learning involves a
persevering and enjoyable process. Admittedly, learning methods vary from person to
person.Whichever method you choose, find a workable method that suits you best. Personally, I
strongly recommend that we spare no effort to enrich our vocabulary and improve our reading
comprehension. To achieve this, we can join a study group, read English books or listen to English
programs. In addition, just as the saying goes, practice makes perfect. If you practice English as much
as possible and learn from mistakes, you are sure to be an efficient English learner.
Best luck with your English study.
Yours,
Li Hua.
读后续写
When he reached the door, he stood, fearing to enter. His mother said, “Tom, why do you not
come in You are not usually so shy. See this beautiful watch, which your uncle has brought for you.”
What a sense of shame Tom now felt! Little Caroline seized his arm, and pulled him into the room.
Inside the room sat the stranger, or rather, his uncle, with his forehead bound up, talking happily with
his father. But he hung down his head and covered his face with his hands. His uncle went up to him,
and kindly taking away his hands, said, “Tom, will you not bid me welcome ”
But stepping back surprisedly, their uncle cried, “Oh! lt’s you!” But when his uncle saw the
puzzled father, he immediately explained that he just met Tom in the street. In a flash, Tom learned that
his uncle was ready to forgive him and forget the injury. But facing such a kind uncle, he couldn’t
conceal his guilt. Having confessed what he had done to his uncle, Tom felt relieved. But his father
would never permit Tom to have the gold watch, nor the beautiful books, which his uncle had brought
for him. His sister Caroline was loaded with presents. Tom was forced to content himself with seeing
her happy. He never forgot this lesson so long as he lived. It cured him entirely of his low and rude
manners.

M: I feel terrible. I didn’t get to bed until 4:00 a.m.
W: You shouldn’t go to bed so late.

W: 13Hello, everyone. Welcome to the sixth of our programs. This week’s program is called Moving
out and we have Brian today. So, Brian, how long has it been since you moved out
M: 14 I moved out four months ago, but it wasn’t what you might call a clean break. I didn’t move out
all at once. I did it gradually and spent most of the week with my parents at first. I started by spending
the weekends at my new flat so that I could get used to living alone slowly. My parents were really
understanding when I told them where I wanted to move. You see, 15 I wanted to go somewhere quiet
— a place where I could paint.
W: Finally, I’d like to ask you some advice you would give to a teenager who was thinking of leaving
home.
M: 16 I believe that the point is to have a good reason for leaving home and don’t just move because
you just want to move. I mean you shouldn’t do it just because it sounds like fun.
(Text 10)
M: I’ve always enjoyed listening to music. It helps me calm down after a busy day. 17 Instead of jazz, I
like many different types of music, such as rock, R&B — depending on how I feel. Last year I went to
a pop festival. It lasted for three days, so we decided to camp on the field provided by the concert
organizers.
The weather was awful and it rained all weekend. We were all wet! Anyway, 18 the concert continued
paying no attention to the weather. The organizers advised us to keep to the special walkways that they
had set up and gave us some plastic raincoats to put over our tents.
18Although the weather was bad; the music was great. I particularly enjoyed some of the supporting
bands — I always find they perform better than the main stars. 19 It’s probably because this is their
great chance to get their music heard. It is a great pleasure to go to the pop festival, but 20 I wish I had
booked into a hotel rather than decide to sleep in a tent!
