What’s on your travel list for 2021 I’ve consulted several travel experts to find out the top places in the USA worth visiting in 2021.
Where: New Orleans, Louisiana
Why: New Orleans is known for its music and food—not to mention the festivals.
It has about 130 festivals each year, so there’s really no bad time to visit. Bourbon Street is the obvious choice for food, drink and jazz and it’s definitely a must-visit location, especially for the first timers to the city.
Where: Vail, Colorado
Why: Vail is the perfect destination for travelers looking to find almost everything in one central spot. Stay at the amazing Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail a few steps away from Vail Village, a popular town with cobblestone(鹅卵石) steets for wandering leisurely. The country’s largest free transportation system runs frequently, making it easy to access almost anywhere from Vail Village to Lionshead Village.
Where: Hudson Valley, New York
Why: The Hudson Valley is where New Yorkers go to escape the city when they need a healthy dose of nature and relaxation. Just an hour and half north of New York City, the Hudson Valley is made up of small, impossibly charming towns, where the air is fresher and things do move slower in the mountains.
24.You can enjoy different things in New Orleans EXCEPT________.
A.sports B.music C.festivals D.food
25.Which place would you prefer if you like wandering leisurely
A.Bourbon Street. B.New Orleans.

They are the planet’s closest living evolutionary link to Tyrannosaurus rex (霸王龙) and contribute hugely to our notional diet, but Dow the humble chicken is coming into its own in Britain as the productive pet of choice.
What began several years ago as a trend among town residents with large gardens has now exploded into an entire industry, say experts. Pet shops and garden centres stock chicken feed, while poultry (家禽) producers are scrambling to keep up with demand for birds. Dozens of manufactures are producing hen house in every shape and size-and for every budget
This weekend the South of England show at Ardingly, West Sussex, the biggest annual agricultural event in the south-east, took poultry as its theme in response to what organizers called “an incredible increase in population of keeping poultry”.
And it’s not only hens, but ducks, too. “A lot of it is the horsemeat scandal; people just want to be more connected to their food,” said the show’s Paula Seager.
Next week sees the publication of the latest book in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage series. Titled Chicken & Eggs, it is a step-by-step guide for beginners written by Mark Dincono.
Poultry expert Andy Marshall writes the Poultryman’s Diary in Practical Poultry, the bestselling of several British magazines devoted to the subject. “The chicken house has become a bit of a must-have add-on for every garden now,” he said. “More and more people are trying to keep hens and more and more people would like to do it. We’re seeing lots of schools starting to get involved and there is a huge increase of interest in pure breeds. All this enthusiasm is wonderful, but we do have a lot of people buying birds who don’t have a clue, and I am concerned for the welfare of all the birds being sold out there. Today’s society loves a quick fix, and while chickens are very easy to care for and to enjoy getting eggs from, they do need to be fed and looked after, so do a bit of basic research before you rush off and buy your hen house and your four chickens.”
With the agriculture sector hit by dreadful weather and high feed costs, this feathered trend of DIY poultry-keeping is helping British chicken breeds to thrive.
“In terms of the industry, it’s massive: You can buy fertilized eggs to hatch out chickens on eBay, and hen houses at your local garden centre,” said Marshall. “Poultry has become very big business.”
31.Why did the South of England Show take poultry as the theme
A.Because they are the planet’s closest living evolutionary link to Tyrannosaurus rex.
B.Because their flesh is British people’s major source of food.
C.Because they are the objects of experts’ scientific researches.
D.Because keeping poultry has become an increasingly popular trend.
32.Where can beginners of poultry get access to a step-by-step guide
A.In the book titled Chicken & Eggs.
B.At the South of England show at Ardingly, West Sussex.
C.From agricultural experts.
D.In a British magazine titled the Poultryman’ Diary in Practical Poultry.
33.What are poultry experts such as Andy Marshall worried about
A.The horse meat scandal.
B.People’s enthusiasm for keeping poultry will fade.
C.The poultry won’t be taken good care of.
D.The welfare of the people who have bought birds.
34.What does the underlined phrase “fertilized eggs” probably mean
A.Eggs produced by the massive industry. B.Eggs nurtured with fertilizers.
C.Eggs in which young animals develop. D.Eggs of high quality.
How to Design a Small Garden
Even if you don’t have a large area in your yard, you can sill make a beautiful garden that maximizes the space you have by following tips.
35 . Look for a place in your yard where you can see your garden from a window or a spot in your yard so that you’re able to enjoy it. Make sure you can walk into your garden with ease to make it easier to take care of your plants. 36 .
Plan the layout for your garden by drawing the outline on the paper. Start by sketching longer rectangles (矩形) for your garden beds so they’re to scale for the actual size you want them. 37 . Be sure to leave an 18-inch space between garden beds so you can easily walk between them and care for your plants.
Arrange your design so there are focal point. Aim to have 1-2 aspects of your garden design unique so they stand out from the rest of your plants. 38 . Take into consideration where you want people to focus or have their attention drawn to when they look at your garden, and plan your design around those spots. Focal points help your garden feel more inviting and make them more visually pleasing.
Put similar plants across from one another to create rhythm and symmetry (对称). Rather than put different plants in each of your garden beds, choose to use the same plant or ones that have similar textures or colors so they’re across from one another. 39 .

Intentions matter

We all at times express ourselves poorly, make errors of judgment or have a moment of 47 where we say the wrong thing. All of us have offended someone at some point in our lives.
The internet is full of people seeking to make things worse. 48 there are also many decent people who 49 get things wrong or simply do not know better.
I get that there is much to be angry about. The world is full of injustice. The actions and words of other people can cause harm; 50 , the actions and words of other people matter.
But intention has to matter too, for us to make sense of the world, and for us to effect change. 51 intentions can help us to feel better about our fellow humans. When we appreciate intent, it can help to lessen the impact of their message.
On a more practical level, understanding intention can help us respond to people with 52 instead of anger. People who wish to do the right thing are often willing to listen. When we scream at people in anger, we 53 communication and make them less open to change. Remember, humans are 54 as divided as social media suggests.

There are now well over 1,000 colleges and universities that don’t require SAT or ACT scores in deciding whom to admit, the number that is growing every year. 55 new study finds that scores on these tests are of little value in predicting students’ performance in college, and 56 (raise) the question: Should those tests be required at all
When a college considers test-optional admissions policies, the first 57 (react) people feel is that the college will admit less 58 (qualify) students. Actually, more students from diverse backgrounds 59 (admit) to colleges abolishing test scores and students graduate at a higher rate. 60 , some researchers question the impact the policies have had 61 schools. They argue that 62 the study is showing can’t prove test scores can be an obstacle for students. But two years’ worth of data clearly indicate that students who go into university with high test scores perform no better than 63 (they) fellow students. During the 2020-2021 school year, I was one of two fully remote fourth-grade teachers in my school. We each taught the required disciplines: English language arts, math, social studies, and science.
We had been reading from our outdated science textbook about how crabs (螃蟹) on Christmas Island scuttle (碎步疾跑) across roads and yards to get to the ocean to mate and lay eggs. The skill being taught was supposed to be to compare and contrast, a requirement in a lesson that all teachers are familiar with. My students were fascinated by something that said crabs have a plant-based diet, eating such items as leaves, fruits, and flowers. One of the kids, an experienced social media user, said something wild: Crabs eat their babies.
They all became active. What No way! Suddenly, it seemed everyone was interested in the lesson. I hadn’t planned to teach like that, but it became clear that I needed to change. It was almost time for a break, so I asked my students to see if they could figure out what was true. What do crabs eat
When we returned, we started a list of what we’d found. The first few students said it was true: Crabs do eat their babies. But others found resources saying that wasn’t the case. One especially thoughtful student found a video with over 600,000 views that seemed to approve of the opinion that crabs eat their babies. During the break, however, I also had done some online research and found a reputable site which said that there was some truth to the video, but it had more of misinformation. Rather than teach another lesson on comparing and contrasting, I engaged my students in a discussion about what to trust.

66.范文
As the discussion went, there came an unexpected argument about the truth and misinformation. Speaking of truth and misinformation, students had different opinions. Some students held the firm belief that what matters is truth. Truth can help make people convincing in finding out the reason. However, others insisted that it is unavoidable that there may be some misinformation whenever we study or do things, which is common in our daily life. Showing their excellent debate skills and extraordinary reasoning, neither side could persuade the other. In such circumstance, they turned to me for help.
I concluded that even a little misinformation would never be allowed compared to truth. Misinformation about crabs eating their babies might not be catastrophic, but what will happen when our students mistake important information regarding their health or major world events Students should go to great lengths to seek truth in what they have learned, which can lead them forward in the right way. Since then, I have adjusted my teaching methods and encouraged students to find truth and learn from truth. By no means should they give up the chance.

②寻找:seek/look for
