范文1:
Dear friend,
I understand how you feel. It's natural to compare yourself to others, but remember, everyone has their own unique style and pace of improvement.
Instead of feeling discouraged, try to see your friend's skills as inspiration. Focus on your own progress and set small, achievable goals. Practice regularly and don't be afraid to ask your friend for tips. Most importantly, enjoy the process of drawing—it's about expressing yourself, not just the end result.
Keep going, and you'll see improvement over time!
Yours,
Li Hua
范文2:
Dear friend,
What puzzles you is actually a puzzle for many teenagers in China. The situation here is even worse because the person making you discouraged is your friend.
So my advice is, initially, you are required to stop the comparisons, for different students have individual shining points, instead attempting to focus on your work, progress and pleasure brought by drawing. Moreover, if you continue to draw with your friend, there exists a good chance for you to improve your painting skills by consulting him, which can help you find the way to break through.
Hope you'll soon find everything works out.
Yours,
Li Hua
范文3:
Dear friend,
I can really empathize with the frustration you’re experiencing. It’s completely normal to feel encouraged when you compare your drawing skills to someone who seems more proficient. However, it’s crucial to shift your perspective.
First of all, rather than constantly measuring yourself against your friend, focus on your personal development. Secondly, consider your friend as a valuable resource. Instead of feeling jealous, approach them and ask for advice. Finally, always keep in mind the reason why you started drawing in the first place-- the pure joy and fulfillment it brings. Stay true to your passion, and with consistent practice, you’ll surely reach new heights.
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文1:
Paragraph 1: I remembered my little first-aid kit. Grabbing my package in no time, I stormed into the hall where I saw Emily sitting on the floor, her face contorted in pain, her arm reddened and swollen. Kneeling beside her and gently unwrapping the first-aid kit, I quickly yet carefully cleaned the burned area with the antiseptic cream, applied a gauze pad to the burn, and secured it with a bandage. Emily's eyes were filled with tears, but she still managed a grateful nod. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice hoarse.“It's okay,” I reassured her. Soon, many of the other girls heard of my little kit and paid me a visit for various needs. The little gift I had questioned now led me toward new friendships. As it broke diseases, it also broke the ice, allowing me to meet and befriend many in the dorm.
Paragraph 2: Years later, I received a party invitation from a young friend who was graduating from high school. Eager as I was to attend her party, I was at a loss what gift to prepare. Then like a bolt out of the blue, memories of my own party rushed back to me, and I smiled at the opportunity presenting itself. As I drove to the pharmacy, I knew exactly what gift I would give her: a first-aid kit. When I arrived at her party with the very gift for her, her eyes widened in surprise at it, exactly as what I did years ago. I smiled and explained the depth and meaning behind my choice. It was not just a first-aid kit but a chance to be a friend. Knowing the whole story, she took it and winked at me, “Yes, it is bandage for bond".
参考范文2:
Paragraph 1: I remembered my little first-aid kit. Hastily digging through my suitcase, I spotted the first-aid kit in a corner, snatched it up, and sprinted towards the hall where a crowd anxiously clustered around Emily. What came into my view was her panicked gaze and blistered arm.Calmly, I opened the first-aid kit, applying ointment to the burn, and securing a bandage to ease her discomfort. The overwhelming relief flooding Emily's face instantly ignited a heartfelt admiration from the bystanders.Small act as it was, it made a significant difference, and it was then that I truly appreciated the genuine value of this thoughtful gift, as my mother had anticipated at my graduation party.
Paragraph 2: Years later, I received a party invitation from a young friend who was graduating from high school. I was scratching my head over a graduation gift when the first-aid kit popped into my mind. It was a reminder to brace myself for the unexpected, something serving me well throughout my college. That's why I opted to extend the wisdom by gifting one to my friend. I selected some essentials tailored for a high school graduate to tackle emergency situations during their university life, accompanied with a thoughtful note sharing the story of Emily and the first-aid kit.Not only did I wish the first aid kit might come in handy in any emergency, but also I wanted to imprint the illumination on her "Expect the unexpected, and prepare for the worst."惠州中学2023级高二年级下学期期中考试 英语科试卷

I first realized that plastic was a serious matter for our planet during my travel in Western Australia. One day about 12 years ago, I stopped at a supermarket along the Coral Bay coast to buy some groceries. But the lady at the counter told me that the supermarket didn’t sell any shopping bags to prevent plastic in the ocean and help preserve the endangered turtles(海龟) living in that area. After a first reaction of surprise, I gathered all purchases in my arms and left, reflecting on what I had been told.
The experience in that trip made me more conscious about my impact and pushed me to adopt various habits to travel and live more sustainably. For example, I always carried a cotton bag when I went shopping.
My travel to Indonesia was another life-changing experience that strengthened my determination to turn to a zero-waste lifestyle. In Indonesia, finding safe drinkable water was always a challenge, so I traveled with my water bottle, managing to avoid almost entirely the use of plastic during my trip.
However, I was seriously struck by my stay on the Libaran Island, where a sustainable and turtle conservation project was launched 10 years ago. Despite the big efforts by the project staff and the community in cleaning up the beaches and creatively reusing plastic, the shore was washed daily with tons of plastic coming from the tides. Walking on a carpet of plastic that almost prevented me from seeing the beach underneath was quite shocking.
Facing this global issue in person, I felt a sense of sadness and anger that soon turned into determination: to do as much as possible to reduce plastic in my life. Sometimes we might feel helpless in front of big problems, but we should be aware that small changes could actually make a difference step by step!

Human experts spend years roasting and tasting coffee from many places to learn about the beans. They might then combine a coffee bean from Africa with another one from South America to come up with a new blend. But, a coffee roasting company in Helsinki, Finland is hoping that artificial intelligence, or AI, can help ease the workload.
Kaffa Roastery recently brought out its “AI-conic” blend at the Helsinki Coffee Festival. The blend is a mixture of four kinds of beans, including Fazenda Pinhal from Brazil. It is the result of a joint project by Kaffa and Elev, a local AI business.
Svante Hampf is the founder of Kaffa Roastery. He and his partners wanted to do an experiment to see what blend the computer would produce. “We basically gave descriptions of all our coffee types and their flavours to AI and instructed it to create a new exciting blend,” Hampf said. The “AI-conic” blend combined beans from Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala. It is described as “a well-balanced blend of sweetness and ripe fruit”.
Hampf said he thought the combination was “somewhat weird”. He was surprised that the AI programme chose to make the blend out of four different kinds of beans. Most humans choose only two or three beans. However, after the first blind test of the new blend, Kaffa’s coffee experts agreed that the AI-assisted blend was perfect. There was no need to change.
Elev’s Antti Merilehto said “AI-conic” is an example of “how AI can introduce new viewpoint to experienced professionals”. The International Coffee Organization says that the 5.6 million people in Finland drink the most coffee per person in the world. And the roasters at Kaffa said they hope the AI project will help to bring more things to the strong coffee culture in the country.
Hampf called it a “first step”, adding, “I think AI has plenty to offer us in the long run. We are particularly impressed of the coffee taste descriptions it created.”
28. What is the function of Paragraph 1
A. To point out a problem. B. To present a finding.
C. To introduce the topic. D. To call for action.
29. What can we learn about the “AI-conic” blend
A. It is now in mass production.
B. It comes in a variety of fruit flavours.
C. It is sweeter than other coffee.
D. It integrates beans from four countries.
30. What does the underlined word “weird” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Strange. B. Great. C. Ordinary. D. Strong.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. AI Robots Help Make Perfect Coffee
B. A New Coffee Blend Wins People’s Love
C. AI Tries Hand at Blending Coffee in Finland

Climate models can give us a preview of how humanity’s actions — or inaction — will change our planet over the coming decades and centuries. But because the planet is such a complex system, they aren’t perfect; climate models have uncertainties that grow larger as they go farther into the future. Scientists and engineers from across the country are teaming up to build a new type of climate model that is designed to provide more precise and actionable predictions.
Current climate modeling relies on dividing up the globe into a grid (格子) and then computing what is going on in each sector of the grid, as well as show the sectors interact with each other. Limitations in available computer processing power mean that those sectors generally cannot be any smaller than tens of kilometers per side. But for climate modeling, the devil is in the details — details that get missed in a too-large grid. “For cities planning their storm water management facilities to resist the next 100 years’ worth of floods, this is a serious issue. Concrete answers about the likely range of climate outcomes are key for planning.” says Tapio Schneider, senior research scientist at CliMA.
Weighing recent advances in the computational and data sciences, the team plans to step in and each of the partners brings a different strength and research expertise to the project. “Our goal is a new model that projects future changes in critical variables such as cloud cover, sea ice extent, and rainfall more accurately—with uncertainties at least half the size of those in existing models.” said Dr. Andrew, the team leader.
One doubter about the application of climate models is Raffaele Ferrari, a Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Oceanography at MIT. “Using a model, we become puppeteers, masters of a giant system that is, in truth, beyond human control. We can cool or heat the planet at will, add salt or ice or rain or dust in any amount we want,” Dr. Ferrari says. “We have no backup planet. How climate models are used remains to be seen.”
32. Why are climate models built
A. To collect scientific data.
B. To monitor human actions.
C. To deliver useful forecasts.
D. To maintain social systems.
33. What is the problem of current climate modeling
A. Shortage of facilities.
B. Reliance on computers.
C. Limitation in simplifying details.
D. Inability to get smaller grids.
34. What does the team aim to do
A. Investigate serious issues.
B. Guarantee the safety of the city.
C. Improve the accuracy of the models.
D. Change the future climate.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Climate models enjoys great popularity.
B. Scientists have created a new climate model.
C. Doubts about climate models are disappearing.
D. Caution is advised in the use of climate models.

Glitter (闪光纸屑) is widely used to decorate clothing, arts, and so on. During festivals and celebrations, it brings joy and excitement, creating a dazzling atmosphere that unites people in the celebration. 36 It is necessary to know why.
37 The glitter you used for your decorations a decade ago probably still exists now. And it makes products that you may normally wish to recycle, such as wrapping paper, no longer recyclable. This is why the UK government has banned to put shiny or glittery Christmas cards or wrapping paper in recycling bags.
Besides, due to its size, lots of plastic glitter will unavoidably make its way into water, rivers, and eventually the oceans. 38 This has been shown to significantly impact the reproduction rates of oyster (牡蛎) and make other animals less active, more likely to be eaten and less likely to thrive.
Glitter also contributes to the increasing micro plastics inside human bodies. 39 Aside from directly finding its way into our food from glittery cards and decorations, it's consumed by fish, shellfish, seabirds and other marine life, thus passing through the food chain and eventually reaching us and harming our health.
While restricting glitter is only an extremely small step in addressing the broader micro plastic problem, the European Union has taken the lead in this. Leading UK retailer (零售商) such as Morrisons should be praised for taking a stand and going completely glitter free. 40 But if we are to protect our planet, no step is too small.
A. This means it gets everywhere.
B. Life in these water bodies often mistakes it for food.
C. But it is now officially banned in the European Union.
D. The materials used to make glitter are known to harm human health.
E. Growing research suggests glitter ends up back on our dinner tables.
F. Banning glitter obviously won't completely save the climate or animals.
G. The problem with glitters is that it is a micro plastic that doesn't break down naturally.

In July, 2024, students from Southwest University traveled to Zhi sheng Town, Chongqing, using AI technology 56 (restore) old photos for local villagers.
Villagers brought in damaged photos of family members, special events, and other precious moments. These photographs, damaged by time, 57 (process) by the Al model carefully. “Some villagers’ eyes were filled with tears when seeing the repaired photos. That's 58 we believe technology is not just a tool. It connects us to our past and enriches our present,” said Sheng Yang, a student 59 (major)in Intelligent Science and Technology.
The team used the Stable Diffusion open-source engine, customizing it to improve photo color sharpness, and resolution. When Al alone was insufficient, further 60 (adjust) was made using traditional tools like Photoshop. While the Al model 61 (prove) effective in reconstructing faces so far, it still faces many challenges. “The problems reflect 62 limitations in algorithms(算法) and we need more advanced techniques ,” Sheng noted.
The project not only showed the positive role of technology in enhancing community bonds but helped keep those bonds 63 (root) in tradition. On the one hand, the younger generation gave back to older villagers by preserving their cherished memories. On the other hand, it showed the profound impact that modern technology have 64 safeguarding personal histories and culture, especially in a 65 (rapid) changing world where traditions can easily fade.

“Anybody have a bandage (绷带) ” a voice echoed down the dorm(宿舍) hallway. That was a common scene frequently happening in our first week at college when we were all experiencing “forgot-this-or-that”. I had forgot to bring snacks for late-night hunger. Some poor girl in the dorm had apparently forgotten bandages. We all felt a little displaced.
Several months before, I sat at my high school graduation party admiring my gifts and battling waves of post-high school emotions. The usual and beloved inspirational books were lying in disorder around my feet, silently announcing the wealth of wisdom they wished to share. A small pile of personal checks lay nearby, laundry items, desk supplies, sewing things - all well-intentioned and well-received. They would demonstrate their givers’ thoughtfulness over and over during my college career.
But one gift struck me as strange. I frowned when I opened it. A first aid kit Inside it were a small packet of pills, pain-killers, creams, ointments(药膏), an insect sprayer(喷雾), a tape, pads of gauze(纱布) and bandages. Who would give that as a gift “You'll need that once you’re at school,” Mom pointed out. “You won’t have to chase down the campus nurse for every cough.” I shrugged(耸肩) at this thought.
Not long after, in August, I packed my life into a borrowed truck and slipped the first-aid kit in with my luggage. I barely thought about it once I reached campus, busy unpacking, book-buying, scheduling and meeting new friends.
One day, I was peacefully sitting in my room, absorbed in preparing my studies. The quiet atmosphere was suddenly broken by a sharp scream, “Anybody have a bandage Emily got her arm burnt!” The voice echoed through the dormitory hall(走廊), instantly throwing residents into a state of confusion and alarm.
