In many countries, you can only get a proper, full-time job if you are 16 or 18 years old. But there are things that teenagers in some places can do to earn some pocket money. Here are a few ideas.
Parents with a small child want to go out for the evening for dinner, or to the cinema, but they don’t want to leave their child alone. So, they ask a teenager to look after him or her. If the child’s asleep, you can do homework! Teenagers can also go to send newspapers usually you ride a bike around a neighborhood and leave the newspaper at each house. You have to have your own bike and you have to get up early too!
Some adults have a dog but they don’t have time to take it for a walk. Dogs need exercise! So, some teenagers work as dog-walkers. You earn money and you’re outside in the fresh air, getting some exercise too! Lots of older people are happy for teenagers to help them carry their shopping or do small things for them, like washing or keeping them company. You earn money, and people in the neighborhood get your help.
It’s crazy for adults to drive to an expensive car wash when they can get a teenager to do the job for less money. Wash the car well and carefully and people will want you to do it again. Then you’ve got customers!

Being a new technology, VR technology is clearly just beginning to take off. There are companies producing their own VR headsets (头戴式设备), but they are still not as popular as other products that are meant to have fun. Most of the VR products available on the market today are aimed at gamers and mostly special for high-end buyers because of its expensive price.
However, there are also some challenges that should be dealt with in order to lead the success of VR. Among others, one of the most necessary would be the need for powerful devices (设备) that would complement (匹配) the headsets. For Oculus Rift, for example, a powerful video card is needed for a computer, something you might not have at home, making the VR technology not proper.
In addition, there are also challenges about the beauty. Today’s VR headsets look almost the same—they are huge and heavy and they look silly. Producers must find a way in order to make the headsets more beautiful.
Producers will also be challenged to make VR headsets more affordable so that more people will be able to buy them. Most are just too expensive for buyers.
Lastly, and maybe the most importantly, the challenge is to find more applications. It is currently being centered on game paste applications. Producers are challenged to come up with creative ways in order to increase the usefulness of such a promising device.
It is unbelievable that VR is big in today’s time, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. There are also some problems that haven’t been solved and many chances. It would be safe to say that it is new, but hopefully it is getting to the top.
23. What is needed for your computer when you use Oculus Rift
A. A useful videotape. B. A powerful video card. C. A powerful video camera. D. A useful video phone.
24. What is the biggest challenge of VR
A. To lower its price. B. To improve its headset. C. To find its application. D. To beautify its look.
25. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of VR
A. Worried. B. Caring. C. Confident. D. Indifferent.
26. Where can we see the passage
A. In an ad. B. In a science magazine. C. In a storybook. D. In a guidebook.
D
When travelling outside, do you buy water in plastic bottles or take your chances with tap water Imagine you are touring on a Thai island. It’s hot so you buy a bottle of water from a local shop. It’s the safe thing to do, right
The bottle is sealed, and the words on it says “pure water”. But maybe what’s inside is not as natural as it says. Would you still be drinking it if you knew that more than 90 percent of all bottled water sold around the world carry micro-plastics (微塑料)
That’s the finding of a recent found study, which studied 259 bottles from 11 brands sold in nine countries. These micro-plastics included a substance (物质) commonly known as PET and widely used in the production of clothing and food and drink bottles. The study was taken by Orb Media, a journalism organization at the State University of New York.
About a million bottles are bought every minute, not only by thirsty tourists but also by more than 2.1 billion people who live with unsafe drinking water.
With this number, several bottled-water companies including Nestle and Coca-Cola developed their own studies using the same way. These studies showed that their water did carry micro-plastics, but far less than the Orb study suggested.
Anyway, the World Health Organization has started a survey into the possible health danger of drinking water from plastic bottles.
27. Why did the writer ask questions in Para. 1
A. To list some different kinds of water.
B. To make some introductions of water
C. To lead into the topic of bottled water.
D. To advise readers to make good preparations while touring.
28. What did the recent study find
A. Bottled water was safer than tap water.
B. Bottled water was not as natural as we think.
C. All bottled water carries the harmful substance.
D. Bottled water has some influences on the environment.
29. What can we infer from the passage
A. Micro-plastics in the bottled water can cause some serious illnesses.
B. Many people think bottled water is safe enough to drink.
C. Half the bottled water from different brands carries micro-plastics.
D. It is always a good choice for people to buy bottled water.
30. What may the writer talk about next after the passage
A. More study numbers of different companies.
B. New technology to test the micro-plastics.
C. Some ways to cut down the number of micro-plastics.
D. Some effects that may be bad for the body.

Hi Mike,
I am so glad to hear that you will come to visit Hangzhou. Chinese people are so friendly that you don’t need to worry about the problems. Meanwhile, I will offer you some advice to help you.
When meeting for the first time, you are supposed to shake hands with others or you can just smile at others. Noodles and rice are traditional food in China. You can also enjoy some local food like Dongpo Meat in Hangzhou. As for the table manners, it is impolite to stick your chopsticks into your food. Besides, you shouldn’t point at anyone with your chopsticks, either. The weather here is a little hot in summer, so you’d better bring shorts and T-shirts with you.
I hope you can have a good time in Hangzhou.
Yours,
Li Hua
