Fly like superman!
Have you ever imagined how it feels when fresh air is in your face Or to see the beauty of nature from the top You can do it in a hot air balloon ride.
Hot air ballooning is the activity of flying in a basket hanging over a hot air balloon. Attractive parts of ballooning include the unusual quiet, the lack of a feeling of movement, and the bird’s-eye view. Since the balloon moves with the direction of the winds, the passengers feel absolutely no wind, except for brief periods during the flight when the balloon climbs or falls into air currents of different directions or speeds. Hot air ballooning has been recognized by the World Aeronautical Federation(WAF)as the safest air sport, and accidents seldom happen. However, you must follow some rules such as:
* You have to respect the limit of passengers allowed in the ride. A catlán has drawn new attention to the danger of ballooning. Four years ago, 1 1 people were injured and 2 were killed when their hot air balloon basket struck in line and caught fire.
*The pilot must check the weather and select a suitable take-off point. The current and forecast weather must have good visibility for the pilot to see, and slow winds to allow take-off and landing.
* Children aged under twelve have to be with their parents all the tour.
* Pilots must not carry passengers who have participated in scuba dive (蛙潜) the day before.
There are many regular (定期) gatherings of balloons and balloonists in Hidalgo around the year, which provide both a place for balloonists to interact as well as a place for visitors to entertain. You must try this activity at least once in a lifetime.
21. What is an attraction of hot air ballooning
A. Hearing the sound of the wind. B. Enjoying a breathtaking view.
C. Experiencing different weather. D. Having a feeling of movement.
22. What can we learn from the rules of hot air ballooning
A. 13 passengers are allowed on board at most. B. It allows take-off or landing in strong winds.
C. A person aged 12 and older can ride alone. D. Any scuba divers are allowed as passengers.
23. What kind of text is it
A. A news report.B. A scientific research.C. A travel guide.D. A technical document.
B
Recently an old friend reached out to me to ask about the success I’ve had in my life (or at least what looks like success on social media XD) and how I achieved it. He has similar goals as me: get in shape, get into music more seriously, and be fluent in Japanese.
Though I haven’t entirely reached my long-term goals yet in any of these 3 ways, he’s seen that I’ve made some progress on my journey to achieving these goals and wanted my advice.
We had a nice hour and a half chat on the phone about this and it seemed like he was pretty motivated by the end of the chat. A week went by and he told me that he signed up for a personal fitness trainer, was studying music theory, and sent me clips of him studying Japanese. He’s posting regularly on social media about all the progress he’s making. He’s motivated and doing great!
At last I’ll have to remind him that progress isn’t linear (线性的) and that he’ll finally meet with some challenges in the road, but I’m letting him enjoy the present progress in the meantime and will help him tackle them when that time comes.
I’m grateful for him giving me the opportunity to serve him and give him advice, and I’m grateful to see that he’s investing the time and money to promote his life. He even posted recently about how grateful he is with all the recent changes in his life.
Even if you’re still not where you want to be, there are a lot of people out there who want what you have and who are impressed with how far you’ve come. It’s extremely joyful to be aware how far you’ve come, be proud of yourself, and recognize how much you can help others achieve the same.
24. Why did the author’s friend contact him
A. To thank him for the advice on success. B. To consult him about some proposals.
C. To require him to share his success on XD. D. To ask for advice on how to set goals to achieve.
25. What does the underlined word “tackle” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. get over B. apply for C. focus on D. relate to
26. Which of the following can best describe the author’s friend
A. Anxious and outgoing. B. Responsible and wise.
C. Purposeful and active. D. Motivated and humorous.
27. What does the author mainly express in the last paragraph
A. You should make use of your advantages.
B. You should take pride in what others achieve.
C. You’ve come a lot further than you realize.
D. You should turn to others when you feel confused.
C
Meat, milk, cheese — just some of the things provided by goats. But now we can also add fire safety to this list. As wildfires damage increasingly large areas of the planet each year, goatherds (牧羊人) may offer a way of reducing the risk.
Wildfires are made possible by hot, dry weather conditions as well as a supply of dead plants that serve as fuel. We may have limited control over the former factor, but we can control the latter. Reducing the fuel load lowers the possibility of wildfires occurring, as well as the amount of damage caused. This is where we can turn to goats to search for a solution, which are being used for landscape management in a number of places around the world, including Greece, Spain, Portugal, Chile and a number of parts of the United States.
Goats have an extremely powerful digestive (消化的) system. Many kinds of plants that are dangerous to other animals can be easily eaten by goats. It’s not just fully-grown plants that goats are able to deal with: any seeds that pass through a goat can’t survive and will not grow. Human clearance teams have to worry about getting to the hard-to-reach places where plants grow but goats don’t. They are skilled mountain climbers and when standing on their hind legs, they can reach up to two metres to the plants that humans would struggle to reach. Because of this, using goats can reduce both the possibility of workplace accidents and the amount of money spent on fire protection measures. Goatherds have been found to clear some parts of land for a third of the price of human control teams.
Cost and safety aren’t the only benefits. Goats are quieter than grass-cutting machines and people usually prefer to see goats eating grass rather than litres of herbicide (除草剂). Children are often attracted to see the goats at work and this provides an opportunity to educate people about preventing wildfires.
28. Why can goats help to prevent wildfires
A. They are not afraid of bad weather. B. They are easily controlled by goatherds.
C. They have the strongest digestive system. D. They can remove dead plants causing fire.
29. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3
A. The fire protection measures that people often take.
B. The reasons why goats are used to prevent wildfires.
C. The difficulty human clearance teams have preventing fire.
D. The effects goats have on the natural balance of mountains.
30. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Herbicide will not be used to remove grass soon.
B. Children like goats because of their quiet character.
C. It’s a green way to prevent wildfires by using goats.
D. Herbicide works better than grass-cutting machines.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Firefighting Goats. B. Clever Goatherds.
C. Damage Caused by Wildfires. D. Ways to Prevent Disasters.
D
Want to learn a new language or get A's in college exams Previous studies have shown that exercise can help stimulate the areas of the brain that convert (转换) new information into long-term memory. A new study has taken this information one step further and found the best time when exercise can help maximize learning.
Building upon past research that found exercise releases biochemicals that improve mental function, scientists at Radboud University and the University of Edinburgh conducted a study to determine when exercise was most beneficial to learning.
Participants – 72 healthy male and female adults – were first asked to perform a computer test that challenged their visual and spatial learning. After the test, all of the subjects watched nature documentaries, but two-thirds of them also exercised. Half of the exercisers did circuit training on an exercise bike for 35 minutes immediately after the test. The other half did the same exercise but not until four hours after they had been tested.
Two days later, all of the participants returned to the lab for a recall test, and they were connected to MRI (磁共振成像) machines to assess their brain activity. The participants who exercised four hours after taking the computer test were able to recall what they had learned most accurately. Their brainwaves also showed more consistent levels of activity, indicating that their brains were less taxed to remember what they had learned.
According to this research, the best time to exercise to improve learning is four hours after studying. But why That's one question the researchers have yet to answer. Another question left unanswered is the level of exercise that might best improve learning. I've run enough marathons to prove the fact that my brain is anything but sharp during or after a tough workout. But the researchers noted that light workouts might not give the brain enough of a biochemical boost to improve learning.
32. What did the new study aim to explore
A. When exercise is best for learning. B. What biochemicals are good for health.
C. How brainwaves should be measured. D. Which area of the brain is the most active.
33. What were all the participants asked to do during the experiment
A. Train on bicycles. B. Do mathematics exercises.
C. Play computer games. D. Watch films about nature.
34. Why did the participants return to the lab two days later
A. To do a medical examination. B. To have their memory tested.
C. To get their workouts recorded. D. To finish their previous tasks.
35. What might the author's marathon running prove
A. The findings of the study are reliable. B. Long-distance runners are often smart.
C. Studies on the marathon are not enough. D. Hard exercise may not sharpen the brain.

Jack was a bright and curious child, always eager to learn new things and explore the world about science. However, he often found himself in disagreement with his mother. His mother was always busy with her work and she didn’t have enough time to learn about his interests and passions.
One day, Jack came home from school feeling particularly excited. He just found a sci-fi book about an adventure on the moon. Upon arriving home, he couldn’t tear himself away from the book. He read and read until it was dark. Having finished reading it, he couldn’t wait to share it with his mother, only to be told that he should focus on more practical subjects like math and physics, which would help him get into a good college and have a successful career.
Jack couldn’t understand why his mother didn’t see the value of what he was doing. He felt that she was holding him back and not allowing him to pursue his true interests. “Why can’t you see how important this is to me ” Jack asked his mother angrily. “I’m never going to be happy if I have to spend my life doing things that I show no interest in just because they are practical or make you proud.”
The once peaceful home was filled with tension and anger. His mother’s voice grew louder as she shouted, “You can’t just do whatever you want! You should be responsible for your future!” Jack, fueled by his own frustration, shouted back, “I am tired of you always telling me what to do! I am not a child anymore! You only cared about your own feelings! You never thought about my feelings!” They were so caught up in their own anger and hurt that they failed to see how their words and actions were affecting each other.
