On cold winter days in Beijing, some restaurants are spreading warmth by offering free dishes to people in need, such as taxi drivers and street cleaners. In this way, they are making a difference to the lives of many.
For example, Wang Hong, the boss of a barbecue restaurant, has been offering free drinks to delivery drivers and street cleaners since 2012. Recently, he started a free-meal project with the help of the neighborhood. For him, it’s personal. “When I first came to the city, I had nothing. I was learning in a restaurant. People helped me even though they didn’t know me.” he said, “This is my way of giving back to the society and teaching my child to be thankful.” His restaurant welcomes anyone in need. The meals are simple but hearty— a bowl of soup, with rice, noodles or dumplings. “We try to serve food people like.” he said, “And there is always something to satisfy everyone.”
Wang is not alone. Yushiji, another restaurant also offers meals to the people in need at a low price. For just 12 yuan, customers can enjoy a hot, hearty meal that usually costs much more. According to the manager of the restaurant, Li Jun, customers in need can get either beef soup with a Chinese pancake or noodles with mutton. Noodles are refilled free.
Delivery drivers like Fan Xingang often come and eat here. “My friends told me about this place. It’s not just good for the low price.” Fan said, “They show us respect and kindness.”
Beyond Beijing, similar actions can be seen in Shanghai, Tianjin, Heze and Yinchuan. The hot meal on cold winter days is warming up more people in need, one meal at a time.
4. Why does Wang Hong offer free drinks and meals
A. To attract more customers. B. To pay back to the society.
C. To help his child study better. D. To get on well with neighbors.
5. What might Fan Xingang agree with
A. Delivery drivers get a high pay. B. The meals fill both stomach and heart.
C. There is no free lunch in the world. D. Restaurants should help people in need.
6. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Beijing takes lead in many ways. B. People shouldn’t show off wealth.
C. Kindness spreads widely in cities. D. More people need help in big cities.
7. What’s the structure of the whole passage

Data shows that 2024 was the hottest year since 1961. The average temperature in China reached 10.92°C last year, which is 1.03°C higher than the usual average, according to official records.
Global warming is the main reason for China’s higher-than-normal temperatures. It has caused sea level rising, glacier melting (冰川融化), and more extreme weather, including longer heat waves and fewer cold days. The El Nino phenomenon—the warming of water in the Pacific Ocean—also adds to rising temperatures. During the later stages of an El Nino event, global temperatures usually rise, making global warming worse and causing more extreme weather.
A 1°C rise in temperature has a strong influence on nature. Sea levels may rise by 2.3 meters over time, threatening (威胁) coastal areas. Higher temperatures also harm wild crops and bring more pests (害虫). Some animals and plants may die out because they cannot adapt (适应) fast enough. Studies suggest that a 1.58°C rise could lead to the loss of over 10% of kinds of living things.
Higher temperatures may increase crop production temporarily in some places. However, in the long term, farming will face bigger changes and possible reductions because of less rainfall and higher temperatures. Water shortages caused by less rain could get worse too, possibly affecting up to 1.7 billion people. Illnesses related to heat, like heatstroke and heat exhaustion, are becoming more common. Longer heat waves lead to higher death rates, showing the need for better healthcare and measures to prevent harm.
The year 2025 seems to continue with higher-than-normal temperatures. On New Year’s Day, temperatures in areas south of the Yangtze River were over 15°C, far from the cold usually expected in winter.
To deal with these problems, experts suggest developing technology to predict (预测) extreme weather, like heat waves, to reduce risks and improve preparedness.
12. Which is one of the reasons for the global warming according to Paragraph 2
A. The sea level rising. B. The glacier melting.
C. The extreme weather. D. The El Nino phenomenon.
13. What does the underlined word “temporarily” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. For a short time. B. For a long time.
C. In a special period. D. From time to time.
14. What’s the influence caused by the rising temperatures
A. It will cause more rainfall in the long term.
B. It is bad for wild crops and pests to grow well.
C. It influences farming and makes more people ill.
D. It may make the sea levels go up to 2.3 meters high.
15. What will the writer probably talk about next
A. How the rising temperatures will influence the whole world.
B. What new technology will be developed and used in practice.
C Why it is important to reduce risks and improve preparedness.
D. What extreme weather will be successfully predicted in the future.
三、任务型阅读(本题有5小题,每小题2分;共计10分)

Body language is how we communicate without words or sound (nonverbal communication). Some researchers think we communicate with body language between 50 and 70 percent of the time. That is a lot of nonverbal communication. Experts who study body language agree that body language can tell us what someone is thinking or feeling. ___16___
Facial expressions are probably the first and best clues as to what a person is feeling, even if they are saying something different. So many emotions can be shown by the face, such as happiness, anger, confusion, and surprise. And facial expressions are used around the world. ___17___
Your mouth alone can say a lot. Smiling is probably the best-known way you can communicate with your body. ___18___ It may mean the person is happy, but it may also express false happiness or sarcasm. If the mouth is turned down, it may mean that the person is sad or even in pain.
___19___ If a person looks directly into your eyes while having a conversation, this might mean that the person is interested in what you said. But someone who stares at you for a long time may be threatening.
You can use body language to better understand how someone else feels. You can also use it yourself to show how you are feeling. So if you want to show someone that you are interested in what they are saying, stand up straight, uncross those arms, and look directly into his or her eyes. That person will get the message.
A. Eyes can say a lot too. B. This means they do not change much from culture to culture. C. Here are some interesting examples you may know. D. This might mean you are interested in what others said. E. However, a smile can mean different things.

Save the Earth: Let’s Do Our Part!
The earth is the only home for everyone on it. It’s crying for our help now. As middle school students, we have the power to make a difference and help save the earth!
To protect the earth, we can start by saving water, planting more trees, and reducing pollution. We can also save animals and recycle whenever possible. We can also choose to ride a bike instead of driving a car to help stop pollution, and make sure to always throw trash in the proper bins.
By doing our part we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a better future for ourselves and generations to come.
