Four Most Incredible Stadiums in North America
Estadio Azteca
Maybe it’s not the nicest, but it is a must-visit stadium(体育馆)in Mexico. Lying in the suburbs of Santa Ursula in Mexico City, it is the stadium that hosts the national soccer game in Mexico. When the 1970 World Cup was there, it hosted 10 matches, including the semi-final, and the final between Brazil and Italy. Estadio Azteca is the largest stadium in Mexico, with a capacity(容量)of 87,523.
Olympic Stadium
Given that Canada doesn’t have that many professional sports teams (at least not with the same popularity of US teams), stadiums north of the border are generally smaller and don’t quite get the same investment(投资)that stadiums south of the border do. The stadium was used for the Montreal Expos, and now is carefully used for soccer games. In fact, it’s set to host some World Cup games in 2026, but anybody who’s been inside can tell you it’s not a stadium fit to host such a big event.
Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is one of the best stadiums in North America, and not just for sports, but for concerts and other events as well. If you are traveling into New York City by train, you will see the stadium right as you enter the city, above the train station. Before you get to your seats, the outskirts of the stadium actually look like a high-end hotel. It won’t disappoint(使失望)you.
Michigan Stadium
Would you be surprised to know that the second largest stadium in the world is a college football stadium That’s right. Michigan Stadium, home of the University of Michigan Wolverines, is the largest stadium in the United States and the second-largest stadium in the world. It has a capacity of 107,601.When you see Michigan Stadium, you know you’re talking about college football.

There can be magic in the touch of a hand that loves you. It brings comfort and a silent promise that says, “I am here and you are not alone.”
I memorized every detail about my children. As babies, they reached for me whenever they were hungry or tired or just needed to be held. Sometimes, if they woke in the night, just the touch of my hand would ease them back to sleep. They clung to me when they took their first steps and we held hands when crossing streets and walking from the car to their classroom on their first day of school.
As they grew older and more independent, I noticed that they didn’t hold my hand much any more. I told myself it was part of growing up, and I should just be glad they could do things on their own now.
But when you’ve been needed so much for such a long time, it’s hard to step back and feel unnecessary.
Then one day, I was visiting my oldest son in New York, where he was working as an actor on a TV show. As we were about to cross a busy street that was filled with traffic, he grabbed my hand and shouted, “Hang on to me, Mom,” then led me safely across.
At that moment, I realized two things. First, my boy had become a man. Second, it was clear that our roles had changed. We still needed each other, but in different ways than before.
That scene has replayed in various ways with each of my three children. They have all taught me to lean on them just as they once leaned on me, and that we can always lean on each other. We live miles apart, but stay in touch every day. There is magic and comfort and healing in the touch of a hand that loves you, even if it “touches” you from afar.

In a new set of studies, researchers found that people showed greater goal commitment and performance when they told their goal to someone they believed had higher status(地位)than themselves. In these studies, higher-status people were those who the participants thought had more prestige(威望)than they did.
In one study, 17l undergraduate students were seated at computers and told they had to move a slider(滑块) on the screen to the number 50 as many times as possible within the given time. After counting how many times they successfully did this, they had to do it again, but this time they were told to set and write down a goal.
The experimenter then informed the participants that a lab assistant would come around and check on their goals. In some cases, the lab assistant was dressed in a suit and introduced himself as a doctoral student in the business school who was an expert on today’s study topic. For other participants, the same lab assistant dressed in casual clothing and introduced himself as a student at a local community college who was working part time at the business school. A third group of participants didn’t share their goals with the lab assistant.
Results showed that participants who shared their goals with the higher-status lab assistant reported they were more willing to achieve the goal they set for themselves than those who told the lower-status assistant. And participants who shared their goal with the lower-status assistant performed no better than those who told no one about their goal. “These findings provide evidence that refutes popular media recommendations that one should stay silent about a goal,” said Howard Klein, lead author of the new study.
“Contrary to what you may have heard, in most cases you get more benefit from sharing your goal than if you don’t as long as you share it with someone whose opinion you value,” Klein said. “You don’t want him to think less of you because you didn’t achieve your goal.”
28. Why did the lab assistant change his clothes
A. To act out roles of different status.
B. To approach the students more easily.
C. To work for different business schools.
D. To avoid being recognized by the students.
29. What does the underlined word “refutes” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Deals with. B. Catches up with. C. Says no to. D. Relies on.
30. Why do we benefit from sharing our goals with the right person
A. We care about what he thinks of us.
B. We get useful advice and support from him.
C. We improve ourselves according to his opinions.
D. We find a strong sense of purpose by sharing.
31. What might be the suitable title for the text
A. Share your goals—but do use the right words
B. Share your goals—but be careful who you tell
C. Share your goals—and you’ll surely achieve them
D. Share your goals—and you’ll get mentally strong

In recent years, Britain has seen a rise in interest in learning and teaching Chinese as a second language. In 2015, Britain’s Department for Education devoted 10 million pounds to Chinese teaching in state schools across the country. Hundreds of pupils are taking part in the program, which aims to make at least 5, 000 young people fluent in Chinese by 2022.
A Chinese-English nursery named Hatching Dragons was established in London in 2015, accepting babies from as young as 6 months to 5 years old. Two years later, the first bilingual (双语的) English and Chinese primary school was opened at Kensington, London.
Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool, which opened Friday at Bromley in southeastern suburb of London, is the first Chinese immersion (沉浸式) preschool founded in Britain. After three years of planning and preparation, the school has drawn expert opinions on Chinese immersion learning from Europe, the US and China. Bromley Councillor Kim Botting, who has visited China three times, is very interested in Britain-China education exchanges. He called the school a wonderful and fantastic thing for the community while attending the opening ceremony on Friday.
The local community showed huge interest and support to the newly established preschool. Xu Zhi, head teacher of Petts Wood, said the preschool offered up to 25 places and six children registered (before the opening, with many families signed up for trial lessons in the next few weeks.
“I had the idea of establishing a bilingual preschool three years ago when I realized that more and more British families wanted an earlier start for their children’s Chinese learning,” Xu said. “Many high school students in Britain also learn Chinese at school for two or three hours each week, but that is not enough and also a bit late for language learning.”
32. What do we know about Petts Wood Mandarin-English Preschool

During the summer before Patty entered fifth grade, she decided to try a new sport. Swim training was nearly over and Patty was the fastest swimmer in her age group. She had always been the best. The neighborhood was offering a one-week tennis training course. Patty and her friend Darla got permission from their parents to join.
On Saturday morning, Darla’s mom took the girls to a store and bought them each a good, used tennis racket. “If you girls stick to tennis, then we’ll talk about a new racket. These will do for now.” The girls were excited about their new purchases. On Monday morning, at 7:00 a.m., Patty’s mom woke her up. “It’s time for tennis!” Patty covered her face. “Mom, it’s too early!” She made great effort to get out of bed and down to the breakfast table. Patty finished breakfast and ran to Darla’s house, then they walked to the court.
Mrs. Cane, the tennis coach, lined everyone up and started with the basics. After that, Mrs. Cane tirelessly taught them to practice their forehand and backhand. By the end of the week, Patty had made impressive progress. Mrs. Cane commented that Patty had lots of potential. Darla, on the other hand, was struggling. The other teenagers were having a tough time of it, too. Patty was the only one who seemed to get somewhere.
Since then, Darla had always been out in the August heat, practicing her serves or hitting the ball. Patty wasn’t really interested. She felt she was such a “natural” for tennis that she really didn’t need to practice. By the end of the summer, Darla began to get the hang of it. She joined a neighborhood junior tennis team. There would be matches every Thursday. Patty wanted to join as well, but she didn’t want to miss her favorite TV show. She told herself that she would join it when she got some free time. If Darla had fun, she would join the team in the spring.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
The week before school started, Mrs. Cane held another training course.
Paragraph 2:
Patty couldn’t stop thinking of her poor performance on the way home.

Dear teachers and fellow students,
I feel privileged to give you a brief introduction to the activity themed “showing respect for our parents” held in our school.
As we all know, filial affection for parents is highly stressed in Chinese traditional education. To deepen our understanding of it, we are gathered here today to attend the activity. As scheduled, the activity consists of four parts, a themed speech, short drama performances, a photo show, and a painting exhibition, the specific time of which has been listed on the notice board.
I do hope we could have a meaningful and enjoyable experience. Thank you for your attendance.
67.【参考范文】
The week before school started, Mrs. Cane held another training course. Darla and Patty signed up immediately. In a class, Mrs. Cane asked the teenagers to play in turn. Darla came first, impressing others with her excellent performance. Mrs. Cane was pleased with Darla’s progress. “Well, I can tell who’s been practicing!” she smiled. Soon it was Patty’s turn. Everyone looked at the “talent” expectantly. Yet, Patty had not practiced and was far behind the rest, which was a shock for all. Patty was upset and absent until the class was over.
Patty couldn’t stop thinking of her poor performance on the way home. She realized she needed change if she still wanted to continue with tennis. The next day, Patty came to Darla’s team when they practiced to ask whether she could join. Warmly welcomed, she became a member of the team that day. Weak though she was, Patty enjoyed herself and worked hard at practice. She finally found that “natural talent” got her nowhere without diligence and she was able to join in the fun. That was one of the best lessons of her life.

M: Eh, I think I can help distribute the supplies and cheer for the athletes.
W: That’s a great idea.

M: Thanks for calling our competition hotline. We have all the information you need to enter this exciting painting competition. The most important date for you to remember is the one you have to send in your paintings by. That’s the thirty first of august. We need them all in by that date, because the winning paintings will be in a show held from October fifteenth to November, first at the school of arts. The next important bit of information is the topic for the competition. Last year’s topic of cities was very successful.
This year, we’d like to see paintings showing your ideas on the subject of the future. Think about your world, your family and home. How might it look 100 years from now Unfortunately, we can’t return your paintings, but to show that you’ve entered, all of you will receive a certificate.
It’ll look great on your bedroom wall next to your posters and photos. We welcome entries from school groups, so make sure you tell your teacher about the competition. Schools can win a special course with Barry Wells. He’s an artist from Australia who’s produced pictures for many children’s storybooks sold here in England. He’ll be doing classes in how to draw cartoons, good luck and happy painting.
