阅读理解。(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Winter can be a hard time for animals. The weather may be wet and cold, and food can be hard to find under the snow. But nature has given animals different ways to survive (存活). Let’s look at how animals go through this season.
Some animals get fat in the fall. They eat and eat, then their bodies can store the food quickly. So they needn’t eat more in winter. Moose (驼鹿) are such animals. They store (贮存) food in their bodies as fat. Their bodies use the stored fat as energy. Moose will also grow heavy coats of hair to keep warm as the weather becomes colder.
Other animals store fresh food for the cold days. For example, many animals spend cold days in burrows (地洞) like bears . They stay inside and sleep in most of the winter. On warmer winter days, they wake up and then eat some stored food.
Unlike bears, hibernators don’t eat at all. Before winter, these animals eat and eat to get fat. When winter comes, they sleep all day and all night. Their hearts beat very slowly and their temperature goes down. In this way, they don’t use much of the fat stored in their bodies.
Still other animals can move south before winter and come back after spring. This is called migration (迁徙). In the fall, many birds fly south in large groups. In spring when the temperature goes up, they will return.

The Waterfall in Mount Lu Viewed from Afar
Li Bai
The sunlit Censer Peak exhales incense-like cloud;
Like an upended stream the cataract sounds loud.
Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high;
As if the Silver River fell from the blue sky.
(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
The poem above is one of Li Bai’s most famous poems. Li Bai is seen as one of the greatest poets in Chinese history. His amazing writing made the poem a part of the history of Chinese poems.
His poems often describe beautiful views of nature. This poem shows Li’s talent for writing in this way. The first two lines of the poem paint a picture. The mountain peak (山峰) looks like an incense burner (香炉) and the clouds around it are like smoke from burning incense. A waterfall hangs(悬挂)above a river and its water crashes down(飞流直下). In the last two lines, Li uses more of his imagination. The word “torrent” describes water flowing down from the sky. The waterfall is a part of the “Silver River”, also known as the Milky Way(银河).
Su Shi, a poet who lived during the Song dynasty, praised (赞赏) the poem. He said, “Li Bai is the only person in history to write such a good poem about a waterfall.”

One day, three of my friends came to our house.
They told me they were going to Africa. They asked me if I wanted to go with them. I said, “Yes, of course I’d love to.”
We started to prepare all the necessary things for the journey. Soon we were ready to go. I said goodbye to my wife and we started our journey. Our plan was to be back in two months.
We left Brazil (巴西) on the first of September, 1659. Our ship was very big but we were only seventeen men. The ship was full of things for business. We had cups, glass, mirrors, knives and other things.
At the beginning of our journey, the weather was very good, but very hot. In one week, a hurricane (飓风) came and it was threatening our ship for the next twelve days. After the hurricane passed, we saw we went quite far away from our original (原来的) journey and were instead close to the northern part of Brazil near the Orinoco River. The ship was badly damaged, so we could no more go to Africa.
The captain wanted us to go back and repair the ship, but I strongly disagreed with him. We went over the maps and decided the best thing to do was to go to Barbados and repair the ship there.
When we started this short trip, a second hurricane came. The next morning one of the sailors cried out, “Land ” and at that moment the ship stopped in shallow (浅的) water. We expected the ship to break apart (解体) at any moment because of the strong wind, so we all got into the small boat the ship carried. This was very dangerous because the seventeen of us were too crowded (拥挤的) in the boat, and it had no sail.
The waves (浪) were very big. The wind was too strong. The wind pushed us to big rocks. We knew the crash was close.
Suddenly, a huge wave came and overturned the boat. I was covered with water and couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t see the others or the boat. But I saw a little beach between the rocks.
Another wave carried me to the beach. I tried to get up. I also tried to go far away from the sea. I was able to move ten metres up. I was safe. But my arms and legs were very weak. I fell down and I was lying on the beach.

六、任务型阅读(共10小题,每空一词,每词1分,满分10分)
A Cloud is made of water drops or ice crystals floating (漂浮) in the sky. There are many kinds of cloud. Clouds are very important to Earth’s weather.
The sky can be full of water. But most of the time you can’t see the water. The drops of water are too small to see. They have turned into a gas called water vapor (水蒸气). As the water vapor goes high in the sky, the air goes cool. The cooler air causes the water droplets (微滴) to stick to things like dust (粉尘), ice or sea salt.
Clouds get their names in two ways. One way is by where they are found in the sky. Some clouds are high up in the sky. Low clouds form closer to Earth’s surface. In fact, low clouds can even touch the ground. These clouds are called fog. Middle clouds are found between low and high clouds.
Another way clouds are named is by their shape. Cirrus clouds (卷云) are high clouds. They look like feathers. Cumulus clouds (积雨云) are middle clouds. These clouds (层云) look like giant cotton balls in the sky. Stratus clouds are low clouds. They cover the sky like bed sheets.
Most of the water in clouds is in very small droplets. The droplets are not heavy so they can float in the air. Sometimes those droplets join with other droplets. Then they turn into larger drops (水珠). When that happens, gravity (重力) causes them to fall to the Earth. We call the falling water drops rain. When the air is colder, the water may form snowflakes instead.
Clouds are important in our daily life. At night, clouds reflect (反射) heat and keep the ground warmer. During the day, clouds make shade that can keep us cooler. Studying clouds helps people have a better understanding of Earth’s weather.
What Are Clouds
Introduction Clouds are of great 71 to Earth’s weather.
Ways of forming clouds Small drops of water turn into a gas called water vapor. As the water vapor 72 in the sky, the air goes cool. The cooler air finally causes the small water drops to form clouds.
73 of clouds High clouds, middle clouds and low clouds get their names through their 74 . When lots of low clouds touch the ground, the weather will be 75 . According to their shape, clouds also have three names. Cirrus clouds look like feathers while stratus clouds are like bed sheets. Those like giant cotton balls are called Cumulus clouds.
Different forms Small and 76 droplets float in the air. If they join with each other, they will turn into larger drops. Gravity makes larger drops fall down to Earth. Then larger drops turn into falling water drops called 77 . When the temperature in the air gets 78 , snowflakes may form.
