The customs in different countries are rather different. If I have dinner with a Chinese host, he always puts more food onto my plates as soon as I have emptied it.That often discomforts me greatly. I have to eat the food even if I don’t want to, because it is considered bad manners in the West to leave one' s food on the plate. I have already noticed that when a Chinese sits at an American’s dinner party, he very often refuses the offer of food or drink though he is in fact still hungry or thirsty. This might be good manners in China, but it is not in the West at all. In the United States, it is impolite to keep asking someone again and again or insist on his accepting something.Americans have a direct way of speaking. If they want something, they will ask for it. If not, they will say, "No, thanks.” When an American is fed with beer by the host, for example, he might say, "No, thanks. I’ll take some diet, Pepsi-Cola (百事可乐) if you have it. ”That is what an American will do.So when you go to the United States, you had better remember the famous saying:When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

The earliest reports of circles were around 1940, although they had probably occurred for many years before that. But it was not until the 1970s that people began to take photographs of the circle sand to discuss how they were made.
Many of the people who have reported circles say that first they saw lights in the sky or heard loud noises and then, afterwards, they discovered circular marks(圆形的标记)on the ground.
Most of the reports come from Australia, where the circles have usually occurred in fields of corn. In the United States of America, circles have formed in woods, bending trees almost flat.

In Brazil, in 1969, a lot of people watched as a bright light over a grassy area for about 45 minutes. When the light had gone, they found a circle of flattened grass.
A woman in France reported a circle which formed very close to her house after she had seen a bright light in the sky. In Russia, some scientists reported hearing strange voices and then seeing a huge ‘space machine’ take off before they discovered a large circle where the machine had stood. And there are reports of circles occurring as far apart as Japan, Switzerland and New Zealand, as well as in Scotland and England.
The following descriptions are from the people who have seen the mysterious circles.
1. It was a single circle, with all the grass lying in the swirl (漩涡) which went clockwise(顺时针)
2. There was a big circle and four small ones close to it, one to the north, one to the south, one to ch cast and one to the west.
3. The two circles. A bigger one and a smaller one, were overlapping (重叠) a bit. The corn in the small one was lying in a swirl which went around in the opposite.

Dear Bill,
You must be excited about coming to China soon. Let me give you some advice about Chinese customs. In China, you're supposed to shake hands when you meet someone for the first time.
If you are invited by a Chinese family, you can give the host some fruit or flowers. But it's impolite to give a clock as a gift since it is considered unlucky in Chinese culture.
When you are eating at the table, it's impolite to stick your chopsticks into your food . You are not supposed to point at anyone with your chopsticks.
Have a good trip!
Best wishes.
