CPR(心肺复苏术) saves lives — but not as many as it should, because too few Americans know how to perform it. When people experience heart attacks(心脏病发作) in public or at home, there often isn’t anyone around who knows how to help. With each passing minute, the chances of surviving(幸存) a heart attack go down.
Cindy Huang, 49, is a lucky woman. She was nearing the finish line of this year’s 10-Mile Run in Washington, D.C, when she suddenly fell from a heart attack. The only reason she survived was that bystanders(旁观者) knew CPR and performed it on her at once. It took them just eight minutes to bring her back. Huang was then taken to a local hospital, and three months later, she was fully well and back at work.
One of those bystanders, Sanjay Desai, got his CPR training in medical school. “I’m an ICU doctor. I’ve saved hundreds of patients, but this is the first time outside the hospital,” he said. “It’s an unusual and unforgettable experience for me.”
“We know that bystander CPR can improve someone’s chances of survival,” said Comilla Sasson, another doctor. “Bystander CPR is a hands-only skill that everyone should learn. In just a minute or two, people can quickly learn how to save a life. We need more people to understand that CPR isn’t just for doctors. Everyone can do it, and it really matters!”
23. What can we know from Paragraph 1
A. The importance of learning CPR.
B. The need for more medical workers.
C. The reason why so many Americans won’t do CPR.
24. Which of the following is TRUE about Cindy Huang
A. She finished the 10-mile race.
B. She nearly died of a heart attack.
C. She has a family history of heart disease.
25. Why did Dr. Desai think saving Huang was so special to him
A. He had very little time to save her.
B. He used a new method of saving lives.
C. It happened in a place different from the ones before.
26. Which opinion does Dr. Sasson probably agree with
A. Everyone can be a lifesaver.
B. Saving lives is just a doctor’s job.
C. Bystander CPR is simple but often doesn’t work.

Scientists have developed a way to read minds, translating unspoken thoughts into written words. It’s the first time it’s been done without having to put anything into the brain. They used artificial intelligence (AI)(人工智能). It is the name given to a computer system that is able to “think” for itself and carry out tasks that usually require human intelligence.
Scientists used a special scanner(扫描器). The machine can see where blood runs, which shows the parts of the brain that are most active. People taking part in the experiment(实验) listened to the radio for 16 hours as their brains were scanned. The AI tool learned to connect certain brain activity with words they heard. After that, each person was asked to think of a story, and the AI tool managed to pick up these thoughts as they happened.
The results had about a 50% accuracy rate(准确率), although the AI found it hard to work out the meaning of pronouns, such as he or she, her or him. It could usually understand the meaning of what someone was thinking rather than the exact words. The AI was personalized(个性化的), so when it had learned from one person but it was tested on another, it couldn’t understand their thoughts.
The experienced scientists say they understand the risks of it being used badly. Scientist Jerry Tang told a newspaper, “We want to make sure people only use these kinds of technologies when they want to, and that it helps them.” The scientists hope it will help people who are still awake but have lost the ability to speak, to communicate once again.
27. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. AI. B. The brain. C. A way.
28. What is the main purpose of Paragraph 2
A. To explain the results of the experiment.
B. To describe the process of the experiment.
C. To list the difficulties with the experiment.
29. What can we learn from the text
A. It is not difficult to take AI under control.
B. AI is so wise that it can treat people with medical problems.
C. It’s expected that AI will help those speechless exchange ideas.
30. What can be the best title for the text
A. High Risks of Using AI
B. Mind-reading Development
C. Importance of Human Brain

As teens today become more connected with social media, they are also becoming addicted(上瘾的). Social media platform TikTok has made it worse. From jokes to cosplay to science, the app has it all. You could never call TikTok boring.
Some researchers wondered what influence such a fun app might have on teens. A research team interviewed 31 teens between the ages of 13 and 18. The study team noted that more than 60% of the 31 teens said they often used TikTok. “The main reason is that TikTok provides interesting things that they can enjoy with their friends,” one researcher said.
At the same time, some teens were uncomfortable with the addictive nature of the app. “When I do use it,” one teenager explained, “I go on it for hours at a time without realizing it.” In addition, some teens said that the app’s videos of many seemingly perfect lives could hurt their self-respect. “I see someone’s really cute dog, or happy family. There’s just so many things that I can constantly compare. It also makes me a little anxious,” said another teenager.
So how can teenagers avoid those bad influences They can control their addictive habits by reducing their screen time. Choosing a certain time as their “social media time” is a good way. They can also put their phones down for a few minutes and enjoy the real world. Take a walk, meet up with friends, and choose to make it a phone-less adventure. It may be difficult, but teenagers can do it.
56. What can we find in the app — TikTok according to Paragraph 1

第二节 书面表达
A Week Without Screen Time
Recently we have a heated discussion on the activity — A Week Without Screen Time. Opinions vary from person to person. (仁者见仁,智者见智。引出下文不同观点)
Some students are in favor of it. Their reasons are listed as follows. First and foremost, it can improve relationships. For example, we can have more face-to-face communication with parents and friends instead of chatting online. Second, it also allows us to enjoy nature. We can go outside to appreciate the beauty of the world around us. However, others are strongly against it. From their point of view for one thing, it’s bad for searching for information. For another, it’s impossible to for them to watch interesting videos, which gets in the way of relaxation.
Personally speaking, this activity is beneficial. Spending too much time on screens do harm to our eyes and makes us less focused. (A week without them helps us develop better habits and makes us realize there are many other interesting things to do in life.)
