Dogs are friends of human beings. We love dogs for many reasons, such as their loyalty (忠诚), their sense of fun and their soft bodies. Now people have found another reason why humans might like dogs: their wagging (摇摆的) tails.
Dogs and wolves are of the same family. They both wag their tails. A group of scientists tried to compare these two types of animals on tail-wagging. Surprisingly, scientists found that young dogs
wagged their tails far more often than young wolves.
Scientists came up with two possible reasons. The first is connected to the rhythm(节奏) of tail-wagging. Rhythm is an important part of music. Humans like music and rhythm, so we would like to choose dogs that wag their tails more often.
The second reason is that humans prefer dogs which look cute. These cute dogs happen to wag their tails more often, so people would like to keep dogs as pets.
Scientists need more research because no one understands how or why wagging happens.“We still don't know exactly which parts of the dog brain control the tail-wagging,” a scientist in this group said.

According to a new study, writing by hand can encourage the brain to develop better than typing. Scientists think this is helpful for children.
A team did the study. It's from Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Participants(参与者) needed to either write by hand on paper or type on a keyboard after seeing a word on a computer.
During the study, the team tested their brains and collected the results of the brain electrical activities into a computer. When participants were writing, many areas of their brains were active, including the parts for visualizing(使具象化), doing with information about senses(感觉), and body movement skills. This is because handwriting a word needs visualizing letters and using body movement skills to shape them. However, when participants were typing, there was little activity in the same parts of the brain.
“When you are typing, the same simple movement of your fingers is taking part in producing every letter,” said Audrey van der Meer, a writer of the study. “However, when you' re writing by hand, you quickly feel the differences between producing letter A and letter B in your body.”
The results show that writing by hand can help children learn. Scientists hope that teachers can make the most of it in school.

A team of students at Eindhoven University of Technology have invented a solar-powered car. The car, called Stella Terra, is the first solar-powered car that can travel off-road(越野) for long distances. To build Stella Terra, the students had to build the whole car, from top to bottom.
On top are the solar panels(面板). Most solar panels are only about 20% efficient (有效的). That means they waste about 80% of the sunlight they get. But the Stella Terra's solar panels are 97% efficient. Like most electric cars, Stella Terra collects energy in a battery. When it's sunny, the car can run for 440 miles a day. The car weighs just 2,600 pounds. That's about two-thirds the weight of an ordinary car. On the bottom, the team invented a special system(系统) to help the car do with heavy shaking when driving off-road.
The team took the car on its biggest test. It had to travel through forests, riverbeds, desert sand, and high mountains. The car succeeded in passing the test.
Bob van Ginkel, one of the students leading the project, says, "The car was actually very comfortable in the off-road environment as it's very light and it runs without much shaking.” The team is proud of their car and hopes that car companies start to copy their ideas.
