The Sami are a group of people living in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. There are only about 80,000 Sami people in the world, and most of them live a life that is similar to ours. Only a few of them keep the traditional lifestyle (生活方式). They move from one place to another with their reindeer (驯鹿). Their life is almost the same as it was 1,000 years ago.
In winter, the reindeer dig through the snow to find plants for food. In spring, these plants become very dry. Then the Sami move their reindeer to the seaside. They live on the plants there. When winter comes again and snow falls, the Sami and their reindeer start moving back to their winter homes.
Traditionally, the Sami live in tents because they move so often. They wear beautiful blue and red traditional clothes. They make shoes, jackets and trousers from reindeer skin (皮). They usually walk or travel in the snow, but luckily they have sleds (雪橇) too. Their reindeer help move the sleds.
The long trips, often in bad weather, make life very hard for the Sami. More and more of them are staying in villages at the seaside.
