Zhang Guimei, who founded a high school for girls to study for free in Lijiang, Yunnan province in 2008, has helped about 1,200 girls go to college in the past 13 years.
She came up with the idea of setting up a high school especially for girls after she visited the homes of the girls who gave up studying. She learned that most of the dropouts (辍学生) would get married. Poor families couldn’t pay the tuition fees (学费). Some girls had to do chores at home.
Between 2003 and 2007, Zhang spent her vacations on the streets, asking people to give away money for her girls’ school. Many people thought she might lie and cheat money from them. So she only raised about 10,000 yuan.
In 2007, after her dream was reported, the Yunnan government invested 60 million yuan in the project. The Huaping High School for Girls was completed (完成) in 2008 with only one teaching building. In 2009, after seeing no hope, nine teachers resigned, leaving just eight to teach there. In 2011, the first intake of students graduated and all went to universities or vocational colleges. By 2015, construction (建设) of all the school’s facilities (学校设备) was completed.

Do you dream of having a sister or brother According to the recent CCTV news report, China has relaxed its one-child policy (政策) to two-child policy. The government has allowed families to have two children.
We did a survey(调查)last week about the two-child policy. On the one hand, up to 53% of parents say they would like to have a second child. “I am excited about hearing the news. To have two kids means the children can look after each other in the future. Not only can they have a partner to play with, but they can also learn to help one another. This helps them to develop a better personality(性格). I think I won't miss the chance to own a second kid,” says Li Mei, a mother of a 5-year-old daughter from Shanghai. On the other hand, about 40% of parents say they may not have a second child. One reason is that they are afraid that the child's everyday expenses (费用) and education would be a big problem. They do not have enough money to pay for them. “I think the policy itself is pretty good, but I don't think it interests me. 1 won't think about a second child. Everything is very expensive at present, and I find it very difficult to raise(养育) another child,” says Han Dong from Chongqing, who has just had a boy.
Though people have different opinions, they agree that China has already developed the two-child policy.
