When it comes to having trouble falling asleep, people have their own special ways to solve it. Some depend on a glass of milk while others count sheep. Counting sheep is a mental (心理的) exercise used in some cultures to put you to sleep. But does counting sheep actually put a person to sleep
In fact, to answer the question, the researchers at Oxford University recently found some people who had trouble falling asleep and monitored (检测) them as they tried one of three different ways. One of them was counting sheep.
The study divided 41 insomniacs into three groups. One group was asked to imagine beautiful and peaceful scenes like waterfalls when trying to fall asleep. Another group was asked to simply go about their daily life. The last group was asked to count imaginary sheep.
Researchers found that those in the first group fell asleep about 20 minutes faster than they did on other, non-experimental nights, while insomniacs who had to count sheep took longer than usual. Although there were no scientific studies to support it, the researchers have their own reasons.
First, the researchers believed that the act of imagining a peaceful scene requires more mental energy than keeping counting sheep. When people spend too much energy on mental imagination, it may make them more tired, which can help to sleep faster.
Another reason was that the peaceful scene way may have simply been easier to continue because it is more interesting than keeping counting sheep.
Researchers also said that the act of counting sheep may also add to anxiety (焦虑) for someone, making falling asleep that more difficult. Though the sample size of the study was actually small, the results certainly still call this common sleep way into question.
23.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.The sheep. B.The results.
C.The researchers. D.The people with insomniacs.
24.How many reasons do scientists show that counting sheep may not help people fall asleep

B.What Do Researchers Do to Help Us Sleep
C.Do You Like Counting Sheep
D.Does Counting Sheep Put a Person to Sleep

Litterati is the name of a company that’s trying to make the world a cleaner place and doing a fine job of it. It has created an app that people can use to upload information about the litter they collect outside, such as its appearance, material and location. Shared online, this information helps to build a global data (数据) base of “litter maps”, which can influence government management and packaging design.
Jeff Kirschner is the inventor of Litterati app. He came up with the idea while walking in a northern California forest with his four-year-old daughter, who noticed a plastic kitty litter box in a river. Young as she was, she expressed her worries about the box being somewhere that it wasn’t supposed to be. This knowledge stays with Kirschner as adults -The litter problem is so huge: What’s a single person supposed to do
That’s where Kirschner thinks an app can help. “Society’s failure to solve the litter problem has not been from lacking (缺乏) government support. There have been public service announcements, neighborhood litter walks and coastal cleanups. And these activities successfully raise public knowledge of pollution,” said Kirschner. But he believes one thing is missing from the discussion-online data-and if these are added in, people can start solving the problem in a better way.
Uploading pictures to an app shows users that they’re not the only ones picking up litter from public places. And the data has been gathered rapidly, telling a story that helps people understand who picked up what, where and when. “In San Francisco, the Litterati app was able to discover and map more than 5,000 pieces of rubbish in order to find out how much was produced by cigarettes exactly. Using this information, the city successfully doubled an existing cigarette sales tax (香烟销售税). In the Netherlands, Litterati’s data helped push brand Anta Flu to repackage its hard candies in paper, rather than non-recyclable plastic,” said Kirschner.
Litterati shows a positive we-can-do-it attitude. “Its goal isn’t to shame. It’s to provide a real way to solve the litter problem and encourage people to be part of the project,” explained Kirschner.
27.The underlined word “upload” in Paragraph I probably means ________in Chinese.
A.搜寻 B.上传 C.储存 D.处理
28.What does Kirschner think has caused failure to solve the liter problem
A.Lack of online data about litter.
B.The public’s refusal of community action.
C.Absence of government support.
D.People’s poor environmental knowledge.
29.What can people do with Litterati app
A.They can know where to drop litter.
B.They can invite more people to join them.
C.They can find an area littered with rubbish.
D.They can help people sort litter for recycling.
30.Why did Kirschner give the examples in Paragraph 4
A.To encourage a wider use of the app.
B.To introduce the function of the app.
C.To voice his views on managing the app
D.To show the practical advantage of the app.
