Epcot
After Magic Kingdom, the best-known theme park in Disney World is Epcot. This is a good place for curious kids who want to learn about the planets, the stars, and the workings of the human body. The good and wine festival is another big draw to Epcot.

C
Not sleeping enough or getting a bad night’s sleep over and over makes it hard to control your appetite. And that sets you up for all sorts of health problems, including obesity (肥胖) , heart disease and high blood pressure.
The link between poor sleep and a greater body mass index(BMI) has been shown in study after study, but researchers typically relied on the memories of the participants to record how well they slept.
Sleep apps on fitness trackers, smartphones and watches have changed all that. In a new study researchers tracked sleep quality for 120,000 people for up to two years.
The results showed sleep durations (持续时间) and patterns are highly variable between people. Despite that, the study found people with BMIs of 30 or above — which is considered obese by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-had slightly shorter sleep durations and more variable sleep patterns.
It didn’t take much less sleep to see the effect. People with BMIs over 30 only slept about 15 minutes less than those less weighty people.
There were some limitations to the study, naps(午睡) were not included, other health conditions could not be factored in, and people who use wearable tracking devices are typically younger, healthier and from a higher economic status than those who do not wear trackers.
“These are quite pricey devices, and they are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The results would need to be validated (确认) by the appropriate FDA-approved devices, and because the study is likely on younger people who are more economically well off, it needs further study whether that really applies to older folks with poor sleep.” said Dasgupta, the associate program director.
However, Dasgupta added, a major plus for the study is that it did monitor people for over two years, and the results corroborated previous research and were “not surprising.”
While we cannot determine the direction of association from our study result, these findings provide further support to the idea that sleep patterns are associated with weight management and overall health.
8. How does the new study differ from previous studies
A. It lasts the longest time in history. B. It uses apps to record participants’ sleep.
C. It specially improves participants’ sleep quality. D. It relied on participants’ memory to record data.
9. What is Dasgupta’s attitude toward the new finding
A. Doubtful B. Shocked C. Cautious D. Dissatisfied
10. What does the underlined word “corroborated” probably mean in Paragraph 8
A. limit B. correct C. confirm D. combine
11. What can be the best title for the text
A. Sleep Quality Varies from Person to Person
B. Sleep Apps Are Widely Used to Monitor Sleep
C. Young People Are Paying More Attention to Obesity
D. Lack of Sleep May Be Possibly Connected with Obesity
B 9. C 10. C 11. D
根据第三段“Sleep apps on fitness trackers, smartphones and watches have changed all that. In a new study researchers tracked sleep quality for 120,000 people for up to two years.(健身追踪器、智能手机和手表上的睡眠应用改变了这一切。在一项新的研究中,研究人员对12万人的睡眠质量进行了长达两年的跟踪调查)”可知,新研究的不同在于研究人员使用睡眠应用程序来进行记录。故选B。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第七段““These are quite pricey devices, and they are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. The results would need to be validated (确认) by the appropriate FDA-approved devices, and because the study is likely on younger people who are more economically well off, it needs further study whether that really applies to older folks with poor sleep.” said Dasgupta, the associate program director.(“这些都是相当昂贵的设备,而且它们没有得到美国食品和药物管理局的批准。研究结果需要得到FDA批准的适当设备的验证,而且由于这项研究可能是针对经济状况较好的年轻人,因此还需要进一步研究,这是否真的适用于睡眠质量差的老年人。项目副主任达斯古普塔说)”可知,达斯古普塔认为这次研究有一些局限性,因此是否符合老年人的情况还有待进一步观察。由此推知,他的态度是谨慎的。故选C。
【10题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“The link between poor sleep and a greater body mass index(BMI) has been shown in study after study, but researchers typically relied on the memories of the participants to record how well they slept.(一项又一项的研究表明,睡眠质量差和身体质量指数(BMI)较高之间存在联系,但研究人员通常依靠参与者的记忆来记录他们的睡眠质量)”可知,以前的研究已经证明了睡眠不足和体重之间存在着联系,再根据划线词后文“previous research and were “not surprising.””
根据第四段“The results showed sleep durations (持续时间) and patterns are highly variable between people. Despite that, the study found people with BMIs of 30 or above — which is considered obese by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-had slightly shorter sleep durations and more variable sleep patterns.(结果显示,人与人之间睡眠持续时间和模式差异很大。尽管如此,研究发现,BMI指数在30或以上的人——美国疾病控制与预防中心认为这是肥胖——睡眠时间略短,睡眠模式更多变)”和最后一段“While we cannot determine the direction of association from our study result, these findings provide further support to the idea that sleep patterns are associated with weight management and overall health.(虽然我们不能从我们的研究结果中确定关联的方向,但这些发现为睡眠模式与体重管理和整体健康相关的观点提供了进一步的支持)”可知,文章主要介绍新的研究再一次证实睡眠问题和肥胖以及其他疾病有关。
D
It could have been anywhere, my first intentionally photo-free journey, but it just happened to be Ethiopia. Photographic equipment can be a great physical burden. It may weigh anything from a few hundred grams to several kilos, depending on how seriously one approaches the business of picture-taking. Yet the real burden of photography is mental, not physical; it is the feeling of needing to take photographs, that because you have a camera you must use it.
In the first few days of camera-less travel, there are certainly moments of frustration at letting one great photograph after another go past, but having no camera, and thus being unable to take photographs, surprisingly soon stops the urge to do so. Very quickly, scenes become appreciated for what they are, rather than for the photographs they would have made.
Climbing up the western wall of the Great Rift Valley, on the way to the capital, Addis Ababa, the road emerges from a tunnel onto open, grassy plains — a small piece of uncharacteristically undomesticated countryside, with an even more uncharacteristic population of wild animals. They looked magnificent in the tearing wind, and through binoculars (双筒望远镜) they could be absorbed at leisure — theirs and mine. And thus unseen, I watched them play, free from concerns as to how close I could risk going with my camera without losing the very moment I sought to capture.
Exciting though stalking (跟踪) wild creatures can be, the photographer must obviously stalk as much out of sight as possible, thus being denied any chance of actually watching them. The photographer’s mind is effectively stopped from experiencing any more than the photographic possibilities of the scene. At eye level, the camera not only creates a physical barrier but also isolates the photographer from the joyful reality of the subject, and from everywhere else around them too. Then comes the climax, the press of the button, the pull of the trigger (快门), before more stalking, more photographs and, inevitably, the stalking too far which frightens the animals to flight. The difference between looking in order to photograph and actually seeing what is there is never more distinct than when taking pictures of animals, to the extent that the two become almost mutually exclusive. There is time only for deciding the best way to take the photograph, before addressing more practical technicalities — how to keep the minibus’s wheel out of the shot of lions, or get enough depth of field so all the flamingos (火烈鸟) on the lake are in focus at once.
12. According to the first paragraph, what is the main problem that photographers face while travelling
A. Moving their heavy equipment about
B. Locating places to purchase batteries.
C. Trying to get the best possible shots.
D. Being under pressure to take photographs.
13. The writer suggests in the second paragraph that people who choose to leave their cameras at home ________.
A. conclude that the decision was unrealistic
B. rapidly lose the desire to take any photographs
C. come to consider previous trips as unsatisfactory
D. appreciate the excellence of other people’s photos
14. What does the writer suggest about the animals he sees
A. They were too far away to be usefully observed.
B. They were surprisingly unaffected by the closeness of humans.
C. They might have been enjoying the situation for more than he was.
D. They might have become alarmed by the presence of a photographer.
15. The writer questions the value of stalking animals because a photographer ________.
A. can cause the animals to behave aggressively towards people
B. may become too uncomfortable to take reasonable shots
C. may not be able to appreciate the situation fully
D. can easily become distracted from his task
D 13. B 14. D 15. C
根据第一段的句子“Yet the real burden of photography is mental, not physical; it is the feeling of needing to take photographs, because you have a camera you must use it.”(然而,摄影的真正负担是精神上的,而不是身体上的;它是一种需要拍照的感觉,因为你有相机,所以你就想着必须使用它。)
根据第二段的句子“In the first few days of camera-less travel, there are certainly moments of frustration at letting one great photograph after another go past, but having no camera, and thus being unable to take photographs, surprisingly soon stops the urge to do so.”(在没有相机的旅行的最初几天,你肯定会因为错过一张又一张的好照片而感到沮丧,但没有相机,因此无法拍照,令人惊讶的是,很快你就会停止拍照的冲动。)
根据第三段的句子“And thus unseen, I watched them play, free from concerns as to how close I could risk going with my camera without losing the very moment I sought to capture.”(因此,在看不见的情况下,我看着它们玩耍,不用担心我和它们的距离和因为带着相机而不想丢失我想要捕捉的那一刻。)和第四段的句子“Then comes the climax, the press of the button, the pull of the trigger, before more stalking, more photographs and, inevitably, the stalking too far which frightens the animals to flight.”(然后高潮来了,按下的按钮,触发快门,然后是更多的跟踪,拍更多的照片,不可避免的是,跟踪会吓跑动物。)
根据最好一段的句子“Exciting though stalking wild creatures can be, the photographer must obviously stalk as much out of sight as possible, thus being denied any chance of actually watching them.”(尽管跟踪野生动物令人激动,但摄影师必须尽可能在动物看不到的地方,这样就失去了仔细观察它们的机会。)和“There is time only for deciding the best way to take the photograph, before addressing more practical technicalities — how to keep the minibus’s wheel out of the shot of lions, or get enough depth of field so all the flamingos on the lake are in focus at once.”(先要处理好更多的技术细节——如何让狮子看不到你的面包车,或者是把车停到足够深处,以便拍到湖上所有的火烈鸟,然后只剩下时间决定用什么方法拍摄最好。)

“These are quite pricey devices and they are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
A Sleep Quality Varies from Person to Person
B. Sleep Apps Are Widely Used to Monitor Sleep
C. Young People Are Paying More Attention to Obesity
D. Lack of Sleep May Be Possibly Connected with Obesity
Exciting though stalking (跟踪) wild creatures can be the photographer must obviously stalk as much out of sight as possible, thus being denied any chance of actually watching them.
B rapidly lose the desire to take any photographs
C. come to consider previous trips as unsatisfactory
D. appreciate the excellence of other people’s photos

C. may not be able to appreciate the situation fully

Not knowing they were poor, the kids just thought their mother was strict in money management. Melissa was really glad about that.
Christmas was just around the corner. Although there wasn't budget for a lot of gifts, Melissa planned to please the kids with a family party.
