By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it's not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw(生的) vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene(番茄红素), the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohio State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people's health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.
28. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A. the way people eat vegetables is important B. people should eat more vegetables
C. eating vegetables is good for us D. how much vegetables one should eat
29. The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.
A. have the eyes problems B. have heart disease
C. hate eating tomatoes D. be in need of lycopene
30. The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.
A. the place where the vegetables are grown
B. the price at which the vegetable are sold
C. the way how the vegetables are prepared
D.the way how the vegetables are stored
31. From the last paragraph, we can know ________.
A.it’s better to cook the vegetables without salt
B. the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat
C.it’s better to cook vegetables with the fat
D. the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables
D
Do you find it difficult to put down your mobile phone
If yes, you’re not alone. These days, many people suffer from the stress of FOMO (fear of missing out). They reach for their mobile phones when they wake up in the morning, and for the rest of the day, they constantly scroll down (向下滚动) the timelines of their social media apps to get the latest updates.
Despite the convenience smartphones bring, many people struggle with their digital habits.
As Sameer Samat, US tech Company Google’s vice president of product management, said in his speech at the 2018 Google I/O developer conference on May 8, 70 percent of people don’t want to spend so much time on their phones.
This is why during the conference Google introduced an app called Dashboard for the new version (版本) of its Android operating system. This new app includes well-being functions that aim to help users manage the time they spend on their digital devices.
It all starts with a bird’s-eye view. Dashboard allows users to look at all the details of their phone habits. For example, a user can see how many times they’ve unlocked their phone and how many times they’ve checked their social media apps, as well as how much time they spend on each app every day.
Once the users see this information, they’ll be able to make some changes. With the App Timer function, users can set a time limit for how long they can use each app for every day. After they’ve hit the limit, they won’t be able to launch the app until the next day.
But even if users become more mindful of their usage, they’re still likely to be drawn in by notifications (通知). This is where the Shush feature comes in. It automatically (自动地) silences incoming calls and notifications when a user puts their phone face down.
If people truly want to make full use of their free time instead of losing hours using their smart phones, these new functions are just one way of doing that.
After all, who needs to use an app to stop you from using other apps when the easiest answer would be just to use your willpower
32. Who are the target users of Dashboard
A. People who know little about smartphones.
B. People who have trouble dealing with stress.
C. People who are slow at searching for things online.
D. People who wish to manage the time they spend on their smartphone.
33. What can Dashboard do
A. Lock the phone at a certain time. B. Limit some apps to certain users.
C. Limit the time certain apps can be used. D. Silence app notifications at night.
34. The underlined word “mindful” in Paragraph 8 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. serious. B. careful. C. prepared. D. creative.
35. What does the author think of Dashboard
A. It’s not very useful. B. It’s perfectly designed.
C. It should include more functions. D. It may be helpful to some people.

Yoghurt
It was a rough week. The price of oil increased a lot as the temperature dropped sharply in Maine. I had missed three days of work so my paycheck(工资) was going to be lower than normal. I was stressed. I shopped carefully, looking for every possible way to cut pennies so I could buy groceries and keep the house warm.
My eight-year-old son didn't understand when I told him we were struggling that week. He wanted a special kind of yoghurt, but I didn't have the extra three dollars to buy it for him. It was the kind of yoghurt with a cartoon kid riding a skateboard on the front of the box, and a mere two spoonfuls in each cup. It was the kind of product that wastes a parent's money .I felt guilty(罪过的as a parent when those big eyes looked at me with confusion, as if to say, “It's just yoghurt. What's the big deal ” So at last I bought him yoghurt.
On the way driving back from the grocery store, I noticed a homeless man holding a sign by the side of the road. My heart hurt, and I tried not to look at him. I watched people stay away from him on the street and walk by without even meeting his eyes. My son didn't seem to care much, either. I looked at the man closely then — bare hands grasping a piece of cardboard, a worn-out jacket. And there I was struggling because I had to buy oil and groceries. But I decided to help. I pulled over to the man and handed him a five-dollar bill.
Seeing this, my son became surprised.“Mum, why are you so generous to this stranger while so mean to me when I asked for a yoghurt ” I explained that if we were blind to the poor man’s situation he would be freezing. He didn’t have a home or food to eat after all. We could spare five dollars even if we were financially stressed. Finally, my son nodded and fixed his eyes on his yoghurt.
On that day, my son performed an act that most adults wouldn’t have done.
