Researchers have studied left-handedness for at least 150 years. However, what makes a person become left-handed is unknown, although there are many theories (理论) about it.
A recent UK study of unborn babies found that handedness might develop before their birth. About nine out of ten unborn babies preferred to put their right hand into their mouth. Another finding was that mothers who are over 40 at the time of a child’s birth are 128% more likely to have a left-handed baby than a woman in her twenties.
Since about 90% of people are right-handed, left-handed people do go through some difficulties. Because we write from left to right, it is hard for a left-handed person to write without smudging (把……弄模糊) the ink. What’s more, most tools such as scissors and kitchen knives are made for right-handed people. It can be dangerous for left-handed people to use them.
In the past, left-handed children were asked to use their right hand because people thought they were strange. Luckily, now most people alter their views of left-handers. Left-handed children are no longer looked down upon in school. Some shops sell products for left-handers, such as left-handed guitars and even a left-handed computer mouse. Since 1976, there has been an unusual day for left-handers. International Left-Handers Day is celebrated on August 13th every year. It draws people’s attention to the challenges left-handers face in a world full of right-handers. More and more people have realized left-handedness is nothing strange.

The Chinese historical film The Battle at Lake Changjin has earned more than 700 million yuan at the box office as of Saturday morning, the second day of China’s National Day holiday.
The Battle at Lake Changjin tells the story of the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea.
The 176-minute-long film is still meaningful after watching. The whole film is very shocking. It is based on the historical reality. Most of the soldiers in the battle were young people. The battle was full of difficulties. Those young volunteers had to climb high snow mountains. The temperature there was as low as minus 30 or 40 degrees. They wore thin clothes and walked dozens of kilometers every day. They didn’t have modern weapons, but they fought with American planes and tanks. They could only eat one potato a day and had a few left for the wounded. However, the American soldiers spent Christmas and ate roast chicken in their comfortable and warm position. Finally, our volunteers defeated the US Army.
We should learn from them the spirit of loving the motherland, not afraid of losing lives and moving forward bravely. We should also cherish the happy life now, because it is exchanged with their lives.

For several years, Maria Keller, a teenager from America, has been changing that fact. When she was 8 years old, Maria already loved reading. She also noticed that some of her classmates didn’t read as much as she did. She decided to change this.
With her mother’s help, Maria created Read Indeed. The group collects and gives out books to children in need. In the beginning, Maria set the goal to collect one million books by the time she was 18. It didn’t take long to reach that goal!
So far, she has collected over 2.4 million books and has shipped them to many countries around the world.
