Look up at the sky in the evening and you’re likely to see the blue sky of the afternoon being changed into a reddish-orange one across the sky. Why does the colour of the sky change at different times of the day The answer has to do with how the sun’s light and the earth’s atmosphere(大气层)have an effect on each other.
Light travels in waves(波状运动). Every colour we see is decided by the length of those waves. Red wavelengths are the longest, and as you go through the rainbow, the waves get shorter and shorter until you reach the blues and violets, which are the smallest.
As the sun’s light travels towards us, at first all it meets is space without any particles(微粒), such as dust and water droplets. But on earth, there are thousands of particles in the air which are hardly seen. The wavelengths that make it to the earth’s atmosphere hit these particles, which sends light bouncing(反弹) in many different directions.
But not all wavelengths bounce around to the same degree. Blue wavelengths, because of their smaller size, are scattered(散射) more easily and in many directions. Red wavelengths, which are larger, are scattered the least in the air.
During the day, when the light has the shortest distance to travel through the atmosphere, what we end up seeing are the blue waves that have been scattered all across the sky. At the day’s end, though, the light has to travel through much more of the atmosphere, and those short, blue light waves have a hard time getting past all particles. They mostly get scattered away before they ever reach us. The result is that red sky we see at sunset, since longer red wavelengths are still able to pass through the atmosphere.
So when you see a red sky at dusk, just remember that it’s actually the last remaining colour of the whole rainbow.
36. According to the article, the sky change its colour because ______.
A. the time changes every day
B. the weather is different every day
C. the particles in the atmosphere change the wavelengths of lights
D. the sun’s light and the earth’s atmosphere influence each other

A. Red. B. Orange. C. Blue. D. Violet.
38. Why does the sky look blue during the day
A. Because light meets the dust and water droplets.
B. Because the blue wavelengths scattered all across the sky.
C. Because particles sends light bouncing in different directions.
D. Because the blue light waves have a hard time getting past all particles.
39. When you see a red sky at dusk, it means ______.

Another rich man in Venice was Shylock. He became rich by lending money to others and making them pay interest. While Antonio thought it wrong to make people pay interest. He said the rich should help the poor. Shylock was very angry about this because many people went to borrow money from Antonio instead of borrowing from him. This meant that Shylock earned less money.
When Bassanio visited Shylock, he asked Shylock to lend him three thousand gold coins and said he would pay it back in three months. “How do I know you can pay it back ” asked Shylock. “My friend Antonio will help me. If I do not pay you in three months, he will do it for me,” Bassanio said. Shylock turned to smile. Perhaps this would be a chance.
So Shylock went to visit Antonio at once. When seeing him, Shylock couldn’t help thinking how much he hated him. However, he did not show his hatred. He tried to be friendly. “It’s three thousand gold coins for three months, isn’t it ” Antonio and Bassanio agreed. “What interest will you pay ” Shylock asked. Before long, Antonio and Shylock were arguing about interest. Antonio called Shylock some bad names. Bassanio was worried and stopped Antonio.
Antonio said sorry to Shylock. “If you lend us this money,” pleased Antonio, “I will not call you bad names.”
Shylock pretended to be surprised. “Come with me to the judge,” said Shylock, “so that he can write the contract. I will lend you the money for three months. You will pay no interest. Just for fun, however, let’s agree that if you do not pay me on time, you will give me one pound of your flesh from wherever I choose to take it!”
