On Douyin, a popular short-video app, Xie surprised many internet users by using a knife to quickly cut bamboo into pieces of the same width. He said it took 46 days to finish his mini bamboo space station. He used more than 12 kinds of local bamboo to show the beauty of the space station. Xie began to learn bamboo weaving when he was a teenager. “l found that bamboo weaving is interesting. With a rich imagination, you can almost make anything,” he said. In 2006, he started to learn bamboo weaving from a master in Sichuan Province. As his parents didn’t support him, he decided to leave home and take a train on his first long-distance journey alone. At first, it took him seven hours to work out how to weave a small national flag of China. After years of hard work, in February 2022, Xie realized his dream. He successfully turned the bamboo weaving of Wuyi Mountain into a provincial intangible cultural heritage. It is not easy for Xie to pass on the art, but he is trying his best. In 2018, he set up a museum of bamboo weaving. In it visitors can watch and take photos of his works.
